Rome asserting dominance: taking 2 islands they weren’t supposed to, and changing reparations from 88 billion usd within 20 years to 128 billion in 10.
14:47 I think they removed them because of how badly they effected the seaworthiness of the ships, I mean they did lose two massive fleets in storms where that might have been a factor
They removed them because of stability. And carthage isnt stupid they learned to counter that.
Blows my mind how everyone let's tomatoes in ancient times go by without saying anything 🤣
13:00 one crazy thing I have looked into is the longest sieges in history, the top two 21 years (Candia) and 26 (Ceuta) really show how much humans can just say fuq it and keep going and pouring resources into fighting over one city.
He ain't no idiot he was a gigachad
10:50 you think that is bad, the Mongol invasion of Japan which had about 140,000 men on about 4,400 ships got obliterated in typhoons, most of those that survived got ganked by the Samurai on the coast. It was such a miracle that it was declared that it was "Divine Wind" or Kamikaze which... well became more famous for later use
If I recall correctly, the Japanese actually threw the invasion back into the sea first and the storm caught it on the way back to the Asian mainland.
@@aze94 yes, that is how it happened
Romans removed corvus because Carthaginians developed a tactic against it, so it was too troublesome to have them on ships. It was slowing them down and shitting with the balance
The corvus had a lot of drawbacks. In rough waves the thing was unusable, and tended to tip ships in heavy wind. Some believe many of the ships that were lost in the storms only sunk because of the corvus. Either way Rome felt they improved their combat prowess enough, and switched to a new weapon not mentioned here.
21:59 its Hanibal Ba.. Ba(r)ka!
Maybe they removed the Corvus from their ships, because that was the reason they tipped over so much during storms?
Just speculating btw
Who knew putting cruel terms to a losing nation would cause it to rebel... -glares at the Treaty of Versailles-
Yes I woke up and watched the first part now I see there'd a second one also can't wait for you to watch OS WW1
9:50 sounds like the Roman Dunkirk
Soon, we see him in 6 Months
Im not sure if this is true, but maybe it was the corvus that made them lose so much in those storms, so thats why they removed them.
6:34 hated Greeks? I know they competed with the Greeks on Sicily but they were of Greek decent through the Phoenicians
0:32 if you think 20,000 a lot then you should see waht they did to the gauls 1 million were kileld and another million enslaved
