- How does hot tub plumbing work? In this video, I will try and keep things as simple as possible as I explain exactly how a hot tub plumbing system works.
If you are looking for a more in depth video, I have one here - • DIY Hot Tub Plumbing G...
The whole idea of this video is to give you a 1000ft overview of how a hot tub plumbing system works.
Can i help you in any way? Do you have any questions, then please do get in touch

I'm building my own hot tub, should the circulation pump draw water from the bottom of the tub or the top? Same question about the water coming from the recirculation pump after it goes through the heating element, should it be pushed into the top or the bottom?
Thanks in advance.
You should have 2 suctions drains at the base, a skimmer at the top so suction is both top and bottom - hot water returns can come in the middle of the walls. Hope that helps - Andi
@@Buildahottubi have a dual speed pump ...my filter flap valve is faulty. Can it be the reason why my pump1 has almost no suction and not able to Prime?
My bypass valve of the filter is not opening. My jet one does not have water coming out of the jets whether I put it on speed one or 2 and the bypass remains closed. Is this the cause of my problem? Thanks
Thanks man fixing my hot tub today changed the circulation pump and still no heat or waterfall flow 😡 so to the basics try to understand how the hot tub works and now I'm realizing in the future I can learn how to build my hot tub from you
+Cole Schaefer glad my video was able to help - thanks for the comment - cheers Andi
@@Buildahottub Thanks for the videos bro understand the system now I want to build my own
I have an in ground hot tub. When the heater is on it starts banging on and off (the flow and element lights flick on and off). I can’t imagine that is correct so I shut the power off to the heater and left the pump running. However when I turn the blower and jets on the pump stops. Can you help?? I’d love to send a video.
Hi There, yes, that doesnt sound good at all. Could be an electrical supply issue and there is not enough current is my initial thought - but the banging is odd. To have a heater and pump that are bad at the same time is a little strange. Send me over a video and I will take a look for you and see if I can suggest anything - andi {a.t} buildahottub.com
Can we just use 1 line for jacuzzi pump and circulation pump for jets?
Yes, that is how a dual speed pump works just one 1 line. If you have 2 pumps on 1 line they can "fight" each other for the flow which is not good and will shorted their lifespan. - hope that helps - Andi
I just bought a house that had a pool with a hot tube built in it now I fixed the pool but the hot tube has a gas water heater from what I can tell intruders came and took the coper out of it my question to you is after I fix the water heater how do I do the plumbing do I need another pump ??
Can't be certain here from your explanaton - if you email me at andi (a.t) buildahottub.com with some pictures and more information I can see how I can help you - Thanks Andi
hi, can we use blower and ventury system together
Thanks for the comment - normally no, it is one or the other - thanks Andi
Do the air line and return line have to be a continuous loop?
No they don't - thanks for the comment Matt
My bypass valve of the filter is not opening. My jet one does not have water coming out of the jets whether I put it on speed one or 2 and the bypass remains closed. Is this the cause of my problem? Please help anyone. 😢
Hi There, the flapper valve in the filter normally only opens on high speed, it is there to increase the flow on the jets when you are on high speed so the filter "doesnt get int he way" On low speed, it would normally be closed so I dont see this as being the reason you have next to no flow on low speed. A quick test would be just to remove the filter cartridge - if that improves this, then it is the valve at fault. It is more likely you have a blockage or an air lock that is causing the low flow on your low speed setting. Low speed is there for filtration and heating, it is not there to agitate the water just move it around. Hope that helps - Andi
@@Buildahottub thanks so much! The faulty filter valve was blocking both tubes. I removed it completely and everything is working normally. Is the valve necessary and will the pumps mess up, if I run the hot tub without it? Thanks again!
@@kingbee4474 Perfect - glad you are sorted. You may find it does not filter as well as normally on slow speed it would force all the water through the filter - just keep an eye on your water quality and you can work out if you need to replace it or not - if you do, check out my parts site at www.parts4tubs.com - thanks
If my dual speed pump is only running on low speed (heat circulation) what are the potential causes?
Hi Jesse, thanks for the message. Couple of things. 1) pump not wired correctly, you need a 4 core cable for a dual speed pump and there are 4 terminals that all should have wires connected to them. 2) incorrect voltage being supplied (if you are in the US, judging by the flag you are) it should be 230V for a dual speed pump not 115V 3) Jet button broken on your keypad controller and lastly, 4) the spa pack might have lost its configuration - you will need to tell it that you have a dual speed pump, if it thinks it is just a single speed or a circulation pump you would not get the jets - hope that helps - Andi
@@Buildahottub Thanks Andi! Much better information there than anyone I have called out to service it yet. Ill look into the 4 strand wiring, and the spa pack and the spa pack configuration. Those sound like the most likely to me.
+Jesse Allison my pleasure. Out of all of them, if it was working then stopped, spa pack configuration “loss” is most likely. What spa pack do you have? If it is balboa I have lots of info on my site on configuring them
@Buildahottub it is a balboa! I did watch your video on configuring the spa pack, and will see what I can do. Is there any other content you could point me to?

Hi Andy, any chance of getting your WhatsApp number to share a video of my DIY hot tub and get some advice on how to improve it from you? I want to install a blower on my system and also up the flow to get the jets working at force.
Sure - not going to post on here but drop me an email to andi (at) buildahottub.com and I will see how I can help - thanks Andi
