Jeff Lorber and George Duke play Tune 88 at NAMM Show 2007 Bass :Brian Bromberg Drums : Sergio Gonzalez Sax :Eric Marienthal Visit www.jefflorberfansite.com/
That man has got the most nimble fingers I've ever seen! And I was wondering who that sax player was and found out it was Eric Marienthal. He stole my heart with his solo on Michael Frank's "The Lady Wants to Know." Yet another killer ensemble.
Those Rhodes MK7’s had a lot of issues but you CAN’T TELL by the way those two “masters” are playing! Funk @ it’s finest! My man BB holding that bass down along with the drummer and Eric M’s sax? Oh hell yeah! Rest In Peace, George. We miss you!😌🎹🎶❤️👍🏾
JL uses his technical ability right away to express his speed, dirty sound that is very bluesy, predictable phrasing, very passionate and delivers a rollercoaster ride...... GD relaxes, lays back, builds his solo slower, tells the story with a awesome Build point, uses Harmony to complement the solo lines, some would consider his solo more meaningful or Tastier because he seems to always leave "SPACE" he lets his solos breath...
Well put. I really really really didn’t want my mind thinking what you said because it’s art not military science. Still, GD layered more dimensions there( harmony, rhythm, space, dynamic modulation). I still like JL for his infectious energy. Reminds me of what Jimmy Heath once said about, beyond a certain level of playing, needing to hear players side by side to truly compare. No winners or losers. Just differences.
You’re spot on! The human ear and brain need space to absorb. Sir George was and is the master, with his humility, making even the listener feel cooler and funkier for the experience!!!
@@AllIn1Studio thanks for the reply, I sense you are enlightened, you are melodically and harmonically sensitive, your comments are musically mature, "SPACE" has always been the final frontier - James Kirk . . . . are you on the west coast ? where are you ? let connect and talk . . .
Well, I am a keyboard piano player and have a ‘73 suitcase Rhodes and sat in with George at Catalina Bar & Grill with Christian McBride bass John Roberts drms….other than that I’m still learning! I am so grateful I got to get to live in LA and hang with the cool cats and record with some of theeee best in the biz. England wasn’t doing it for me. So….blessings to you
George Duke just cracks me up. I love to watch and hear him in these videos. He is having SO much fun and has that sly grin on his face. Watch him with Billy Cobham on some of those videos. I like Jeff Lorber very much, too, but look at George. He is havin a blast and seems like he always does. There's a reason why so many artists want to work with George Duke. He is an unbelievable talent.
Guys, please stop threading a music like a contest! "Duke wins...Jeff is better"????? This is not a race please! Two of the best piano players in the world :) Love It!
Bor4enceto Recently we had some jerk who played a mean sax say online: F**k Wayne Shorter, then as good as this jerk was he faded into obscurity. These comparing f**kheads don't get the spirit of jazz so like fleas at a picnic they have to be tolerated.
Marchaund I love Shorter big composition influence for me but hey in jazz everyone fades away and doesn't get the recognition they deserve. There never were any good old days for Jazz. Look in any large town you can find truly world class cats teaching at the community college and/or hosting jam sessions playing studio gigs teaching privately etc. You don't know their names.
Oh yes, soulful goodness, my two favorite keyboard players! Thanks Jeff and George for the soundtrack to my life, and RIP Maestro George, your music and soul live on.
WoW! No words can describe this. Two legends (my personal fav keyboardist) Jeff and George together playing the same identical keyboards grooving.... Wow.... In Zulu we say zahamba izinsizwa kwasala izibongo
Not much of a fan of bass solos (and I'm a bass player), but if you're gonna give the bass a solo, at least lay back and don't step all over it, bit surprised by this from such great players. Fabulous playing as always Brian. Love you George RIP.
Got to see Jeff live in Akron Ohio with Everett Harp and Chuck Loeb Fantastic, Masters of their instruments and FUNK! Ilearned a lot just being there been playing this great stuff ever since. Thanks Jeff,Everret, Chuck.
Jeff Lorber 'predictable phrasing' and 'passionate' expression (I love that!) make him a icon in jazz pop smooth, an absolute winner of hearts to jazz nowadays, Jeff brings jazz to the masses!! and while I love and enjoy different jazz pianist styles, Jeff is stone grabbed in a honor place in my listening experience. And Gorge Duke! Another great jazz pop titan! definitely a keyboard and synthesizer innovator whom is a incredible piano player, also important of my influences spectrum.
I will tell you what. It's not about showmanship or comp, but the shit GD puts down, abstract harmonically, starting at 4:05 is the real shit. It's beyond us all and so, so inspiring and intellectual in linking to emotional tension and release. Too much. Jeff and George are up there on the top.
Watching this again for like the 20th time, GD is a powerhouse, who can park the notes perfectly across the scale. The tune gains so much when he starts up. The third sentence in your comment, starting with "It's beyond" is a masterpiece. If you are not a creator of music, words or other.... You should be.
George coming from a good friend and piano player downunder, Howlin' Bob Howlett, grew up with George. The mod's he did to his instruments were a big part of his able to achieve such wonderful innovation. I'll see if I can remember what they were. Filter pedals for the Arp. And something for the Rhodes.
@otaama I am humbled every time I hear a master improviser like GD and JL. The result is normally a well played solo but GD and JL approach the story from a very different perspective. I like the space, taste and harmonic structure that GD uses, verse Speed that JL uses. I am learning from guys like you all the time, trying to improve my craft. Having played the piano for over 30 years, I can tell you it is still a lot of work. Thanks for teaching me. Professor of Music/WJU Victor Bright
Great musicians making great music! Love the beat, smooth funk in the groove, been out of music for awhile...this moved me to get back into it now! ...thanks for uploading
My goodness that Rhodes!!! This was an epic moment with two my favorite keyboard heros. Miss George.
George IT is my favorites musician funky
Absolutely brilliant! God bless George, long live Jeff.
You got some serious musicians on this date. I'm not going to say whose better on keys, because I love them both.
This is what I love about Jazz and Fusion no matter when you listen to it it is still as good as the 1st time... Brilliant stuff.
So true, it always feels like the 1st time... U always pick up some new in the song all the time
The best jazz musician 👍👍👍
Excellent band, and of course George!
The best keyboard 🎹 in the world played by two of the greatest to ever play. Miss you George!💖
Tak 👍👍👍
Lots of my favorite players here. Brian Bromberg really dropped the anchor. Great groove.
George Duke was amazing and still lives on.
Anyone noticed Brian Bromberg. Slappin!
Jeff Lorber 🎹👍to geniusze funky jazzu brawo , super pamiatkowy występ z George Duke i innymi muzykami 🎶🎹👏👏👏👏
Still incredible in 2022!
That man has got the most nimble fingers I've ever seen! And I was wondering who that sax player was and found out it was Eric Marienthal. He stole my heart with his solo on Michael Frank's "The Lady Wants to Know." Yet another killer ensemble.
Gone but never to be forgotten! RIP George Duke!!
JEFF LORBER IS BAD TO THE BONE. TOTALLY AWESOME. *** THE JAZZ PIANO KINGPIN ***
you always know something good is going to happen when the keyboardist plays an intro like this....
George will be missed. A true American music icon.

I'm a sax player and naturally love Marienthal but for some reason the thing that stick out for me is Bromberg's awesome sound and playing.
Incredible I’m so damn happy to have seen George Duke and Jeff Lorber play with there on individual groups ❤️❤️
George Duke just cracks me up. I love to watch and hear him in these videos. He is having SO much fun and has that sly grin on his face. Watch him with Billy Cobham on some of those videos. Absolutely!
Jeff with George, need I say more.
It doesn't get any better than this. I miss George but so thankful for his music.

Well it is Lorber's song after all, but he just ain't as funky as George that's for sure. George had soul and funk, Jeff not so much.
Jeff wrote it. Give Duke props for learning the form and joining the conversation. Both are the best hands down.
From a guy that has worked with both...yes...both incredible monsters!
Jeff brought the fusion George brought the dukey stick and I just enjoyed it. Two of my heroes musically. Love that about jazz that this can happen.
Oh yes, soulful goodness, my two favorite keyboard players! Thanks Jeff and George for the soundtrack to my life, and RIP Maestro George, your music and soul live on.
J& G, the best, ever !!!! 20 fingers of gold...
Bromberge is a master among masters, the bassman of all bassist
Two keyboard masters, each on a Rhodes. With ultra talented musicians. I can't finish my thought, it sounds so damn good.
George played with Zappa!! "Jazz is not dead it just smells funny." FZ

WoW! No words can describe this. Two legends (my personal fav keyboardist) Jeff and George together playing the same identical keyboards grooving.... Wow....

Oh yeah, and much respect to the drummer. Holding it down tastefully and keeping a great pocket.
The perfect snare tone for Live settings 👌

Man it's hard to believe George Duke is gone . Well I was hit with that DUKEY stick in my life time , COOL!!
No one plays two handed licks like the Duke did. Amazing!
Greatly missed - George Duke !

Una fiesta.

I was lost for words seeing this. Thx for your comment! I play bass, too, and love solos by any instrument if they are played with soul and talent 😁
Got to see Jeff live in Akron Ohio with Everett Harp and Chuck Loeb Fantastic, Masters of their instruments and FUNK! Ilearned a lot just being there been playing this great stuff ever since. Thanks Jeff,Everret, Chuck.

Man, that was great!!!
Lorber's great.... he is... but I need the space that Mr. Duke always understood!
Duke: Imma take my time here
Duke came in from behind and blew your mind!
The new Rhodes !!! What a beauty, played by a real Maestro!!
Jeff Lorber, a true master of Fusion.
...most critics point the beginning of fusion with Jeff Lorber’s “The Samba”...
Jeff is sooo under celebrated and yet sooooo brilliant...
How can it get better than this!
GD & JL
George Duke was a music maker!
I could hear Hiram Bullock (RIP) on this tune, killin' it!
...Simply, WOW!
Fun song to play in a band...
