@@Ecco_The_DolphinRemington, Mossberg, Benelli, CZ, Ithaca, Beretta. Don’t let someone behind a counter talk you into one of the off brand cheap ones with tales about how they sell them all the time and how everyone loves them etc.
They're still very much around that price range. Funny thing though is the 88 was supposed to be a budget variant based on the 500 but now the 500 has pretty much gone down to almost being equal in price to the 88.
The Ithaca 37 has always been a very cool shotgun, smooth action, great feel - but the bottom eject is also a weakness. The side eject allows an easy load of a single shot, when the shotgun is empty, without having to load any shells into the magazines. The Ithaca 37 style action won’t allow that. When empty, a person has to load a shell into the magazine and then pump the action to load up a shell.
Winchester SXP, Mossberg S.A 20, CZ 612, Stoeger m3000, Stevens 560 all turkish yet awesome shotguns. Not all Turkish shotguns are trash, just have to sift through trash sometimes. Mav 88, Stevens 320, Tokarev TX3 12HD- all budegt reliable and tough
The Rock Island was a little funny story. When it first debuted on social media it's name was branded and implied to be a clone of Winchester 1897 Trench Gun (TP-97 I believe was the original name) and Rock Island just got roasted online because it was clearly not a clone of the Winchester 1897 but the Ithaca so yeah they had to go back and reset the name.
Winchester actually commissioned a Turkish firearms company to produce a modern rendition of their famous ww1 shotgun. It's called the SXP trench, and it only costs between $409 and $429. Some sellers have it at $278
The Model 12 is what you're talking about and was made by American Craftsmen and not turkish slave labor ... and it's FNH that made that happen since they're the ones licensed for the Winchester firearms
Good stuff. That double barrel is a good lookin gun and the Ithaca clone is pretty interesting. Wouldn't mind grabbing one if I saw it on sale somewhere. Me personally, If i had to recommend a shotgun to someone, needing or wanting one, id still tellem to get a mossberg 500. Probably the most solid shotgun for the money still to this day. Ive had several 500s and 590s over the years, probably around 10 to 12, the oldest is probably over 30 years old. Not a single one of them has ever let me down or had a hiccup, over the course of 10s of thousands of rounds, and decades of the elements while hunting and traveling.
The Turkish O/U reviewed, has it been shot for trap? Because 500 rds in trap can be done in a weekend. I'm interested to know if heat from continuous firing makes the hinges swell up making the gun difficult if not impossible to open during the middle of a round of trap. I had a Stoeger Condor about 15 years ago that after 10-15 shells in trap, specifically, would seize up on the line, in the middle of a round. Why trapshooting specifically? Because in trap, you're shooting in more rapid succession between turns than in sporting clays or skeet. You're standing on a station , and with five shooters, the tempo is much, much quicker than the other clays games that require one shooter on station at a time, firing 2, 4 or 6 rounds, stepping off station and not shooting again for another 10-15 minutes, allowing the gun to cool. In trap, you blow through a round of 25 in less than ten minutes, even with five shooters on post. Then, when you walk to your next round or field, it's generally less than five minutes before you're on station again, for another 25.
I foolishly bought a 12 ga. CZ O/U for shooting sporting clays. What a mistake! In a round of sporting clays, you fire 50 rounds, but after firing 20 to 25 rounds, the barrels at the action end would heat up and expand to the point you couldn’t open or close the action. The metal obviously wanted heat treated properly and I would have to finish the round using a borrowed gun from the Club. Sold the CZ and bought a Beretta.
Most never have been, and never will be, in combat so these "budget" are Well more than adequate for the Average Joe Bob... Okay couch Commandos...tell me how WRONG I am, and that I'm stupid.
Right on Brother! Some guys don't shoot 500 rds of 12 ga in a year or a lifetime. Our Police issued Rem 870s were prolly fired 50-60 rds per year for Quals. Over 10 years that is 500 rds or more. I know my personal shotguns get maybe 50 rds a year.
Storger is a real good gun for the price. Hard to find one better at that price point
Maverick 88 was my choice. Paid $180 NIB 8 years ago.
The RIA looks like a decent choice for the price!
i agree
i don’t have that shotgun but i do have a single shot and i’ve got 2 pistols from RIA and they’ve all run perfectly for me
solid company
Right didn't know they manufactured a shotgun
@@HarryPalmer-P.I. They don't. Imported from Derya Arms in Türkiye
@@HarryPalmer-P.I. They don’t manufacture it, they import it from Turkey, and they tend to suffer from most Turkish import issues.
I have to admit, I have a Tokarev shotgun like the rock island you have and I love it!
I’m getting the tokarev as well, ha ha. Couldnt resist it for the price
Maverick 88 is the best first shotgun
I did pickup a brand new Remington 870 field master and it’s very very nice. Better quality than my express
Wait no Maverick 88?
For anyone considering a shotgun, PLEASE don’t make the mistake I’ve made of sacrificing quality for price. Your life may be at stake.
What would you recommend for 1000 or less?
@@Ecco_The_Dolphinyou aren’t really on a buget if you have a 1000 dollar for a shot gun for a beginner

If using a shotgun for self-defense, an inexpensive pump is the answer.

Is the maverick88 by mossberg still cheap? I remembered getting that when I was 19 and paid like $200 for it. I'm 39 now.
I just bought one last year on sale for $200 and it’s even the security model with the extended mag tube. Great gun!
@ross_7751 Good to know it's the same price all these years.
I got one for $230 last year.
@alexc9434 not bad at all!!!

Look for a police surplus Remington 870 or Mossberg 590.
Those are definitely decent for the price. I have a Franchi, Beretta and Benelli. I guess it’s because of my Italian roots 😁. Take care brother.
Good call on the M3K
It will be good to see the over/under review. I didn't notice barrel ports. 👍🇺🇲

My favorite is that RIA pump! Man that thing's cool! Remember the review you did on it. Hope you're doing good brother!
I own 3 Rock Island shotguns. Love all 3.
Stoeger is owned by Bernadelli, Benelli, Beretta company umbrella. Many parts and accessories for those brands will interchange.

that would be the 1200 (steel)u speak of they also produced the 1300 (aluminum)that more close to the sxp(aluminum)
The sxp has nothing in common with the ww1 trench models 😂
