The only problems I had with this laser was the wire management! Once I add the 1/4" Split Wire Loom Tubing to control them, this will be a perfect machine! The air assist was just as good as the Atzer AA. Click on Show More for links!
Louisa I solved the problem with wire management by over tie wrapping (plastic tie wraps can squeeze the air hose) the Gantry cables and air hose and placing the machine close enough to the table's edge so that the Y cables droop down out of the way. I did have a problem with erratic engrave till I found the gantry belt left loose from the factory tightened it and now it works perfect. I got the two trees 500 X 500 Honey comb bed that was too large it was hit by the gantry used shims to raise the engraver to clear the bed. I did enjoy wealth of knowledge you gave, Thank you
Half a year ago I upgraded from an A5 with the M50 laser to this one and I am realy very happy with it. I allready saved a lot of wood because of the limit switches. It is realy easy to continue cutting after you made a misstake and stopped the laser. Just zero the machine and it is spot on again after restarting. I use this laser untill max 60% because I had the impression that my M50 was loosing a lot of power because of allways running at 100%. In the past half year I did not mention any power loss on this laser. The cable management I resolved by attaching the cables to my enclosure and had no issue with it till now. Most of my work is 4mm oak, which I cut with 300 speed and 50% power in 1 pass.
I purchased an A20 from Amazon, in July, it is my first laser. I agree with everything you have presented. I also bought the extension bed from them directly which gives me an awesome 450mmX900mm work area. I know it took you 1/2 hr. to assemble. It took me 1 1/2 hrs. Documentation was extremely poor. The various youtube videos saved me. The cable with the extension bed was a nightmare so I purchased a drag chain for the y axis. Mine must be an older version with a weaker air pump, it is cylindrical rather than square. The head would not slide up and down easily and needed some filing to get rid of a couple of burrs. I had alot of difficulty with consistent cutting. If I was cutting several pieces in one run some of them would cut clean others would not. I went back and forth with factory support, very annoying since it take 24 hrs to get a reply. Finally they said I needed to return the head to the store, which I think is also in china. Then there was a one week Chinese holiday and finally they got around to agreeing to replace the head. The new head works great. The bottom line is it took 5-6 weeks to resolve the problem. The good sign is they seem to be a company willing to stand behind their product. If you need to elevate it to use a roller I had to shorten the lockdown screw for the head because periodically it would not home because the screw would hit the x axis rail. It has some serious power. I have had good luck cutting 3/4 inch thick pine. It will almost do it in one pass but catches fire. So finally I got smart and use 4-6 passes at 150/95. A few weeks later, amazon had the newer model with the larger air pump and the remote hand screen device that really is not needed. I use lightburn, the software, and the wifi app are worthless for any serious work. Where I live I have to have wifi for my phone to work. So if I was connected to the laser, my phone had to be disconnected. I have an air compressor in my shop with a regulator. I run the air line from the regulator to a gas regulator to easily control a slower air flow. It works great. Down side is the compressor noise.
Good video and also very well explained only one thing is missing !!! PLEASE WHERE do you get such material tests from??? You linked a million things but not them ;(
Another great video Rich, I'm really looking forward to the battle of the 20 watts video to see where my xTool 20 comes in. I really look forward to all your videos. The test runs are really teaching me about the machine and all the different materials I use. Thanks again,
Great review. I missed Black Friday (dragging my feet) on choosing one. Now just waiting for boxing day to buy :) Cheers and thanks for the information. very helpful. :)
Great video, subscribed to your channel because of it! So I have a CNC machine that I added a 7w laser to (Sienci Brand). Right off the start it's not enough to do what I really want to do....CUT. Even with 3mm ply I'm having tremendous troubles cutting with it. Did a search and found your video on this Atomstack x20! My biggest question is that the air assist they have on their website is 15-30 L/min. Will that be enough to cut cleanly up to 1/4" ply in 1-2 passes? For the price listed on their website it seems like a great deal, in comparison to what I have now. Thank you for your help and again, great video.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thank you. The unit I have has AA but not a forced air one. Just an attached fan. That might be why I’m having issues. Thank you.
I've watched 10 videos and yours is the best. The cable management critique is candid and helpful. I'm going to use your ground wire idea. Candid recommendation to not place the app device covering the vent. Smart. There is an add-on where you can place the cabling into a wheel-chain covering that I might consider buying. Can you demo a project where I want to create a plaque that has a piano shape cut-out. My wife is a piano teacher and she wants to build a custom plaque that has her name, student name, year of recital. It's going to stand up vertical by sitting in a groove cut on the base board. thank you ahead of time. Your sample cuts/engravings shows your expertise in the laser craft. I learned so much. I plan on combining my hobby with kumiko projects and laser engraving when I make my kumiko panels.

Hi Rich, looking forward to the battle of the 20 watts video. Thanks for the review. I totally agree about the cables, I have the X20 pro and have the same problem. Merry Christmas to you and the family from the Philippines!
Great review Rich! I have the AS S20Pro and have had similar results in cutting & engraving. It does burn hot though, requiring frequent laser head cleaning. I've just received the extension package for it because I want to do some longer engravings. But, I'd still love to win this. Thanks for all your help!
Nice review again. A drag chain for the wiring should be standard these days on the newest diode laser engraver/cutter; I suspect the next new feature in 2023 for these machines will be a motorised z axis.
Good video Rich. I just bought a Atomstack 20 130 W. laser. What is your best video that you have done using Lightburn. Im an old guy and need a lot of help as I dont understand a lot of the commands in lightburn and knowing where to put the wood on the base so it gets set up for printing. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.
Another great review Rich! I agree that the air assist on this unit is one of the better ones I've had come with a laser. I really wish they used silicone wire on these machines. It would make cable management so much easier if those wires were a bit more flexible.
Another great video! That air assist really does seem nice and its only $100 at the big A right now cause they have a $30 coupon! I never thought about using that split wire loom tubing stuff to fix the cable problems. My Creality Falcon 10w has the same problem with that cable on the side dragging around and it will mess up the burn/cut if it gets against something. I was going to post about it in the forums but no I don't have to LOL
Yeah, the wire loom is necessary on a lot of machines! I wish they would just use it at the factory! What could it cost in China to outfit one of these machines? Twenty cents?
I have the atomstack a20 and I put the track system on mine as well as 3d printed some better legs with add on extensions for legs. much better than what comes with the machine
On the Atomstack A20 Pro, do you have the settings to cut through 3/16 cork board? I have tried several settings and have not been successful to cut through.
Idk if you’ve made a video or chatted about this but it be cool to know what diode lasers don’t need to be screwed in place. My Ortur lmp2 has to be unless I run it slower or it skids back and forth. I’ve heard the lm3 from Ortur doesn’t need to be bolted down. Maybe I’m just lazy but I like quick setups for customers and screwing it down takes a bit.
Another very thorough review! Thank you for these and the teaching videos that you do. I always look for them. God Bless. I can't wait to get a 20 watt lazer for the cutting power. I have the first xtool D1 model 10 watt. It has great detail but is not good for cutting.
Rich, great review! I am new to lasers and just got the X20 pro. I have not even been close to the proper power/speed settings. I’ve been trying to tweak the settings from the other libraries. Will you be adding an A20/X20 materials library to the forum?
Great video. I am a newbie and have this unit. I am still getting some black char on my cuts. Curious how high or low you set the air assist? I think I may be going to slow also.
No one I have found, has the original sd card files, or a video about what exactly is on them, anywhere. Mine is missing (before I can even test it). A video, with a link to that file, might do well. Just a thought.
CraftDaddy here again! So looked at this machine and the a70…. Make catch beef from this but need to know… either one of these x20 pro, a70 or the blue china co2 with separate chiller and rotor chuck for 2499.00… opinion? Thanks bro
This was a good machine in it's time, today I wouldn't recommend it. The A70, while others like it, it never made my review list because of eccentric nut design issues which ruined the quality of the engravings. The only lasers I personally recommend are the LaserMATIC by Roly Automation, and the RM Co2 Laser. Links to both are in my most recent video descriptions. The generic "blue" lasers you see on Amazon and eBay are total garbage, Monport and OMTech included. It costs more than $2499 in parts to build a quality Co2.

Rich, the scale on the left should be zero at the center of the gantry not the laser head. But it is still not close to being correct and you can move the zero switches, to adjust as needed anyway.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy you're right and I am not sure what you would use it for anyway. I have the A10 and was never sure why you would use those anyway. Have the laser make a grid and use the grid. That was a good review though. Your shootout will be interesting and most likely me what it use to see my upgrade path will be. Thanks again.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy i purchased the p20 after your review and then later noticed so many simalarities in the gantry, display, head etc a comparison of the two and how they differ and relate would be awesome!
My a20 doesn't seem to making enough power? Is there a secret setting in firmware? My A20 laser is cutting but I'm not getting your results, it's like some of the lasers aren't on. it take 3mm/s at 100 2 passes to cut 1/8" ply.
Can someone help I received my new A20 a week ago upgraded from my A10 pro the problem is every engraving is slightly cut off on the bottom line, also when I run the material test in lightburn it barely cut through 3 mm plywood thanks in advance for your help
hello Rich, thankyou for the review. I own an x20pro. I found through testing and with the preview time that something was not quite right once you get above 6000 mm/min. I wrote atomstack about this as I noticed in the max speed settings that they are capped at 6000. they replied that the machine can go to 12000 but it is not recommended which seemed strange since they advertise it as capable of 12000mm/min. did you notice this or have to change the settings to get 12000? or do they consider it 6000 per axis which would be 12000 if x and y are moving simultaneously
I purchased this model, and cannot get it to cut through 6mm plywood. I’m running lightburn 10mm min 100 percent power and still no through cut. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I am using the included tool to focus, should I be focusing it differently? I just pulled it out of the box so I doubt the lense is dirty
Machine zero and Saved positions: I have a 'laser start position' set at 0,67 corresponding with 0,0 on the scale. Machine zero position is 0 on the x but due to it smacks hard on the Y end stop it will fluctuate and get an Y zero-ish position. When you have the extension upgrade you can easily compensate the 67mm on the Y axis and bring the Y max to 917mm. Anyhow I keep it at 867mm because I precut wood panels to 410mm and 800mm. (For the Imperialists...get a life 😛)
I have the x20 and I'm not getting near the cutting results your getting at 300 it will only cut through baltic birch ply 3mm at 100% power. what am I doing wrong.
@@MichaelKlein-je4wc you probably need to perform a focus ramp test. I suspect your focus block doesn't match your focal point. Do you drop the focus point half way into your workpiece? For example, 1.5mm below the surface of your 3mm ply. Are you using air assist when cutting?
Such a shame about the cable management on this, having said that it's not the only guilty diode laser in that respect. My old Ortur LM2 is a decent machine but has the same issue, I use an elastic "bungee" cord to suspend my x axis and air tube which works ok but the y axis often gets trapped when the machine is homing.
Just going to comment on your initial start of the review... Your observation of the markings on the x and y are incorrect... If you look under the left pulley between the 2 wheels, you will see there is a pointer indicating the measuring of where you're laser is in relation to the software 0,0 would be the bottom left, and that's where the laser sits when it hits the homing sensor. It is poorly visible but it is correct when homed to zero. Now if you're argument is that you're aligning the physical laser to the number zero then yes the markings AND the pointer should be moved to reflect this.
The idea of the 0/0 position and the measurements on the rails (in my mind) is that it should mimic the software work grid. So if I send my laser to 0/0 and fire it, it should mark at 0/0 Rudy. I can't imagine what else you could use the measurements for.
Seriously Shane? I'm not affiliated with Atezr, I just have a discount code from them and a affiliate *link,* just like all of the other lasers I review, and all the other UA-camrs review. And my videos are on all of the manufacturer websites who I do reviews for; that's how it works. My videos are probably the only ones you'll find that have no fluff and no bias! Oh, and by the way, I will NOT be choosing a winner of the showdown! You will get to decide! The video will be a pure comparison of engraving and cutting the *exact same files.*
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy If that's the case then I stand corrected and I look forward to the showdown. I'm ready to pull the trigger on one of the 20w lasers and I'm leaning towards the Atomstack because of the bed extension option. I may wait for your comparison video before I decide. Also, thanks for the clarification regarding whether or not you're affiliated with Atezr.
Um... you may want to wait Shane! The first 36W laser is on the way from Atezr and Atomstack has one in development! The 20W battle will be Comgrow vs xTool vs Atomstack vs Atezr. But I also see a battle of the 36W on the way!
Warning, Have used this machine for 6 months and it is showing all the signs of being worthless. Air Assist broke and no longer puts out air even though it runs. Lens cover has burn marks on it and I can't get replacements for them because they are out of stock and have been told it will be months until I can get them. Now the laser will not even cut through 3mm Baltic Birch ply even at 100mm/m and 100%. Can't get any help from support even though it is well within the warranty period. Deal with this company at your own risk. They are without integrity. Had an Ortur before this and when I had issues, they were great about reaching out and helping me out. No such luck with this company. Really regret wasting my money on it.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I have tried this, the problem is likely the lens but it is because it is pitted and needs to be replaced. One of the Atomstack resellers actually sells them in packs of three but have been told it will be a month before they get them in stock and then a slow boat from China (literally) to get here. Thinking about switching to Comgrow. It seems like several folks I follow (you included) use their products pretty heavily. Have you ever had to deal with their support? What are they like? I am willing to take a chance on a product if I know support is decent.
The way a company supports me and and end user can be vastly different Jack. I can tell you that when it comes to issues, I have not heard a single complaint about either Comgrow or Ortur on tech support.

Can you tell how we can sign up with you for a lesson on lightburn
I'm taking a sabbatical from the remote sessions right now Dax.
I tried cutting 6mm ply wood and i could only cut right through with 3 passes, on 100% and 200 speed. What am i doing wrong?
Likely a focus issue. Search my channel for the word RAMP. If you run a ramp test, you'll find the perfect focus.
Day 2 of commenting , and giving myself a better chance of winning the Dec. Raffle. 🤗 Always helpful videos Rich!
Commenting doesn't increase your chances of winning Cathy! You have to go to the raffle page and enter!
I have tge A5 pro and really like it for engraving. Not so much for cutting. Been eyeballing.
Thanks for watching Keith! Go for it!
is the atom stack a20 and the atezr p20 the same machine they look almost identical
No Tyler, not even close.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy i purchased the p20 after your review and then later noticed so many simalarities in the gantry, display, head etc a comparison of the two and how they differ and relate would be awesome!
the real 0/0 is 0/0 @ 3:32 -there are little arrows pointing to that scale on the x/y axis, the markings are usefull
I know what you mean, the metal arrows inside the frames. Mine are off.
OK, I'm a newbie. What is LAF? I was able to get rotary at Newegg for $65.
Line after fill.
My a20 doesn't seem to making enough power? Is there a secret setting in firmware? My A20 laser is cutting but I'm not getting your results, it's like some of the lasers aren't on. it take 3mm/s at 100 2 passes to cut 1/8" ply.
Check the Device Settings and make sure your S-value max is set to 1000.
Excellent
👍👍👍👍👍

Looks like it is a good laser
I think so Harold!
Can someone help I received my new A20 a week ago upgraded from my A10 pro the problem is every engraving is slightly cut off on the bottom line, also when I run the material test in lightburn it barely cut through 3 mm plywood thanks in advance for your help
Have you contacted Atomstack? It's hard to diagnose a problem in a YT comment. Maybe your focus if wrong.
hello Rich, thankyou for the review.
The A20 came set at 12,000 mm/min.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy interesting. Thankyou
Hi Rich I applied your coupon for the monport k-40 package laser/lightburn/chiller and it said it couldn't be used?
The coupon code can't be used with accessories Greg. They said laser machines only. You have to make 2 orders to use the coupon.
Definitely a laser I’d like to get. Maybe they’ll see your review and fix there wire management.
They'll see it, but I doubt they'll change it. It would be nice...
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I’ll wait for your 20W face off in January. lol
I purchased this model, and cannot get it to cut through 6mm plywood. I’m running lightburn 10mm min 100 percent power and still no through cut. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?
Yup, you don't have it focused properly or the lens is dirty. This laser blasts through 6mm wood at 360 mm/min.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I am using the included tool to focus, should I be focusing it differently? I just pulled it out of the box so I doubt the lense is dirty
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy figured it out. My s value in lightburn was at 225 I changed it to 1000 and now it’s blasting through it with no problem
(For the Imperialists...get a life 😛)
With any mod, you usually have to have a workaround or two...
Thanks for the video. If you find an affiliate link to a crack ruler on Amazon I will buy it.
I do, but they're not cheap! amzn.to/3K1Mk4m
I have the x20 and I'm not getting near the cutting results your getting at 300 it will only cut through baltic birch ply 3mm at 100% power. what am I doing wrong.
Are you in mm/min or mm/sec? I'm in mm/min. If you are, then it's either a focus issue or a dirty lens.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy no I'm in mm/min. I'll clean the lens again. I am using the included spacer for focus.
@@MichaelKlein-je4wc you probably need to perform a focus ramp test. I suspect your focus block doesn't match your focal point. Do you drop the focus point half way into your workpiece? For example, 1.5mm below the surface of your 3mm ply. Are you using air assist when cutting?
@@hefalump56 I'm not sure about the focus and yes I use the air assist.
The wire loom is the solution Malcolm.
Atezr will win the showdown because he's affiliated with Atezr. His photo is even on their website. I'd like to see some non biased reviews.
Sorry to hear this. Try cleaning your lens; that's probably why it isn't cutting.
I never win, maybe I will get lucky. I’m Txman on your web site 😎
Good luck!
