I had a boyfriend back in 1985 that looked like a twin to Jim Kerr. He had the same face. He also had a Scottish last name. It was the reason that I became a Simple Minds fan. 😂 Cheers from Canada ! 🇨🇦
Dunno about you, but it just does not seem so long ago. Its not until I start counting my finger and toes, then another fingers and toes, that I realise, its 35 years ago.. Where did the time go.
Don't You Forget About Me was the song that first introduced me to Simple Minds in 1985. I thought they were a new band, and when Once Upon A Time came out, I was disappointed that Don't You wasn't on it. But I heard a couple songs on the radio up in Rhode Island from OUAT - Alive & Kicking, Sanctify Yourself. I decided to buy the cassette tape, and was blown away by the entire album. I went back to the record store a few weeks later, and noticed that Simple Minds had all these other albums. I decided to buy the weirdest looking one (to me) - Sons and Fascination. I remember hearing the opening track 'In Trance as Mission' and thinking how different it was from what was on OUAT. Then I realized that this band was something special. That was when they became my favorite band.
Thanks for commenting and sharing your memories Jesse. With luck Jim might see your comment and reply, members of many big bands are subscribed to this YT channel.
He is a great guy. Being a mad SM fan I strolled up to his house after finding out where he lived back in 1990 (long story) and rang his doorbell. He chatted to me and signed my Street Fighting Years book. He was a gent, I'll never forget it.
@@pameladiamond9603 Whoa, you _were_ mad! 😀 Closest I came to that was accompanying my friend to see U2 when we heard an interview on a radio station, and my friend suggested we go to the station (the concert was in SF as was the radio station). This was during the War tour, so U2 weren't yet superstars, and you could also do things like walk into radio stations, so we did. The receptionist was friendly, and we asked her if it'd be possible to meet Edge. She called someone and then sent us back to where the interview was taking place. We looked into the tinted glass and saw him chatting with the DJ. About 10 minutes later, he came walking out, and I can't lie... I was starstruck (was a _huge_ fan of the War album and of Edge's innovative guitar style). He was extremely polite and easy-going, but my friend did most of the talking since I was a bit verklempt. After we chatted a few minutes, his handler came out and interrupted us, sweeping Edge away, but Edge was kind enough to turn around and shake our hands and thank us. Just a really cool bloke. But going to someone's _house?!_ You win the "mad contest" 😄. Great that Jim didn't treat you like you were mad.
@@BassByTheBay Yeh he probably thought I was mad. Had my Simple Minds tea shirt on as well lol. Don't get me wrong I was bricking it, legs like jelly but I knew I would regret it if I didn't. My sister was with me and took a photo which I still have in a frame to this day. I visited their old recording studios when they had it at Lochearnhead in Perthshire but sadly no one was there. Did get a peek through the windows though. They sold this in the mid nineties and it's now a house. Great U2 story, had a couple of albums but wasn't that overly keen on them although I do think Bono has a great voice. I have loved Simple Minds since the early mid eighties and have seem them live in every decade apart from when they started in the late 70's as I was a little too young and hadn't discovered them yet. Being a Scot I am a bit biased but I have always thought they were so underrated as a band, their early stuff is pure genius.🎵🎵😀
@@pameladiamond9603 Yeah, I saw SM a few times, but just in the '80s. They sounded great -- loved their drummer! I absolutely wore out the Sparkle and NGD albums. "Up On The Catwalk" is still one of my all-time fave songs. Had a tape with the remix version and used to blast it in my car... with the windows down, of course. 😄
The very first tracks i heard: Waterfront 12" and on B-Side "Hunter and the Hunted live", wihich is an absolutely dramatic version. The one on the studio album is very soft and atmospharic. These pieces have accompanied my life. I still hear them today. Damn loud in the car. My buddy lent me the record back then. Yes, he discovered the band. I am still grateful to him for that.
@dfangirl72 I'm Brazilian, I grew up learning American English, but the Scottish accent is something else. It's AMAZING! I always get super excited when I find out someone famous is Scottish, so I can hear this beautiful accent ❤ love Craig, too. It's so warm. Like a hug in the soul hahaha can't explain.
Like Jim said, if they would have included it, the album would have sold millions more but the the band thought the song did not fit in with the essence of O.U.A.T and it's songs and themes. I totally agree with him. Hope that helped ,✌️
100% that the Broadcast date is June 1985. It was probably filmed a few weeks before broadcast. All my videotapes have a paper insert, on which I detail exactly what is on the tape, band name, tv show, date of broadcast and running time, I always did this. There was the odd occasion when I got a day wrong, but overall 99% of the detail I took at the time is accurate.
Sure it is 1985, he is talking about being a father. Yasmin is born in March 1985. His haircut isn't very 1985 though, between the video Don't You and Live Aid he visited his hairdresser.

@@papeandomusica Glad you enjoyed this, great to hear from a viewer in Brazil.
That accent...absolute
He is sooooo cute 😍
After all these years, it's the first time I hear Jim Kerr talking.
I have a far longer interview from the same year, where Jim rambles on for 45mins
Same for me. I had no idea he had that accent in his talking voice. Scottish? Irish?
@@manp1039 I can't believe you've asked that Question. What country is the city of Glasgow in? That's your answer.
Brilliant and charismatic guy.

One of the music industry's most fascinating identities. A 100% pure Scotsman through and through. A unique intellect.
I had this on vhs and my house got broken into and it got nicked with the vhs player.
I’ve not seen this for 30,years. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it Robert
Such a great philosofer ( I know I spelled that wrong.. lol), Jim was brilliant and still is! thanks for your insight, sir.
Been a SM fan since New Gold Dream but never saw an interview till now. Thanks for posting this; Jim seems like a good guy.
I have a few more interviews with Jim still to come. Thanks for watching

Absolut deiner Meinung, hier ist es das selbe: Diese Live-Version beamt mich wieder zurück ins Jahr 1984.
What a fantastic UA-cam channel. Enjoyed the Max Headroom at the end too.
Thank you, for truly watching until the very end and spotting Max Headroom.

Thank you!
You're welcome!
I have been enjoying Muriel Gray's interviews.
She was not bad, certainly an intelligent lady.
She was always an excellent interviewer, certainly a cut above her contemporaries.
Yeah. Sooo cute, intelligent man ❤❤❤
Great to see your subs count up 🍻👍🏼
Good job people.. Good job.
Thanks 👍
'Joo-ran Joo-ran', that's the way I always pronounced their name, I've only heard it from we Scots.
Glasgow Rock Gods ....

Nice shoes jimbo 😆
Breakfast Club introduces me Simply Minds albuns. ❤
"The band put it in a computer, and it came up with this track": Kerr predicting A.I. 39 years ago.
6:17 maybe if he insults the Midwesterners, they will listen to his music more
Simple Minds peaked in 1983...end of!!!!
Agreed.
What a load of shit

Mid-eighties Govan. Hmmm.
10:10 no wonder Chrissie Hynde had her deliciously wicked way with him
I wasn't really into Chrissie and was a bit surprised they'd been together but don't blame her he's so awkwardly adorable playing with his jacket .
Socks with sandals? :O
Lovely🤣
Thought he was Irish. 1st time hearing him speaking.
Are you sure it's 1985? It seems like 1984

DYFAM was released in '85.
It's only a year apart how can u tell the difference 🤣
His politics absolutely stank as I recall 💩
Music in the 80s was great but the fashion not.
Agreed
It's the best, let's go!
Gay shoes
Unfortunately, many musicians are gay.
and?
I love Glasgow. Especially on good coke. 😊
