At some point the Spanish would dispute the French ownership, and then the British would probably intervene, meanwhile the US settlers would already be occupying it. So probably some form of the Spanish/Mexican- American war would happen in an alternate timeline, but with the French and British getting involved maybe.

James K Polk was the 11th US president. He was one of the more successful presidents since he accomplished all of his goals before leaving office. However Polk isn't well know today since he only served 1 term (by choice) and then died a few months after his presidency ended. He still has the record for quickest death after leaving office by a president. During his presidency he was the one who annexed Texas and went to war with Mexico which resulted in acquiring Texas and most of what is now southwest United States.

I’ve found that America was kind of an asshole in a lot of ways in the early stages of it’s life. As an American, I would’ve like a less ginormous America. If colonial interests stayed in each nation’s hands, we could have canada with the oregon territory, Mexico with its original borders (and probably a much more stable country) and even a French breakaway nation in the Louisiana territory, with America only ever controlling the appalachien mountains. We’d probably be called the United States of Appalachia or something, and while we’d be much less powerful on a global scale (honestly good, I hate the idea of major powers on the scale they are today) and things would be far more interesting.
