Thanks for this video! I just ordered a replacement GPU fan for my GS66 after having used it for over 5700 hours gaming + probably another 3k hours doing other stuff. Aside from the keyboard W-E-S keys failing after about 15 months it has been a pretty reliable machine. Instead of replacing the keyboard I bought a $30 wireless KB to use.
Awww thanks man for teardown, needed this one so badly. Hopefully, the problem is only the power jack/port and not something seriously wrong with my laptop
Thank you for making this detailed video! My GS66 keyboard buttons started failing as soon as warranty expired, and now I need to go through this procedure because MSI is charging too much to fix it, relative to the cost of the laptop. Where can I get the full keyboard with the back cover? I'm only finding the top plastic layer. Never going to make a mistake of purchasing MSI again.
I have the same problem with keyboard, so some of my buttons doesn't work. I heard that is is caused by a bad design, so the keyboard cable is benched a lot and/or it scratches on the top with bolts. As a solution people offer to use just a bit of a usual tape to stop this scratching. Btw, how you deal with your problem?
@@ervingolvih8703I bought a replacement on ebay and followed this guide ... however, when you remove the metal panel, you have to nip the plastic attachments ... and there is no way to redo that, so my new keyboard has a different feel in the case, but it works ... and I fixed for $50 and 3huors work
Thanks for this video, my sons laptop has the space bar and other keys not working consistently and we will need to possibly replace the keyboard. I can’t believe it’s a little over 2 years old and it has issues.
@@nugget4192 I bought a portable Razer BlackWidow V3 Mini HyperSpeed 65% Wireless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard for my son to game with and had MSI do the repair. The top cover / keyboard are one piece. Idk what you guys have been doing but I have 1 key not working after 4 1/2 years and I took it to Iraq and Syria on a 9 month deployment when I first bought it and it’s only just started having problems.
@@icebox829 Didn't have the right tools. For cutting the rivets off I used a snap blade and I couldn't lie it flat against the surface. Had to be extra careful not to scratch the metal plate (you don't want metal dust/shards contacting the motherboard). For gluing the rivets back on I used a UV glue which worked really well. However the UV flashlight I used to cure it was very weak. It took up to 5 minutes per rivet to cure. And there are a lot of these rivets. Luckily I was able to place the flashlight right on top of the rivet instead of holding it myself. If you're going to do that be careful not to glue the flashlight to the rivet 😅. Also after turning the laptop on I noticed that the chinese keyboard I bought as a replacement had broken light on 3 keys. So yeah make sure the replacement you buy is working before gluing the rivets back on. The keyboard still works by the way. Has been used daily for many hours every since I've replaced it. EDIT: I almost forgot that while you're curing the glue you have to put pressure on the plate or else the keyboard is going to be loose. I don't remember how I did that.
Do I have to remove the battery if I wanna take off the fans only, also it's a must to place new thermal paste after taking off the fans? Thank you very much in advance
Hi, I'm having an issue where the gpu wont show in device manager or anywhere and the laptop will boot up, fans will get super loud, and it will crash (guessing because gpu is not working?) Any solutions please?
Hello, I know it has been 2 years, but when you clean the thermo paste of the mother board you use an Alcohol wipe or you have to use something else to avoid eléctrical charges?
When I replaced the fans they did fit but for some reason I cannot press it fully flat and I have left one screw off from those 3 from fans (not the counted ones by 5), can I leave it like this or will make my fans shake at turbo speed? Feels solid but I am not an expert...

Hi i have an Msi GS66 Stealh with the super crappy Intel AX201 wifi card. I hate it because it is so bad because it drops connection all the time, can't even get it to work on 5GHz band. Only 2.4GHz. Will the Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6E AX1675i wifi for CNVio2 work?
I have a GE66 model, and it's been quite a while, since my keyboard started to be buggy. Keys like "BACKSPACE, R, F, F1, C, 0, 9" just don't work properly, only in combination with others. I know it's hardware issue, because nothing helped for me on software lvl. I've also read enough that keyboards on these models and it's ribbon cabels garbage. In your opinion should i replace the whole keyboard, or i can do something with cable. Some says tape on it helps with this, but haven't tried it yet. Is there're any ways to fix it?
Thank you for the video, really helps, i was just wondering if i need to change my hinges, i would have to remove the screen bezel unscrew the hinges from that area and disassemble the laptop and unscrew the hinges from there too, am i right? If i am not, is there anywhere else i have to focus on
Hi, thanks very much for the video. I have a problem: when mounting the laptop after repasting, I accidentally broke a heat sink screw holder and now I can't make the heatsink make propper contact with de GPU, do you know how can I fix this?
For upgrading my ram should I unplug the battery? And also how often should I check on my thermal paste? Small edit should I upgrade anything else if I upgrade the ram or is everything able to run with 32GB ram?
A little bit of a late reply, but 32 gb of ram is plenty for all games. In fact, Ive never seen a game max out 16gb of ram, though this could change. It would be best to remove all power before connecting/disconnecting anything. It should be fine as long as the laptop is powered off though.
Hello there! The big GPU fan of my gs66 is making a very loud grinding noise. I open it up, but everything looks good, and nothing is grinding. I clean everything up, and the sound is still there. I don't know what is wrong with it. Will changing the fan void the warranty? I still have some warranty, but I need to use this laptop every day.
I've gotten a keyboard replacement for one of these laptops, but after replacing the keyboard, the screen appears to turn itself off after a matter of minutes. This timeframe is a bit longer when the laptop starts without the back cover, but still turns itself off. There doesn't seem to be any unintended points of contact with any wires of the wires on the motherboard that could cause this issue. Any suggestions for what to look at? Could the keyboard replacement be incompatible with the other parts of the laptop?
