Gasoline generator, and inverter installation on my semi

  • I installed a similar system on a cargo trailer conversion to a camper. Avoid the APU expense, and unreliability with a straightforward, nearly invisible way to COOL and HEAT your semi truck without the engine running all night and all day to stay comfortable. Even better? Avoid the downtime and expensive APU fixes. If this generator or AC/Heat unit goes out, either can be replaced in a matter of hours vs WEEKS of downtime if your APU goes out.

    Nice setup man. I’m thinking of doing something similar but on my Freightliner Classic I’m going to have my passenger side step box removed and have a storage box put in it’s place to house the generator. I don’t have a passenger seat so it makes more room in the truck and seeing how I never use that door for anything it makes sense plus it’s really the only place I have a room for a box big enough for a decent sized generator. I’m thinking of using the Westin house iq4500. I made a break down of how many watts everything uses and that generator will power everything at the same time without having to unplug something like a portable heater/ac because those have a big draw on them

    Good job! That ac unit seems a little bulky. Maybe a rooftop ac unit in the future!

      Yes, it takes up valuable floor space but it cools and heats! The rooftop units... not sure if any provide heat and A/C. Was thinking to make a second video due to poor audio. I also destroyed this generator and was able to get a full refund! I've got a second one, same brand.

      @@darkhorse2reign they make a super nice, low profile, rooftop with heat! I was going to put one in my hotshot but decided against it. If i had a semi though? Absolutely!

    The firman gens don’t last that long, but it’s good if you got it at Costco, I have a 14,000 btu a/c like yours but with an easy start and I use a Honda 2200 drawback I can’t remote start 🤣

      No real issues with this generator. You don't need remote start but it's really nice to have sometimes like when you pull up to a stop and want to take a nap or eat and rest with the truck OFF. Just hit the remote and it starts and then stops when you want to turn the truck engine back ON.
      BTW, I destroyed my first one by accident (messed with the carb) and took it back for a full refund. Try that with a APU. Also, the second one has been ultra reliable so far. I don't recommend doing any of the maintenance yourself such as cleaning the fuel filter because it's plastic and very easily damaged. When I get back off my current trucking run, I'm going to get ROUTINE service (air filter, oil change, spark plug but also clean the fuel tank because I messed up and pushed the filter inside along with dirt) by a certified generator mechanic.

    Why didn't you do the same thing with a mounted minisplit

    • @darkhorse2reign
      @darkhorse2reign  2 роки тому +1

      Simplicity and expense. Everything is completely modular and can be instantly moved to another truck or replaced. Can't do that with a mini split. Would a mini split be better on space? Yes. Has my floor system worked out great? Yes.

    QUICK QUESTION IS THAT INSTALLATION FOR THE GENERATOR DOT APPROVED

    • @darkhorse2reign
      @darkhorse2reign  2 роки тому +1

      No powered accessories have to be DOT approved that I'm aware of. Do you mean is there anything creating an unsafe condition? I'm still alive after hundreds of hours using this thing from Los Angeles to Texas to Georgia. Cold or hot doesn't matter, it just works when I need it.

      Im thinking he means the mounting of it to the cat walk. And yes. As long as it's strapped down with straps or bolted to the frame, etc.. it is fine. Must have it at least strapped down with a strap that has a working load limit.

    How did you start it remotely

    • @darkhorse2reign
      @darkhorse2reign  2 роки тому

      Has a key fob to start or stop. You can also start the generator with a pull start or button push on the generator. I highly recommend turning off the generator by closing off the gas valve and starving the carburetor.
