Take it panel by panel ,don't over think it .Use high build primer skim coat it with filler block , prime, guide coat ,sand.Take it one panel at a time.
It is what it is at least your honest enough to show what the real condition of the car is before paint you're not hiding a thing I think you will like the high build primer paint the car and enjoy it it's your car not there's
Thanks... definitely not hiding a thing... I bought that car to show what it was and to show the journey to what it's going to be... we'll see how it goes... I'm working hard on it... 😊
You got a lot of energy Frank. Paint and body work is a nightmare on an old car.Been working on a 67 Cutlass over 10 years and still not near done. Now 72 and getting tired.🍺✌️
0:12 I did a 70 Torino just as bad with 3 coats of 2k primer with hardener, sanded it with 180 and did 2 more coats of 2 k primer and filled it all in,
Sounds like you know the pain of never ending sanding... not fun but I can see light at end of this dark tunnel... I think it's going to be pretty good looking ol' dart... anyway I love the Torinos! I had a 70' 429 in that thing.... it ran fabulous ... 😊
@@frankrizzo3922 l have 9 classic cars I've bought up over the years to restore and sell, but I restore classic cars for other people just finished a 80 Bronco Alot of rust repair, l make all my own panels, but I learned early on the benefits of 2 k primer, you will be surprised how much you can fill in with it, that icing filler isn't cheap and everything l saw in your vedio could be filled in with 2 k primer, but get the 2 k with hardener, and don't do more than 3 coats at a time and sand flat and spray again, about 15O dollars a gallon with the hardener and would do that whole dart project, give it a good etch to grab onto,, 180 grit on the bare metal surface and 320 after sanding the first 3 coats works well for me, give it a few days before painting it will shink, l always use it with any body filler repair now saves alot of guide coat time,
@@frankrizzo3922 one more thing before you apply the 2k primer brush on some Rust-Oleum rust desolver and let sit overnight it will remove all the rust and save you have to sand it off and then give it a good etch with 180 for the 2k to grab on the bare metal and build up 3 coats letting it flash off between, the sand it flat with 320 and build it up again with 2 k,, and let it dry atleast 24 hours as it will shink and final sand with 400 before your paint always useing a block.
Can't wait to see the high build primer your going to use... There are products out there you can use to kill the rust in the pits..like 3Ms rust mort.. And phosphoric acid...and tannic acid like in corroseal.. Me I like a two part etching primer after rust treatment then an epoxy sealer.. Did my 72 dart engine bay like that 8 years going sitting in a non heated shed no rust at all... 3Ms G2 high build is good stuff... But stay away from Slick Sand.
How did the headliner turn out? Im sure it looks much better now, That pitting would suck filling all of them by hand. That would take forever but that spraying that stuff on sounds like the way to go , just lay it down thick and sand it to a nice slick finish cant wait to see how it turns out. The car definitely landed in good hands, most ppl wouldn't fix it and finish it like you're doing, they would dump it on someone else and so on till it ended up in the junk yard wasted away unfortunately
Headliner is definitely better.. can't say it's perfect but was my first attempt... I'll probably have to take it somewhere and watch exactly how they'll improve.... anyway thanks for asking...
I bought a black 63 dart once ..at night.. in the rain! Talk about getting yourself into a mess..So ummm ya.. feel ya. BUT! the blue interior is looking freaking fantastic so far.
The deep pits I’d fill with metal to metal Rest I’d use 3 hood every coats of epoxy 2k primer Sand that down 3 coats of Good 2k fill primer You should be good to go

Exactly, person can get overwhelmed looking at entire issue
Just focus on one panel move forward

Sorry use a 1.7 tip for 2 k primer a 1.3 won't give you enough build
7:40 you can buy spray body filler works very well it's basically like spraying on filler
I'll have to ask my local paint shop about that! Thanks

Great advice! Thanks, and no slick sand for me is right... I'll do a video and we'll see how it looks after it's sealed..
Rust pits stink. I ended up sand blasting the roof of my 300 it was all pitted up from the vinyl top.
Vinyl top look nice but many rusted roofs as a result once the vehicles gets old....

Hey, its 54 years old !!!!
Exactly 💯.... ol' 6cyl dart nobody cared much about.... till I came along... lol
UA-cam has too many thinking they have to be perfect and spend a fortune, you don't.
I know your right... I just hope my time on that ol' dart is worth it...
