- While civil society applauds the government's efforts to amend the Federal Constitution to grant citizenship to children born overseas to Malaysian mothers, the proposed amendments include unexpected changes that could exacerbate Malaysia's statelessness issue.
How will these proposed amendments impact the people on the ground, and do they truly have the best interests of the children at heart?

thank you for covering this important topic! only seen it from R.AGE so far. so sly for the government to push these harmful amendments behind the much publicised overseas children born to Malaysian mothers amendments
Thanks, but we do believe other news organisations have written about this as well. Perhaps we're lucky to have a platform here on UA-cam to put out more video-based content that reaches a different audience... Anyway, thanks again for the kind comment.
Thank you for sharing your stories. Thank you for covering their stories. I hope future parents will be aware of how their actions can impact their kids.
Thanks for your kind comment as well. We're thankful that Melissa and Akasha had the courage to share their stories as well.
As long as you're born in Malaysia, you should automatically given Malaysian citizen.. So many stateless in Sabah.. They're Born and grown up in Sabah and never step foot outside of Sabah.. They deserved Malaysian citizenship
Hopefully all those eligible stateless people will fairly get to be malaysian. They can contribute to pay taxes and top up local work force to boost our slow economy after pandemic.
Sad
Government operate base on race base again. Other races very difficult and can't get PR. Making overseas marriage and return couples or International Couples very difficult to get PR. My uncle (British Citizens been marriage now 85 years over live in Malaysia without PR. Marriage Chinese my aunty local Malaysians from young 26 years old now 85 years (pass away) cannot get PR. Its so disappointed and racism unethical.
Ms majority of those stateless people are 'Malay' by race which discredit your comment. Its not about race its about govt ineptitude. Plus, would you or society want to pay extra taxes to help pay for their integration and etc? Don't just talk la, use your brain as well. If your uncle who've lived so long in the country but have not gotten PR then its something wrong with him la.
2:36 so? why blame the gov and the laws for ur own blunder? most of these stateless parents especially mother sees malaysia as crap, and want opportunity to be, say , american. but when sh*t happened and they got a divorce or something, they want to be back to malaysia that they view as crap in the 1st place.
if the parent is a responsible person and register and does everything accordingly, these wont happen. u guys dont want to register because u hate malaysia, and when things happen u try to show sad face and play victim. yes poor kids, but the parents fault
Lmao agree
Pendatang asing 4 billion tu kasi settle dulu
tu nak settle apa ? bila pendatang tu sampai ? if pendatang tu datang with legal permit u nak settle apa ??
kalau tak layak dpt ic... tak layak lah....
Yeah good, its better this way. If one is given easily, there will be more vying for the citizenship. The china mainland ‘tourist’, rohingya, bangladesh and more will start asking for it. Be grateful that you can still live in malaysia lol.
Those tourists are another story. They were born in their country, so they definitely won’t get an ID card. The issue now is, what if a Malaysian mother and an Indonesian father have a child? If the father passed away during the pandemic, what will happen to the child's future? If you want to involve the father, you’d have to think about bringing him back to his home country, but that’s not possible since he’s already passed away.
