    Speculating is always a gamble. I stay away from the modern cards. More times than not you will get burned. Great advice to not get caught up in all the hype. All the free money during the pandemic helped drive the card prices up. Your 1960 Clemente, Killebrew, Yastrzemski and Mantle cards are amazing!! Great eye appeal!! Thanks for sharing!! Enjoy your channel!!

    Thanks Billy your preaching to the choir on this video. Those 1960 baseball cards are awesome. I was trying to build a lower grade HOF. 1960 baseball card run and paid 130$ for what I thought was a 6/7 Bob Gibson and a 4/5 Stan Musial and struck out from a card show. So with SGC. grading,shpng. and insurance I paid about 170$. The Gibson came back a 4.5 and the Musial came back a 2? I could have got better ones from ebay for the same money. I still can`t see what`s wrong with the Musial. but I still like them alot. Im a Red`s fan but always thought the Cardinals were the Yankees of the NL. quality and class. I know about how you feel about Whitey because it`s probably the same way I feel about Sparky the world is and was just a better place because of those men. I think and thank GOD for The 75/76 Big Red Machine and that wire to wire 1990 Reds team that was kinda like the 80`s Cardinals just a bunch of really good players. I recently got a psa4, autograph 10 of Bobby Richardson 1960. I think only player to be WS. MvP. on a losing team.I think 7xas. + 5x gold glove.Been reading and studying about Bobby what a great man was one of Mickey`s best friends and gave his eulogy. I was wondering or did I miss it/ Do you like autographs on your 1960 set building cards? Peace Jim.

    • @billyballgamesportscards
      @billyballgamesportscards  4 місяці тому +1

      Hey Jim. Thanks for watching and commenting. It's definitely a gamble buying vintage cards ungraded! Whitey and Sparky is a pretty good comparison but I think Sparky had a better career as a manager. You're right, though they were both class acts. Bobby Richardson was an amazing player who's kind of been forgotten about. I like autographs and have some, but I'm building my set without autographs. Thanks again. I hope you enjoyed the video.

    I went to the Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum about an hour and a half after the news of Herzog’s passing. They already had the flowers on his plaque. I was born in ‘85. I firmly believe he made me the fan I am today. He traded for Ozzie, my favorite player. I am a fan who loves defense. If Ozzie isn’t a Cardinal, if Whitey Ball isn’t a thing, etc, would I be the fan I am? I don’t know. I met Herzog for the only time in 2012, and he was great. The news wasn’t surprising, but definitely upsetting.

      I've never been to the Cardinals HOF. I need to go sometime. Whitey definitely made some amazing moves to build the groundwork for what those teams would become. It's weird to think about how much different things would be for the Cardinals without him. I'm pretty sure I'd have still been a Cardinals fan as it seems to be in my blood from both sides of my parents' family. It's definitely interesting to think about. I never met him. Like I said, I wish I had gotten his autograph at the show.

      @@billyballgamesportscards I gave his autograph to my dad. Meeting him was my memory. One of his most unheralded moves was bringing Red Schoendienst back to the organization. For vintage cards with tremendous high eye appeal, I would suggest you value it .5 to 1 full grade higher. That approach is pretty normal.
    If the higher eye appeal vintage card is really popular & less supply than the norm (e.g. ‘52 Topps Mantle, ‘49 Leaf & ‘50 Bowman J. Robinson, ‘55 & ‘68 3-D Clemente, 68 OPC & Venezuelan Ryan, etc… ), people can value it .5 to 2 full grades higher (based on sales).

      Hey Richard, thanks for watching and commenting. If I was ever planning on selling them, I might consider that, but I don't think I'll ever be selling them. A lot of these are cards my wife or kids will have to deal with when I'm long gone. The lines can get blurry between grades. A high-end 4 can bleed into a low end 5, and a high-end 5 can overlap a low-end 6 value wise. But I'm not that worried about it. Thanks again.
