  • Don't turn your shoulders in the golf swing if you want to hit driver longer. Golfer's make this mistake all the time and you won't just lose distance you will struggle to hit driver straight.
    In this golf lesson Danny Maude reveals exactly how the shoulders work in the golf backswing AND downswing. Improving how you rotate in the golf swing enables you to do two things:
    1. Store energy in the backswing
    2. Release that energy at the perfect time at impact
    What you will enjoy about these simple golf tips is they can be taken straight to the course because Danny will help you feel and visualise the perfect golf swing.

    ABOUT DANNY
    -----------------------
    Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
    I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
    On UA-cam and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
    Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
    I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

    Danny, I watched this video several times and repeated the drills over and over. I played today, and for the first time, I hit my drives straight and gained about 25 yards. The simplicity of your explanations and swing thoughts allowed me to finally feel the proper swing and club path. It has been a struggle for years. I can’t tell you how much this meant to me. The other benefit is that on the 2 times I sliced it, I knew instantly what I did incorrectly and fixed it with your tips. I’ve used your tips for pitches and green side bunkers found in your other videos with much success. You’re really the best online instructor I’ve found. Thanks so much for helping me enjoy the game so much more!

Then I go in the garage and I pull all my driver shots ahahah I guess i'll keep on practising and someday I won't rely on luck to drive a 285-300Y tee shot :) I'm near the 106 club speed when I achieve a really good one for now.. I simply need consistency. Is that too much to ask! Thanks again Danny for the valuable lesson.

      I hope this helps:
      I've been back at the driving range for 5 weeks after a 20 year break. I understand the struggle. This old stubborn dog is no longer a well-oiled machine.
      What clicked for me was a video by Jonathan called "Hit hard, stop quick." It teaches good contact and so much more.
      If it doesn't click for you, try the following:
      - do half swings only, or what is called 'L to L' swings. Focus on tracing the largest circular path you can make. Forget the top of the backswing and the cool looking follow through.
      - keep your head still and your spine angle constant. Focus on letting your torso and upper body be the anchor point of the pendulum you're creating. Your legs will follow and adapt naturally.
      - Most importantly, slow down!
      - with progress comes less tension and more momentum. With momentum your half swings will become 3/4 swings. In time it will become a full swing.
      Then, work on the top of your backswing,l and the follow through. What happens inbetween will take care of itself from all your half swings practice. This is where I'm at after 5 weeks.
      Then, you can really get into the weeds with things like sequencing.
      Good luck.

    • @stevieray1828
      @stevieray1828 23 дні тому +1

      Maybe you need to relax your muscles, and focus on a smoother sweeping motion, don't worry about striking the ball. Effortless movement is actually fast and you don't want to swing hard with tension.

    • @DanielMaude
      @DanielMaude  10 місяців тому

      Great question Ken. When golfers hear the word turn they will tend to move them around the body creating a very flat looking swing.
      I much prefer the loading of the shoulders or the spiralling up of the shoulders as this promotes the correct up and down movement of the arms.
      The body primarily takes the club around the body while the arms primary role is to take it up and down

    This seems an excellent guide as to how to achieve what we golfers strive for. I have found recently that having a little more weight on the lead foot at setup helps before I commence the backswing. Then I try to get my weight shifted back onto the lead side before I commence the downswing, while keeping centred over the ball throughout. There is a lot to master before one achieves consistency, but Danny's guides always help to explain the essentials.

    As a short stature golfer I figured this concept out awhile back when I was trying to build a repeatable Driver swing. Danny is correct that it will lead to consistent solid hits which adds distance and accuracy. My proof was, that my same level taller friends, who should out drive me in distance, will only out drive me maybe once or twice a round when they get lucky and produce a correct swing plane leading to more of their potential speed and power. I only drive the ball 250 to 260 yards, but in the world of hacker that's 320 baby!!!! 🤣🤣🤣

    This is exactly what I’ve been working on recently. I was swinging too vertically and my release was like the one you demonstrated which ended up in a slice. Since I’ve really concentrated on setup, swing plane (which now feels almost horizontal compared to the old one) and better release of the club, I can hit draws or fades on demand and sometime even straight! 😂. Distance has consistently been 20-30 yards further too now that the ball isn’t spinning like crazy. Great video Danny, will be watching it on repeat this week.

By the way your lesson with your dad on getting out of the bunker was so extremely beneficial. Played with a senior golfer who played from the white tees, maybe 3-4 handicapper. He thought my bunker play was outstanding. Love your KISS principals. In this video you helped me with the visualization on the finish of splashing a paint brush. Made things so clear and easy. Another great video Danny.
    Just a comment or two on the shoulders.
    I have a book by a guy named Ted Hunt and he tells the story of on a cold morning at Pebble Beach a young Jack Nicklaus explained the the lead shoulder points down to the ball during the initial stages of the takeaway. I’m assuming this is what you are aiming for?
    Secondly I was watching Full Swing on Netflix and there was a close up of Colin Morikawa during his backswing and it highlighted this movement exactly.
    By the way the visuals you applied are really helpful
    Cheers

    This all makes perfect sense! One thing I'm confused about is why some people say to drop your trail shoulder. Wouldn’t this make getting back on 45° plane significantly more difficult? I try that motion with the club across my shoulders and I can't see how you ever get back on plane.

    I’ve really been struggling with hitting the impact way towards the top of club face, particularly with driver. “Steep” so to speak. Simple fixes like tee height isn’t helping. I’ve exhausted myself in rounds and practice trying to overcome it. It’s affecting my ability to get in play off the tee. I played in an open tournament too last weekend, double bogie on everything that wasn’t a par 3 due to this, ball goes straight up, broken tee, Occasionally I’ll get the impact down towards heel or toe center and squirt it right. I’m squaring about one in 30 balls with driver now..Can you make a suggestion that is repeatable that I can consistently get in play off tee shots deeper? Thanks Danny!

  • @ExbotHero
    @ExbotHero Рік тому

    I really dislike it when a pro doesn't seem to understand the main reason why people turn in the way he describes they shouldn't. (Most of the time it's not the lack of knowledge it's the lack of ability to turn that creates this poor motion.) Disclaimer. if you look at true beginner the number might be the opposite. (I think however he is talking about the most played as a group and the majority who do this are over 45-50 with more than enough knowledge as it is.)
    I promise you, more than 95 % of the player who does this in that group has some kind of back problem that prevents them from turning in the way they should. (In other words, this kind of "advise" is pretty useless to them). If you can't do it, you can't do it, right?!
    As a former scratch player with a severe back problem today (now playing at 22) still making some rounds per year around 78-82 but most of them end up over 100 I'm painfully aware of this problem.
    His tip is useless for us with really bad back problems. If we stay centered we have to move the hip and the shoulders to exactly the same degree to make something happen, creating a shot where you start with your arm first in your downswing as your hip can´t start without starting the arm - And as the arm is faster after that you haven't solved a thing for us (However if people in this group turned away from the center this type of player gets a tiny bit more shoulder-turn giving them/us the only way left to create something similar to a real swing.) Read; A place where the hip can start the downswing, not the arm.
    Otherwise, our turns stop after 45 degrees and/or just copy our hip, and the degree at which the body part turns back and forward.
    If I and people like me fight that and force our shoulder to move a little more than the hip the pain would be unbearable, creating more and more stiffness for every shot we make.
    Guess what happens then?! Really bad scores follow, trust me. (Even though the initial strikes might be really good.) This is not a great idea.

    This is highway robbery! 😂 Danny boy in my opinion is so damn good he could step in and coach pros at the highest level and improve their game,,, we’re getting him free.. world class player/coach who could literally have his pick to coach but is really doing this to improve the games of those who couldn’t afford a coach much less afford the equipment to join the golf team. I took lessons or more accurately “tips” from any passer Byer that looked like he could swing a club… Ive pieced together a pretty decent game but since I started implementing Danny’s tips and technique in my practice regime and has me hitting more fairways and greens then in my entire 30 years of trying to figure this game out..Danny me Boy, you do your parents proud! Thank you for what you offer..
