I have been a simple minds fan forever and have the utmost respect for them and their music, jim has always been such a nice guy , always candid and totaly honest, they were the biggest band in the world back then and still are in my opinion. May they keep going for many years to come.
WOW! Chick! You scored again!!! This is 25 years plus, but all the answers still hold true. Excellent interview! I often wondered if Jim was writing about Christainity on New Gold Dream. If only I had the equipment to make DVD's of all your great finds!!!! Now all those people wonder why Jim hates looking at old photos, here's your answer!
I was the same age as these youngsters back in 1986. I can't believe how beautiful some of the Scots lassies are (the girl at 5:00). Jim Kerr comes across as very likeable and down to earth.
This is generally the first time I’ve seen this since 1986 , ( 35 years ) & yet remember question by question & answer by answer, that’s scary & that scares me. I still have the VHS tape which I recorded, I think it was on BBC2 in 86
They may not be "christian" but a LOT of their songs could be taken as such. "Glittering Prize","Sanctify Yourself",etc. There's nothing wrong with being a Christian,:)
@@01chittock i know I'm late here but what you described is not Christianity. Anyone who thinks going to church gets them cleaned of sin is horribly mistaken. No one person or organization can do that, the only way that can happen is a personal relationship with Jesus.
at 4:23 who s kenny ogleash that jim kerr said called and spoke to chrissie at his home, what was kenny famous for, sorry if i mispelled kennys last name
I think it's Kenny Dalglish. He's a former football player and manager for some of the big UK football clubs such as Celtic, that Jim is known to support x
What came first, the chicken or the egg? This was years before Bono became Bono.... And take a look at Live Aid, his stage craft at Wembley was terrible.... Clearly took a look Jim around then.
When Jim talks about "America", he should use the words "United States". America has never been a single country, it is one of the continent's 35 countries.
I love the music of Simple Minds. I do have to say that after watching this video that Jim has some interesting points of view but not about Jesus. I would not put Jesus on the same level with anyone else. He founded the Roman Catholic Church and all others were founded by mere men such as King Hernry VIII, Luther, Calvin, etc. and some women. John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me." Matthew 11:27 "All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him." John 17:5 "And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began." Note: No other world religious leader, such as Buddha, Confucius, or Mohammed ever made this claim.
fatima01917 The CAtholic Church was founded by the Romans, not Jesus. The Church is a political institution. Jesus never spoke of churches and tried to enlighten people. He was true rebel. That's why Rome crucified him and exploited him by inventing Catholic Church. Making people sheeples that blindly follow rulers ( Pope is a ruler, Vatican is a country - it's all ugly politics) is exactly what he was fighting against. In a way descendants of Roman empire are still mocking him with the whole religion thing.
Jesus didn't come down to organise & start any religion. People still miss the point of his being born as a man to teach at the time he did. It was to remind us of who we are, divine sovereign beings created from love & that we were capable of the same miracles that he showed people at that time & that we were meant to love & be love. None of his teachings were meant to be used to set up religious sanctuaries for people to follow but at the time he existed the Romans were conquering other lands to create their own empire & Jesus was planting the seed of the Christ consciousness in people for when the time came for the great awakening that we're going through now.
Echoing what others have said already, Catholicism and all other religions are man made. The world would be better off if we all simply believed that there’s only one God, Jesus is God, and our salvation was a gift given to us by God through Jesus’ death on the cross.
love Simple minds & im form there home towntown. but tbh im dissapointed in Jim here, he comes across slightly Thatcherite ... & playing in Ibrox WAS wrong,, they (Rangers FC) where practising a form of apartheid in Scotland at the time.. & the minds shouldnt have gave them a penny
Indeed a lot of their songs are a kind of 'sacramental'. Their is a lot of difference christianity landscape... but the best thing is to find out what Jesus said about Him self -> Matthew 16:13,14,15 “Who do men say that I am?” And Simon Peter answered and said, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Somewhere there is some place, that one million eyes can't see, And somewhere there is someone, who can see what I can see.
Do SM think of themselves as a Christian group lol?? What a hilariously stupid question man, Jim and Charlie came from Toryglen, you don't get bible bashers down there you know. 🤪🤪
Jim Kerrs and Simple Minds downfall in musical creativity during the 80's obviously went hand in hand with a degrade in style. 5 years previous to this interview Simple Minds were an extraordinary band and Jim a style icon. But with mainstream and bland adaption musically a lazy mullet on Jim fits right in!
Jim was on speed or coke in this interview. He can't sit still and you can see it in his facial expressions, the way he exaggerates some of his movements. Some of it is in deep thought at some of the questions, but a good percentage is just plain being high. Like when he's rocking his legs back and forth rapidly, or bouncing in his seat. He also stutters at odd points, which is another sign of speed.
What a very honest, unguarded interview. Always a fan of Simple Minds and a very young Jim kerr an admirable human. YNWA.

Very good interview, there were some great inspiring bands in the 80s, in the midst of all the rubbish.
It 's really true

@panamaniak True. An interesting list of song titles you mention that COULD be taken as "christian" ...........

Very wise young man, apprehensive wow.
What the hell, what kinda question is that! Did her grandmom told her to ask that?
I love Jim Kerr regardless of religions!
Met u back in the eight s in Toronto

panamaniak More on a spiritual level! Far deeper than the fake sinner who thinks going to church on Sunday and all is forgiven. 😉

@@cmorrow132 You forgot the word 'deluded' in your laughable 'personal relationship' with Jesus.
I'm so mad at those people now :( poor Jim!
@dishis
When you look totally different in an old photo, generally you hate it!! Usually....
I remember watching this and thinking his answers were rubbish. They still are.
Really I thought his answers were honest and interesting
Hope ur good Jim

The King.
Great impression of Bono from stylist to words.

look straight to me,hes no on fuck all.
Matt M these are him trying not to stutter probably as he had a stutter from early on youth....you are looking too much into it
I read in his Profile that he had a Stammer from childhood.
Or gee, being uncomfortable answering to a room full of kids might make you squirm a little.
