@@BUPMY1 ye the guest art was great artwork, but I feel it was a bit too fancy for the humble topics of the podcast. I don't need molecular gastronomy when I visit the drive thru
I was lucky enough to live in the middle of the Mid-South territory when the RR Express came in and had the feud with the Midnight Express. I saw them wrestle each other countless times and every match was very different and almost magical compared to some of the slower matches.
Same here, that was my youth. Loved the R&R Express and hated the Midnight Express. Cornette would make me so mad. It’s taken videos like this for me to forgive Jim🤣🤣
Seen the artwork, had to make sure this wasn't an old video. Welcome back Travis! I have only five words for you: Damn glad to see you boy! 😜 (Movie quote)
I saw Ricky and Reuben Gibson take on the Assassins managed by Billy Spears at the Houston County Farm Center in Dothan Alabama around 1980. That night the assassins attacked Reuben Gibson and Billy Spears threw fire in Reuben's face. Later that night Ricky Gibson came out and attacked the Assassins and Billy Spears with a 2x4 he broke accross Billy Spears's face. Best match I ever saw in my life. It's what made me a rasslin fan for life.
Did you guys notice how the other artists were initially making detailed super art to show off their skills and style, and when everyone kept mentioning Travis' art being the best, they all switched to how Travis makes it by making it funny and including something random Jim mentioned into the video? Welcome back Travis.
As a kid growing up here in Houston,me and my folks were fixtures of Friday nights at the Coliseum for several years starting in the late '70,s.Unfortunately,we moved to California in '83,so i missed out on what would've been the greatest matchups in terms of non-stop action with the Midnights and the Rock-n -Roll.My cousin was actually there to witness their scaffold match, which described to me years before it was done at Starrcade, had me absolutely blown away.Kudos to both teams and Jimmy for helping keeping wrestling alive and hot in the Bayou City.I've now got that scaffold match on vid,and it's still epic.
I was fortunate to see Rick & Robert Gibson in the Tn territory in the 70s. Jim failed to mention Rick Gibson walking half way across the ring on the ropes, long before "Taker" was doing it. I always felt Rick was never given the credit he deserved although he held various titles.
Never saw him wrestle but I had the pleasure of working on the ring crew for my buddy’s local promotion when I was a sophomore in high school and Ricky Gibson ran shows from a bar he owned here in town. I can’t attest to his wrestling abilities but I can promise you, he’s THE filthiest story teller on planet earth. I’m talking vile things that even now as an adult I didn’t know people could do sexually. As a high school kid we were fascinated.
Welcome back Travis! The detail in your drawings (like the bandana on Rock N Roll Corny) is just one example of what separates you apart from anyone else.
I've watched pro wrestling since I was about 7 (my grandmother introduced me to it) and for all that time it gets harder and harder to look past the brutality of the sport. Not talking about someone working stiff, but that these guys have to take so many risks and invariably suffer the effects for the rest of their lives.
Ricky Gibson? For as big a RnR Express fan as I was as a kid in the early 80s, I have absolutely no memory of this guy whatsoever. Or Ricky Lee Jones in Crockett. In fact, I thought the name was a typo until listening.
I just watched the midnight express vs the rock n roll express in sam Houston arena, I forgot what it looks like to see the flying beer cups in the air and everyone in the ring dodging em even when the babyfaces won. that ref looked like he was in his late 40s or early 50s but he was gonna get him some action, classic, and the turn buckles were held together with duck tape.
I really love the new drawings, animations/illustrations, sedation, masterbation what ever it's called. The newer artists drawing the thumbnails this old ones are low quality, and shiit my 9 year old niece draws like this, so it's not impressive if the person drawing this isn't 9 years old. Please let the new person(s) illustrate ur thumbnails n keep them.
If the Gibsons were still together, who would have been Ricky's partner. Word has it that three people were considered for the two R&R Express spots. The third was Terry Taylor.
From all I heard about Ricky Gibson he was so good that some were considering him for a run with the NWA title. Unfortunately, the injuries and not being a good promo killed it for him.
Goodness! There is a Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson and now Ricky Gibson. Wresting names have been lazy as hell forever. Adam Page, Adam Cole, Ethan Page, Brian Cage, etc.
Ricky Morton’s real name really is Richard (Rick) Morton and Robert Gibson’s real name is Ruben Gibson. At least they used derivations of their actual names. Out of the latter 4 you named, only one even uses part of their real name in their ring name: Brian Cage’s real name is Brian Button. I give them a pass if they’re using variations on their actual names. Can’t fault a guy for wanting to perform under his real name, even if it may be boring.
I like these thumbnails with this art work better. Not sure why there was changes? This art work is simpler and easy to see who's who. It pops more. The recent changes especially on small thumbnails - with video game art work or whatever it was - makes it hard to tell who was who or what was going on. The simpler animation works better...
Ricky Gibson and Magnum TA. 2 great wrestlers that had their careers cut short by a car wreck. I never saw Ricky but I've always heard he was awesome. Hope he is well if he is still around.
Welcome back, Travis. Glad you're feeling better.
Hey, what's going on with Travis and the recent artwork? I have been out of the loop for personal reasons.

Welcome back. Can't wait until the next Tony Khan video...
I’ve been watching rasslin lol since early 80 when I was young. Love listening to Jim Cornett. Thank y’all for the good memories!!
The good memories as in the near heart attacks AEW gives him. I feel like we're all Lucky to grow up in this Elite era.
The Gibsons were so good. I was a big fan of theirs. Ricky on his own could've been a legend.

while I've enjoyed many of the other artist's, Travis is just...foundational.
I always loved the double drop kick finisher by RnR Express
Agreed! It was one of the few tag team finishers that made sense
Ricky Gibson was hugely over in Panama City/Pensacola and on the Pensacola-Mobile TV

I never knew Ricky Lee Jones was Ricky Gibson! Makes sense that he would have a different last name at that point.
Oh wait, Travis Heckel is back! You love to see it.
Lol, good to have you back, Travis. The guest artists were great but I missed him. His art work is subtle yet perfect
Sweet! The visuals feel whole again!!

I know Travis art when I see it 👏
Id love Jim to do 30 mins a week dedicated to stories about a wrestler from the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s
30 mins a week? Jim has enough of those stories for two years worth of content without thinking.
