The Remote ID Error can stop you flying. Literally. I explain when it happens and how to fix the Remote ID error so you can fly your Mini 4 Pro with the Plus Battery. Also, new drone rules are now in place in Europe and Remote ID is now mandatory in EU countries for many of the most popular models of drone.
Check your actual country's rules before flying; UAVCoach.com is a great help for this.

Regarding EU rules, i should point out there's no such exception for drones under 250 gr in EASA's rules (the video you link to actually mentions this). The only excetpion seems to be in Open for drones that do not have category markings, which, to be fair, is often the case with "old" C0's. keep in mind, however, that while EASA regulations are in place, they won't be in effect in countries where they haven't been confirmed by the local national government yet, because it's each national airspace authority, not EASA, that enforces those rules. There's really no such thing as "EU rules" because each EU country can modify them, as many have already.

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  9 місяців тому

HI @@dorianarbos Not quite true, hence me making that point very clear. Henrik updated the link (copied below) to point to the EASA page that states "from 1st of January 2024 all drones marked C1, C2 and C3 and those operated in the specific category below 120m, will be required to operate with an active and updated remote identification (Remote ID)". It doesn't state C0 and it also goes on to confirm that legacy drones under 250 gms do not need Remote ID, so the standard Minis are definitely exempt. I take you point on the term 'EU Rules', however most EU countries base their rules on EASA, tightening them in some cases but rarely relaxing them, so if a country is basing their rules on EASA regulations, as most EU countries do now, then RID is mandatory.
      Cheers, Ian www.easa.europa.eu/en/document-library/general-publications/drone-open-category-applicable-requirements-fly-1st-january

@@IaninLondon regarding the point about RID for C0, my bad: i missed the update.
Regarding the second point about "EU rules", all i want is to make sure people understand that, to fly anywhere in the EU, they have to check that country's national airspace authority. Forget EASA. While it's true those national authorities will follow EASA to a point, there's still pretty significant differences. Finland for example requires a pilot flying course for all drones, including C0 in Open. You won't find out anything about that anywhere in EASA's website. Germany REQUIRES liability insurance, while EASA says it's only recommended. In Portugal, you'll have to register your C0 drone, and get a license, but no mandatory insurance.
In my country, Spain, for Open C0 we don't require pilot license, drone registration or insurance for C0 Open, just pilot registration, but we're in the middle of updating the law with a new Royal Decree, and nobody really knows exactly what's gonna be in it, so until that's done we're operating by 2019 rules anyway.
And then there's another 23 EASA member states.
As you can see, the conditions in which a DJI Mini can fly in the EU are quite different from one country to another. Pointing to the EASA website, and failing to mention "but check with national aviation of the specific country" will only lead to a lot of disppointed users unable to fly their drones because they thought that checking that EASA website was enough.

As mentioned, the issue is DJI has implemented RID so that the pilot location must have an actively updated GPS fix throughout the flight. What they should do is just use the initial take-off fix as the pilot location. Think about it. That's exactly how it works if you purchase an external RID module. There is no active connection differentiating the drone take-off location from the pilot, nor actively updating the pilot's location & broadcasting it to the module during flight. This annoying issue is why I returned the Goggles 2 & purchased the Goggles Integra instead.

I just did a first brief test: M4P with Plus Battery and RC2 controller, Germany, outside the building. After the connection was established, the usual red notification appeared that using the Plus Battery is not compliant with C0 regulations (I opted this M4P out of C0, so this notification is useless). It disappeared after a fingertip. After getting a good GPS fix I started the drone to a height of about 1m and landed it again.
So the first important thing to know for me is, that I may also use the Plus Batteries with my M4P if I consider it to be safe and useful.
I suppose though, that a M4P which is still C0 will show a different behaviour, might be forced grounded.
I will test the Goggles 2 with MC2 another day if the weather is better, it's snowing right now and frosty air is rushing in from the east, winter is coming.
And before I forget, dear Ian, I wish you a happy new year and thank you for all your efforts. I highly appreciate your videos, especially the technical side, your analyzing of problems. Big help for the community for sure!

Ian, I'm in the USA (Montana) and trying out the Google 2 and Motion Controller in my basement. I got the Remote ID error right off the bat. My iPhone was connected running the Fly App. It recognized I had an unlock GeoZone authorization, and asked to use it. I said Yes and it asked for my phone number, and sent me a code I had to enter in the Fly App which I had attached to the goggles. I flew around and landed. (Not real crazy about twisting my wrist to yaw). I then powered everything down, unplugged the phone and powered everything back up. Got the Remote Id error again, then plugged my phone it, and once my location was established the error went away and I was ready to fly (with no further dialogs to muddle through). Keep up the great and entertaining work! PS: I was using an extended battery.

Good job I did not update the app or firmware as was happy with the way the drones flew and took video as they were, remote-id is definitely a no way man thing and for me that means no buying future products from DJI as they are not upfront about these restrictions and I, for one, don't care to advertise my location to every thief / trouble seeker in the area or where my drone flies. So unless you hack and jailbreak DJI products, they become useless bricks and pointless to waste money on them just to go to a location where there is no internet and that could be extra wasted money on travel etc, I mean no way. I trust the devices I built myself and the DJI products I have not updated as why? since they flew fine and did not need suspect update as turned out to be true as evidenced by yourself. Don't listen to Mandatory dictates of unelected people that put you at risk. I bet their drones don't have ID in Ukraine, since operators have removed it. Do the same here, dudes. If it happens in UK after you guys do the next updates it will mean every Karen in the area right or wrong will be on your case where ever you go just by looking on their app, think it over before updating.

I'm flying Mavic 3 Pro and have been dealing with this issue for about 18 months. HUGE PAIN IN THE ARSE. I'm in Missouri, USA and usually fly in very remote locations with no wifi or cell signals. So getting shut down for any reason is a HUGE problem. I absolutely HATE who ever is creating the mess. This morning, beautiful warm light, went out side the house to film a tractor in a field across the street.... NOPE>. Remote ID Error. I'm to get tshi solved today. and try to figure out a means of how I can stay out of trouble with DJI on this... Boiling over....

I think this happens if it hasn't connected with the internet for a month or so. So I think you won't have an issue if you power up and fky a bit and check for updates at home, where you have WiFi or cellphone signal. Do that before a trip out and you should be good 👍🏻👍🏻

You seem to be looking for a pronlem here. Just don't use those plus batteries and go fly.
