- Our two new arrival baby Hansa and Kham Lah, Hansa never get train before, when she arrive at our project she push every one who come next to her. Darrick spend time to make her familiar with her new mahout and her new home. You can see today she think Darrick is her daddy. She run follow him every where, Even when Darrick work in the field she also seeking him at Elephant Nature Park ,Thailand.

This explains the tremendous bond between Darrick and Khamla and her herd, to this day! I am so happy this showed up again in my feed as I had forgotten seeing Khamla as a baby! The two elephant whisperers, Lek and Darrick, who shower elephants with the love they deserve! Jazz and ellies, what can be better! It’s heaven for all, not just elephants!

True, but every job has some really shitty aspects. This job has much more natural perks, like spending quality time with elephants, getting your daily exercise without needing a gym membership, and making the world a better place. Probably doesn't pay well, though, which is a big factor.

I think elephants genuinely like our company. Not like they prefer us to other elephants but I think they find us interesting/amusing and enjoy our pats and scratches 🙂

Marieda Parellio All species can share love, but it's not easy. A handler who prods or uses a stick to handle an animal, does not understand that that animal can not truly love them. If you where fed every day and given a bath by someone, but at the same time, is forcing you to perform with cruelty and making you live in a very confined space with no freedom at all, how much love would you feel for that person? Now you might say animals don't think that way, and I agree, they don't. They don't think that way, they feel that way, they react that way. I believe that is why experts are always shocked to here about an animal that was hand fed as a baby and expertly trained for years, could kill their handlers, or anyone at all. I have not heard of an animal, that had a very special bond with it's owner or handler, where the animal is free to roam in nature for a considerable amount of time, treated with respect and love, never with cruelty and imprisonment, kill their handler. It is becoming more and more understood, that animals treated with cruelty and kept in a small cell, or any cell, for that matter, will, at some point, become insane, just like a human would.
carol m That is totally different than what i am talking about. I don't think the mother bites and kicks to have that animal perform unnatural tricks and confines that animal in a small space, again another unnatural behavior. The mother disciplines, but i am sure she shows love as well.
Any animal confined in a very small space for a long time, will show signs of metal illness.
humans prefer animals to humans so why can't animals prefer humans to animals?

I am so sorry for your loss of sweet little baby Hansa and Darrick most of all will miss her. Please thank him for bringing happiness to Hansa before she died. I sincerely hope that baby Navann doesn't have the virus as well. He is such a happy baby! I commend you all for the hard work you do. Elephant Nature Park was the first elephant sanctuary to save elephants for love instead of profit and I sincerely thank you!

I am heartbroken that baby Hansa passed away :( I hope Navann is able to overcome the virus. These precious animals deserve to live long, happy lives.

Kham Lah full grown and leader of a big family now and they all have a bond with Darrick like Faa Mai and Lek have since both were raised from babies with constant attention.

After having such friends. I think so nobody needs any other friends. They look happy and complete together. Give me just sometime with them I will be happy throughout my life.
This the joyful part of the elephant rescue work. I cant imagine the pain and suffering these elephant rescuers have seen these beauties going through before they bring them home. Some have suffered so much for decades. Bless all the people who rescue animals.

Stuck between laaarge and slightly less large elephant, I would have mildly freaked out. I'm amazed at how calm the adults are. They could swat him like a fly, if they felt the little ones were threatened or even spoiled too much.
