    Liz, bless you for making this video! I am new to cloth diapering - my little boy is just over 1 and we are expecting a little girl in April. I have been so nervous about cloth diapering a toddler and a baby at once! I feel a million times better now. And also, thank you for mentioning AlvaBaby diapers as MANY cloth diaper advocates poo-poo on that brand but I've really been liking them (and the price!) so far, so it is a relief to know that a veteran cloth user is pro-Alva :)

    I found you a year or so ago because of your cloth diaper video haha, I’m not in the medical field at all but find all your content very informative...I’m jealous that your bumgenius diapers are holding up great! I bought a stash of about 10 as seconds from their site and every single one had stretched elastics! Live and learn I guess! Once I’m able to find elastic a friend is going to replace them for me. A lot of our “cheaper” diapers are holding up so much better. We’re gearing up to cloth diaper #2 with a newborn stash first but have about 30ish one size. Once he grows out of the newborn it’s good to know that 40ish will be good for two babies.

    Hi Liz! Your videos are always so helpful and positive- you're right, there are a lot of INTENSE blogs, videos, etc. out there. Really needed the "you're doing great!" thrown in there today :)
    I have been trying plant-based detergent (7th generation ultra power plus) and am not so sure it's doing the job. I am strongly considering switching to Tide powder as well, just to stress less about the wash routine. As a medical professional, do you have any qualms about the ingredients in Tide being up against your baby's sensitive diaper area? (This is by no means a question to 'come at you', I'm genuinely interested). Also, how much Tide do you use? Again-so much info out there!
    I've been CDing for about 1 month and am hoping I maybe can get away with switching to Tide without stripping.
    Thanks!!

    My son outpeed huggies overnights half the time. It was so horrible. The only bulletproof option for us was a Twinkie Tush Night Night fitted with a fleece cover. Fleece is just as good as wool. It took me 18 months to find that setup though. Every recommended night diaper failed except that one.

    Probably a very silly question... we’ve been cloth diapering for maybe 6 weeks now and it’s been going GREAT. I’ve been too scared to do overnight, but I’m ready to give it a shot. When you “sandwich” together different inserts, what order do layer them in? Do you fold them into the FST? Layer on top of FST? On bottom? There’s a distinct possibility I am overthinking this and it doesn’t even matter.
    Love your CD videos!!!! They’ve helped me more than any other videos or blogs.

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  4 роки тому +1

      I layer them! But you could experiment with both types. I found it bulkier for some reason when they were sandwiched.

    1. How did you wash your first kid when you got your diapers? People have ordered me cloth diapers for my baby shower and I have read a lot of different things on hot/ cold water and number of washes. 2. I know you have a newborn Alva hack and I plan on doing it but I noticed in this video you mentioned you started when they were one month old. Do you recommend disposable diapers until a month? Or was it due to baby size?

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  4 роки тому +2

      congratulations on your little one! I used fluff love university's wash index to get an idea of where to start with my wash routine, and have messed with it a bit since then. But its a good place to start! I use hot water and 2 washes. We started with both at 4 weeks because even with the alva hack, my girls were on the smaller end and didn't fit until they were a few weeks old. It didn't make sense to me to buy a bunch of newborn diapers when we only needed them for 4 weeks when they would fit in the regular ones! So we just did disposable. Also life is so overwhelming those first few weeks we just wanted to make things as easy as possible

    Hey Liz! Love your videos! Very helpful. Do you put in 2 microfiber inserts and a flour sack towel insert on a newborn?
    If not could you tell how you changed your inserts as your children grow? Thank you so much!!

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  3 роки тому

      On a newborn I'd just do a FST and a super thin microfiber. Then, when they seem to be wetting through that, that's when I bump them up to the next absorbency level.

    Hi, Liz!
    I am about one month into cloth diapering our daughter part time (we use disposables at night).
    One thing I am curious about is how you managed the clothing babies wear over cloth diapers. Do you have any tips or advice on what types of outfits/brands fit well over larger fluffy diapers?

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  4 роки тому

      We have mostly used target and walmart brands! Carters usually. We have sized up sometimes. But my girls are super petite so I'm not much help here bcause they've fit into their traditional sizes a lot.

    First off, THANK YOU for these videos! Yours are by far the best videos on cloth diapering that I have found! I wanted to wait until I'd seen them all to ask this question in case you answered it in another video but I think I've done that now and haven't seen it (or somehow missed it). You've referenced several times that you started cloth diapering from one month on but I was wondering if you could elaborate on that a little. Is it to avoid buying a whole nother set of smaller cloth diapers or more just a convenience thing since the newborn stage is already so demanding? The Alva diapers I've seen look like they fit babies from 6.6 lbs - 33 which theoretically could accommodate a newborn (unless they had a lower birth weight, of course) so I was just wondering what your thoughts are. Thanks again!

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  2 роки тому

      I'm so glad they've been helpful! And yeah, basically, I didn't want to have to buy extra newborn ones. Some diapers can be "hacked" into newborn diapers from small littles, but it just didn't make sense for us to buy both newborn and regular diapers.

    ***IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE***
    Careful in the pool! Swim diapers are designed to be less absorpent because an absorbent wet diaper is a HEAVY diaper, and could weigh the baby down. Not a problem if you're holding the baby carefully the whole time you're in/by the pool, but if your baby is learning to swim, use a swim diaper.

    That potty training thing is sooooo strange to me. We don't do that where I'm from. We wait till Baby tells us they prefer the toilet. If they are able, unprompted, to tell us they wanna go pee or poop, and keep that up for around a week, that's when we stop the diapers. We train no one. So far no one has been 15yo and incontinent...

      Most people cloth diaper so waiting doesn't add on the cost. It doesn't really add on the mom's work load because we live with extended family and there's always someone (aunt, cousin, in laws) willing to change Baby. Most Babies spontaneously use the toilet alone by 3yo, 3.5yo...

      @@NurseLiz I have a 14 week old and we used disposables until he grew out of newborn diapers. It was nice to get breastfeeding figured out, heal a bit and settle in before figuring out cloth diapers and a wash routine. We've been handed down partial packs of disposable diapers in various sizes and we use them when I wait a bit too long to wash the diapers or if we're out and about (a rare thing these days) and I forget to pack an extra cloth diaper. Yeah, I completely disagree about your brand recommendations. Mk are cute but not the best fit. My elf are still going strong 2 years later but my BG all relaxed.
    Alva are a workhorse but I don't like their snaps. So I stick with elf, happy beehinds perfect fit, mk, and hybrid fitteds namely binky d and rebel bottoms

      so much cheaper, better for the planet, and my first daughter has really sensitive skin that didn't agree with disposables.

    Help!!!!! My daughter had some exposed sore spots on her bum from starting solids... i read that bourdoux butt paste was safe for cloth diapers.. but i just washed them.. and its all still on the diapers!!!! Please tell me i didnt ruin my diapers!!!

      Hey! Was it the green butt paste? That one can sometimes discolor the diapers but won’t affect their absorption. The stains should fade with a few washes! If it was the other kind, or the stains don’t fade, you can scrub them with some dawn dish soap and it’ll fix them!
