  • Hi! I’m Serafina, dread artist and small business owner. I’ve been asked a lot of times how I install my own dreadlock extensions, so I have taken the time to document the process for you!
    It takes me about 4-6 hours to do my full head, depending on the amount of dreads I want installed. In this video, I started with 21 dreads previously installed, and finished with a total of 53 double ended wool dreadlock extensions.
    I also create the dreadlocks, you can find my current ready to ship sets available here:

      Yes...Couldn't find sectioning videos where the hair stylist was disciplined and patient enough to ACTUALLY DEMONSTRATE, row by row, into sections , the entire head as you did in this video. I hate the sectioning part, because it's tedious and takes agonizingly longer than I'd hope to expect, to have it all in and done, so you can rest your arms and get out of the bathroom...eventually. So, I appreciate that your video wasn't time lapsed on sectioning and this allowed me in that time to visualize how my head was about to look, It encouraged me to be patient, that if I visualize the grid, then do all the boring sections, then the rest goes quickly... Neat to watch your entire look change! Inspired by your awesome cotton candy pink dreadlocks! Thanks for making this video! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

    Thank you so much for this ! I just got my first set, and just installed them.. i will be redoing them in a few weeks before an event because i know i didnt lay them properly 😅. This was so helpful. Do you have any tips for getting them to lay flat? My top steand likes to kinda stick up a bit.
    And for a beginner would it be easier to toe everything off first, and then braid (taking any clips, or rubber bands out of hair as each section is braided) or would this be easier to just section as i go ? And how do you know if theu are to tight or to loose? I had a few i had to undo and rebraid because they HURT but also have some that are not very close to the scalp (my husband braided them lol). I am a baby at this.. never had them before... so any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

      Are your dreads synthetic or wool? I have a little tip in there about spritzing the woolies and rolling them a little to get them to lay down better. Synthetics are a bit more difficult, sometimes you need to boil them and hang them to dry for them to reshape the way you want.
      For the sectioning, I usually just do rows at a time because that’s what works for me personally!
      Just takes patience and practice, darling. Keep at it and you’ll be a master in no time! Best of luck!

    How do you prevent the bands from snapping? Every morning I'm reinstalling at least 5 to 10 braids. I sleep with a bonnet. I love having my dreads but it's a pain to redo so many every day. Is there another way besides using rubber bands?

    • @SerafinaTreasuresCo
      @SerafinaTreasuresCo  5 місяців тому +1

      You can use thread to secure your hair, I just find natural rubber bands work best for me and my hair! You can find them on Amazon.

    Hiya, was wondering how short is to short to put dread extensions in? Also is it okay to leave the fringe out

    • @SerafinaTreasuresCo
      @SerafinaTreasuresCo  8 місяців тому

      I've left my bangs out in previous installs, it's completely fine to do whatever your heart desires!
      Typically hair will need to be at least 3 inches to get a good wrap around the dread, but that also depends on the thickness of the dread as well. Thinner dreads will be easier to wrap short hair around.

    When I install my de dreads there's too much slack at the root, no matter how tight I start the braid....any advice? Caucasian fine hair here👋

    • @SerafinaTreasuresCo
      @SerafinaTreasuresCo  Місяць тому

      It’s not how tight the braid is that matters most, but I find that if you pull the hair at an angle that the dread is not going to normally sit while doing the twist and braid, it can cause unevenness, pulling, or even slack on the root. So if your hair is going to be down, braid it in that direction. If you’re pulling it up or back, follow that direction for the most even install!

      I ended up using 43 for this installation, these dreads are on the thicker side so I use less than I normally would for an average set.

      @@SerafinaTreasuresCohi there just to clarify 43 double ends pieces or 43 dreads in total? Sorry if that's not the right terminology 😅

    • @SerafinaTreasuresCo
      @SerafinaTreasuresCo  8 місяців тому

      43 double ended dread extensions, so only 43 sections and braids to do :)
      It will end up having 86 individual ends as 1 DE = 2 dread ends

    • @SerafinaTreasuresCo

      Oh no, not at all. Wool dreads are much lighter than synthetic, it’s my personal preference.
