Thanks so much for this valuable video about Alva diapers! Finally someone showing exactly how the diapers actually work. Thanks Nurse Liz
I'm glad it was helpful for you!
You are a hero. Thank you. I've been trying to get my diapers to work on my newborn and was about to give up until she was older or buy newborn cloth diapers because these normal ones seemed WAY too big. Saved me a lot of effort, stress, time and money. 💞
Congratulations on your little!! Hope it helps 🙂
I come back here every baby to refresh! Well named video and terrific explanation! Thank you!!!
Wow thank you definitely helped. I wish I would’ve searched this question sooner so my babies would’ve used the cloth diapers earlier. My twin girls just made it to 10lbs and I finally started to try to fit the diapers and noticed their skinny legs wouldn’t fit right but thanks to this it’s perfect now! 🥰
Thank you for all the videos on cloth diapers! You've given me the confidence to do it! I just ordered my bundle today!!
Thank you so much! I'm new to cloth diapering (day 3) and have over 40 diapers and didn't know how to use them lol. You helped me out A LOT!
Thank you for being the guiding light for my adventure of cloth diapering! ❤️
glad its been helpful!
Thank you! Concise and straight to the point, much appreciated.
Coming back for baby #2 as he approaches 8 weeks and we start cloth diapers! Thank you so much, this is SUCH a great video!!!! 💙💙💙
Thank you!!!!! I needed to see the all in one size could reasonably fit a newborn before buying! Appreciate you and your sweet baby girl 💞
Oh my goodness! Thank you! I’ve been wondering how to do this for a while now.
She’s such s great model, so cute 💕
Cindy Skaikay she was uncharacteristically cooperative! 😂thanks!
Thank you so much. I got a bunch of diapers yesterday that I thought I wouldn’t be able to use for months. I really appreciate this. God bless you!
There is actually a much easier hack for newborn
thanks for this technique! I literally just got out of bed to go change over to this technique and teach it to my wife as I think we were just pulling things too tight on our 7.5 lb 7 week old baby girl(preemie). this seemed to work and feels much more "right" than what we had been doing. 😊
Fingers crossed it works for ya! And congrats on your little girl!!
Thank you soooo much for this. My daughter uses the Alva covers, mostly, but this works for those, too! Awesomeness!
happy nanny congrats on your little one!!
Thank you so much for this! We have a ton of OS Alvas and we're starting to run out of the newborn disposables we got at our shower; this is exactly what we needed to know to start using the Alvas while our baby's still small. Thanks again!!
Hope it helps! congrats on your little one!
What a great hack! I love it. Its awesome when you can use diapers longer than normal.
Thanks! Super jealous of people who have little ones who can immediately get into these! Mine was such a peanut
Love you🥰 I have only a handful of the newborn ones, and a bunch of the regular ones. This is super great 👍 thank you!
I just got my Alvas in the mail yesterday and regretted buying them for my little guy who is almost 9lbs... I'm so glad I found this hack...so easy and (yay!) now these new diapers will be getting plenty of use. Thank you so much for this! And OMG... what a sweet baby! Those feet are way too cute, and not a peep out of her!
Fingers crossed this works for you! Congratulations on your new babe!!! It was also the quietest she's ever been in her entire life 😂
This definitely works! It worked for Alva and a bunch of some other pocket diapers we bought that I just couldn't resist the prints for! Thank you again! (and hooray for teensy baby feet!)
Your cloth diaper videos have been so so helpful. My firstborn was 6lb10 at birth but she was over 10.5lbs at a month old so I definitely dont want to invest in a newborn stash I will only be able to use for a month or two. Definitely bookmarking this for my November baby!
What?! How did you pump your baby up that much in a month?!
This was so helpful. I have a one week old and a time of Alva baby cloth diapers and had no idea what to do with all these buttons. Thank you for sharing!! 👌🏾🙌🏾
I'm so glad it was helpful for you and your little one!
Omg so glad I found this video. I am new to cloth diapering and baby is due at the end of April. I bought a huge stash of OS Alvas before I realized that because we may have another small baby, Alvas and most OS diapers may not fit for a while. So thank you! I'm definitly going to go practice.
So glad this may help you! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Will do thank you!
Thank you so much! Due in 2 weeks and this will be soooo helpful! You rock!
Congratulations on your incoming little!
Love it!! thank you so much i've been waiting for this video. it was really helpful
glad it was helpful!
She so cute with her stretching her feet ! Thank you so much for your help. First time using them.
So glad it was helpful!
Thanks Nurse Liz! I just tried the newborn hack with flour sack and hemp inserts (from your other video). It works wonderfully.
I'm so glad!!!
You're my new hero. 💜
Thank you so much!!! I've never used cloth diapers before Baby is about 6 months but I want to start right away with the next one.
I thought I'd have to buy a bunch of newborn diapers so this has me (and my wallet!) really excited.
Definitely cheaper if it works out!!
Thanks for this video! Easy to follow and I can actually use my Alvas with my 9 lbs newborn. Yay! I also have that diaper cover.
Awesome!!
Thank you!! SO HELPFUL
Thank you!!! Newborn is 2 weeks old and im struggeling with leaks! Will try this right now
You're a life saver . Thank you for that video.
glad it was helfpul!
OMG thank you so much!! My little guys stump keeps getting wet and really didn't want to buy disposal diapers but didn't want his stump to get infected!! I'm so glad I found this.
Mylona Atchison congrats on your new little one!! Hope this works for him!
Nurse Liz tried it this morning and it sits way lower! So I think this will work, it now sits at his stump instead of at his chest
Mylona Atchison good! That’s a definite improvement 😂
Such a cool hack! Wish I had found this sooner!
Also this helped so much!!
This even LOOKS cuter!!! Love it omg thank you for this vid. Gonna save it
Excited to give this a go, Thank You 👌🏻😍👶🏻
hope it works for you!
Thank you so much!
OMG! THANK YOU!!! 💜
Life saver!! Thank you
thank you!!!!
Lifesaverrrr!!!!
Thank you!
Wow thanks so much. This is very helpful!
I’m so glad !
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Much needed.
So glad it helped!
Lifesaver ❤
Thank you SO MUCH
This was the best video!!! You've helped us immensely.
I'm so glad!
thanks for this hack. due in april and i have a bunch of alvas around from my older child, wanted to cd from day one but didnt want to buy newborn diapers. was going to pick up some prefolds but can probably avoid this for now.
Congrats on your new little!
Thank you soooo much for this hack! New to cloth and my LO is due June 6th. Alva OS are super affordable and I was wondering how I could make them work for newborn!
They are SO affordable and cute! It was definitely a life saver to be able to get her into them early. Congrats on your little one! Let me know if you have other questions :)
Thank you so much! I def will :) I just subscribed for all other hacks & it's good to connect with another nurse here on YT! I was just watching the "how to wash your washer" video because today I wondered... how do I clean this thing?! Lol! Ours was given to us and I never thought about cleaning it until today!
Yay for nursing love! I just got hooked up with yours as well :) and I totally feel you on the washer. I literally was horrified when I realized you were supposed to clean it and I had already owned the house for 2+ years haha. it was FOUL.
😂 I love it!!! I can tell you work with kids… you moving her like a fake doll but… only a 2nd or more time mom understands a baby is super flexible and movable 😆 🥰🥰
Thank you!! :)
Thank you!!!
❤️
Thanks for this hack! Which inserts did you use?
Thank you! I have a ton of Alva diapers and haven't been able to use any because of the huge gap in the legs!
Alva’s are definitely rough with skinny legged babies, but hopefully this can give you some extra life out of them!
Thank you for the video! I bought only Alvas and now I'm stressing because baby is small (15th percentile) and probably won't fit them for a long while! You suggested somewhere around 8 lbs for her to start fitting (pending her unique size)... I think baby will be closer to 7 when she comes out so I will probably have some time to go with disposables first :( But this is very helpful because looking at my stash I was wondering exactly what kind of creature I was going to birth (the diapers looking quite big)!
hahaha oh man. "what creature I was going to birth" made me laugh. I used disposables for the first month with my daughter because I was just trying to survive haha. and they are definitely easier. We switched at one month and she was a little bigger, making it perfect! And I found a few brain cells at that point as well lol. Congrats on your soon to be little one!
Heck yes im going to try this cause i only have like 5 newborn ones and my baby was born 7lbs 11 oz and im so done with disposable diapers
Thank you i have 32 alva's and I was going to get alva newborn now I can still get alva newborn but I do not have to get many as I was going to get thank you so so so so much!!
Nick Thomm glad it was helpful! Congrats on your new little 😊
Thankyou for this awesome channel! This was the exact video I was looking for. One question, do you stuff them before or after sizing them down???
I stuff them after sizing them down!
Wow, I wish I saw this a week ago lol I ended up buying 18 of the Newborn Alvas cus the regular size were HUGE on my 9lb newborn. My problem is the newborn Alva pockets are so small it’s very difficult to stuff and I can only fit one liner inside which means the other goes on the outside but I can’t have microfiber against my babies skin so here I am watching this feeling like a dumb dumb while I cut fleece liners to protect my baby from the microfiber liners -.-
Not dumb at all! When they are little it is tricky. Congrats on your little!
💕🌹 Lovely couples 💖 Vijay nagaveni 💗 masthan silpa 🌹❤️
Just tried this on my 1 month old who is about 7 lbs now & waist almost fits, slightly loose but the leg holes are still so big.
Where did you get the flower change mat cover from? The one that is in the thumbnail? It’s so beautiful!
It’s a Burt’s bees cover with little bees on it. I just checked on amazon and they don’t have it anymore 😩.
Thank you so much for your help! I only have one question and that is what do you do when they still have their umbilical cord? Is there a way to either snap them down or fold them down?
there's not an easy way to fold it down unfortunately. I didn't use cloth with either of my newborns though so I'm not sure! I started around 3-4 weeks
Thank you this is genius! I already passed my due date so expecting a larger newborn like my other kids and want to avoid buying a newborn stash.
I'll try that my daughter is a small baby and the Alvas I love them but she had tiny legs
What inserts do you use? Bamboo, microfiber, 3/4/5 layer, etc? And do you need to put more than 1 for the newborn stage?
My go to is a flower sack towel! I do use micro fiber ones but usually add something else to them such as a bamboo or a small microfiber. I use 5 layer bamboo as a booster when I need some extra absorption. And I looove thirstiest hemp inserts for nighttime paired with a flour sack towel. So absorbent!
My bub is about 12 pound now. Been doing it like this thanks to your video! Once they are ready to be a bit 'looser' fit, would you move the leg hip snap to the next snap up from the 'lowest'?
When my daughter moved out of this fit we just went to the smallest setting and rise that is "traditionally" used with these.
Would you use the same size inserts for a newborn or would I need to buy some newborn inserts still? Thanks! Sorry, I am way new to cloth diapers and trying to do it on a budget :)
Melissa Houck you can absolutely just use regular inserts! Just fold them over so they aren’t as long :) that’s what I did and it worked just fine! Also if your looking for affordable inserts, check out flour sack towels. I have a video about those as well. They are super cheap and absorbent! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Thank you Nurse Liz. What kind of insert do you use of these diapers ? Also , do you know if you can stuff these with a prefold instead of a microfiber insert for extra absorption specially at night time ?
I use a flour sack towel, you could try a predilection! It just might be too big
Do we need to fold the inserts by any chance or we just put them in as usual
How many would you recommend for newborn if used full time and how many inserts
Hi I’m just starting out on cloth diapers and I bought the Alva baby pocket diapers, they come with microfiber inserts and I hear that those are not good by themselves. I’m doing so much research and can’t find the answer. Is there any insert that I can use by itself in the pocket diaper with no leaking issues. It’s just that I don’t want the diaper to be bulky during the day. Tnx!
Might’ve have been easier to see with a solid color Alva baby diaper! 👍
Is it okay to use the 5 layer bamboo charcoal insert for the newborn baby? Cause it looks too big for them.
Is there another video showing how to stuff the diapers while in the newborn hack snaps? Cloth diapering newbie here, my baby girl has very sensitive skin, got cloth diapers to avoid having to keep buying expensive disposable diapers/wipes
I used flour sack towels. They were convenient because you could just fold them into the shape that you needed.
do you happen to know why the Alva baby website says "60 times washable" on the diaper description?? Have you found those wear out more than other brands you use?
I've definitely washed them more than 60 times. I had to replace the elastics at the two year mark, which was similar to my mamakoala brand.
Do you have a review on the Alva Newborn size? I heard them mentioned in the video. I can’t find any solid reviews and have a stash of 30 for my daughter due soon.
Kimberly Rosa hey sorry I don’t! I didn’t use any newborn diapers. Congrats on your almost arrived bundle of love!!
Wow..useful one... But what abt the inserts you are using here... Bamboo charcoal seems to be very big for new born... Which insert will suit for new born? Please suggest
I have a newborn at the moment and am using just one flour Sack Towel folded inside and its working quite well!
Does this hack work on the covers ?
I had to be induced a week early cause my baby was too small he was born 5lbs 12oz we left the hospital at 5lbs 7oz and at his 5 day appointment he weighed 5lbs 13oz I feel like he's too small for the os alva 😭
Im havent had my baby yet and am new to cloth diapering. Do the regulat inserts still go in like normal or do i need to buy smaller inserts?
you can buy smaller inserts or just fold down your larger ones
Nurse Liz okay, thank you for the response! :) very useful video
I'm new to reusable nappies. How many wraps would I need for newborn and how many inserts. What's best inserts to prevent nappy blowouts or leaking?
I really like flour sack towels folded up as newborn inserts! Newborns usually use 12 ish diapers a day.
What do you do when they still have the umbilical cord attached?
When did you start cloth diapering your newborn? :) thank you!
When she was 4 weeks old
Thank youuuu :)
Idk what I’m doing wrong! My baby girl is two months old and weighs 9.7lbs. I tried this hack and I still have a gap. I’m so confused. I just want to be able to use my diapers. Maybe her legs are still too skinny?
It seems like this would work with fuzzibunz too!?
I'm not familiar with their diapers but I"m sure it can be used on any with this type of snap!
Is it normal to still have a ton of fabric on top? I still have to fold it over.
Is this using the regular inserts as well? or do you need newborn inserts? thanks in advance.
I use a flour sack towel for when they are this little, sometimes with one newborn insert as well if needed.
I have followed the instructions, but there still appears to be over flow and is quite tight around her belly thou just ok around her legs, please help I'm worried about hurting her belly
My little boy is 3 months old and 14lbs and alva still dont fit him its so loose around his legs
Can you do a newborn hack for the mama koala?
I'm not sure. Mama Koala fit smaller so they didn't require modification by the time she was 8 lb which is when we started.
Hi what do you do if you want to avoid rubbing on the umbilical cord? Thank you!
On some babies it may be low enough to not rub, But I didnt use cloth for the first month due to the chaos haha
@@NurseLiz thank you! did you use disposable for the first month? Maybe I'll use prefolds in the Alva one size... Not sure if ours will fit 😅
We did use disposables the first month
I can't get this to work for us. He's 9 pounds but has the tiniest legs. He's still on the tightest leg snaps on a newborn diaper.
How do you make it work with the umbilical cord?
I don't think this would give clearance for the umbilical cord. I used disposables for both of mine until their cords fell off.
Will this work before the umbilical stump falls off?
Is it okay if theirs a bit of a thigh gap?
Do people still use two pad inserts for small / newborn babies? The pads seem to make the diaper so big. But not sure we can get away with one?
For newborns I used 1 flour sack towel folded up and thats it!
Does this work under the umbilical cord stump in the super early days?
I'm not sure! We didn't use cloth for the first few weeks to save our sanity haha. I think it would depend on the baby.
@@NurseLiz Thanks for your response!
How does this look with the umbilical cord?
I never used cloth when mine still had an umbilical chord, because we always did disposables for the first month while we acclimated to our new human
