Great camera set-up! Tail camera is fantastic the way it is IMO; I like how it banks with the aircraft and at the same time shows the smaller inputs or effects of the wind on the aircraft. Thanks for the video and showing the engine bay was a bonus.
That tail cam came in sick! Really gave a sim vibe. It did really well with steady cam while you had turbulence! Any plans on a shock suspension upgrade to the nose wheel?
The nose wheel has a bungee cord suspension but there are plans to upgrade that to something a bit better. I thought that the tail cam turned out great too! :-)
It looks like you *DID* have the horizon leveling on, on the tail cam. The plane pitched & yawed, but the Earth stayed in place. And up there, video looks like a game's third-person-view. Easy to see where we're going! 👀🛩
The digital image stabilization does a limited amount of horizon leveling. If I turn that off, the image shakes. You'll notice when I turn at 9:00, the horizon does indeed tilt. If I turn horizon leveling on, it won't tilt at all. I'm gonna try it on the next video but I'm thinking I'll go back to what I have on this one.
Hey matt,Hello from sunny Georgia. I just bought the same plane.Identical to what you have.minus the paint. I love it. I was a little concerned about the engine, but it seems to have proven itself so far. thanks for vids. maybe we can meet one day.
The Jab 2200 looks lonely in the engine bay, but it gets the job done. Lots of room to work on it, which is a plus. Do you hear of all the 2200A scuttlebut, about the thru bolts in the engine, the direction of the pistons, etc. over in Canada? I have the same engine in my Bantam, it only has 145 hours on it, but when it gets a bit older I might do some mods on it. There are guys around here who reckon they know how to fix them up really good.
The tail cam is cool, but it blocks our view of a lot of what you're seeing. I'm kind of partial to the cam under the tail. If you've got a tiedown ring under there, you've got a handy place to mount it.
Was that agitators doing their thing in the pond at the mill? It would be nice to get a little closer look at that stuff. Tail cam seems to provide a good indication of how you're either being affected by gusts, or putting on a show. Is it too early to mention your next aircraft acquisition? AirCam for a bit of multi-engine to add variety to your personal fleet.
nice vid matt... only concern for me eis the frayed cabling going into the left side engine shroud @3:33 - might wanna put some split loom or something over it for abrasion protection. as for the levelling... NOOOO turn that crap off - imho that stuff just looks stupid :D but it's your video...
No need for concern there, it's just the outer sheath fraying and it's only a CHT sensor wire. I'll probably tidy it up anyway though as it doesn't look all that great. I'm gonna try the camera the other way for the next video just to see but I'll probably turn it back to the way it was since I like to see the horizon banking too. Thanks for the comment! :-)
So that's the scariest flight and probably should done with one pilot. But the positive you can land in. To the wind in any direction with like 0 runway 😂 didn't think about that very good move on flying in to the wind lol. Save you some gas on way back. Tell your mechanic to look into the turbulence caused by the hills 😊lol
👍👆🦅looks like dual ignition with a flywheel generating to the battery and to the engine which would give you Lots of redundancy must have a CDI box in the mix kinda like my 503 if I’m correct nice .
Isn't the nose strut supposed to be at least 1/4 way up from the stop when on ground?, In the video the strut is against the stop, it doesn't seems like the bungee is stretched at all.
I'm not sure. All I can tell you is that it takes my whole body weight on the nose to get it to stretch so I'm pretty sure it's ok. It's definitely stretched tight.
personally, i'd prefer not to have horizon leveling on. i like to see everything from the plane/pilot perspective. to me, it sort of gives more of a genuine flight experience without actually being there. but then, that is coming from a drone pilot who flies FPV drones. still, great video and i always look forward to them.
Not sure the brand but they were purchased from PSA Enterprises. psaenterprises.com/ Tell them Matthew sent you if you want to see a confused look because they have no idea who I am...
I believe up in the maple states that if your flying what they call ultralights you have to have a helm or that hat qualifies I believe. And that hat would be nice even in the 701 in case you get bumpy and you know.. hit that bar at the top.
Where’s Vickie? Haven’t seen her in a video for a long time....
I like how the tail cam is. I like its leveling feature, since its a different view than the other cameras that don't do that.
Great video guys. Love the tail cam. My palms tend to sweat when in a plane and sometimes when watching a plane.
It looks great it really shows how much turbulence there was Awesome view 👏🏻👍
Man, that looked sporty up there. But the 701 took it like a champ !
Nice engine walk around . All interesting stuff!
Really like your 701 videos. Day in the life flying the 701…
Congratulations on surviving that “exhaust feeding cabin heater” thing. Could have ended very badly!!!!
We could have been getting high two different ways with that... lol!
Ya that looked bad I don’t think it was going in to the inter part of the heater box that goes to the cabin but definitely in the engine compartment 👍

Thanks for the feedback! I think I'm gonna try it the other way for the next flight just to see but I think I agree with you.
Nice plane hey Matt what happened to your ride or die vicky
So tell us about the hats and what happened to Vickie??

Good vid 👍
I like the rear tail cam view -- Looks like a view from the MS Flight sim
Cheers

Hoping you might try another cross country flight - maybe PEI sometime this summer ?
What a cool aircraft!
Maybe!
Excellent landing 4/22/2023yr
Thanks! I worked hard for it!

you have still snow up there ! 😄

Jambaro heads gets cold in the mornings, might need warmth from the some sun.

More 701 Vids please.👍
Magneto.
Cool! What kind of LED lights did you get?
Not sure the brand but they were purchased from PSA Enterprises.

@@mmatt Hahaha! Thanks :D
I just remove the buttons from my regular hats. Then I don't have to have a "flying" hat.

@@capt_nopants9625 Thanks, that didn't occur to me. Good thing they've got all those rules to keep them safe eh!
Great aircraft is that an Ercoupe in your hanger
Cherokee 180 actually. Very similar noses I have discovered. You're the third person to ask if it's an Ercoupe! lol
The real question is have you ever been in a plane that you can actually use the fuel guage, they are mostly fuel guestimators
I always treat them as guestimators! Sure is nice when they work right though...
@@mmatt hahaha yeah it would be awesome if they were like car guages...(imagine not worrying till the light comes on) haha
P.S.
Will you name "Her," and paint it on the nose?
With the new horn, several have suggested "The Road-Runner"... Beep-Beep! lol
As is
