two thoughts: 1. Julian Lage is the best guitar player alive. 2. I know video recording can be distracting for audience and performers, but it would have been a shame to deny the rest of the world a chance to hear this astounding improvisation.
He is definitely on a level all by himself. As a guitar player, I must say that even after 56 years of playing I don't think I've ever come across another player who is so fluid in their playing and style.
Lage is like a fish you'll never grab. You can't expect what he will play, he's always searching somewhere else for something new, for something fresh. He's actually inspired by Bach but Bach had a very geometrical way to create his melodic lines, you hear the pattern coming before it's played. All is perfect, but all is closed like in eternal circle. Lage usés the predictible lines and patterns which compose Bach's circle to open spaces we didn't imagine yet. Incredible.
Never got jazz,, don’t think I ever will,, and I play guitar,, it reminds me of the opening scene of the Jerk,, ,, I’m just a smart ass so don’t kill me,, Julian is amazing
@@theethanatorem Good observation. To my ears, there is no competition. The level of ability is clear with Julian. He plays a tele, going through pedals that may add tone qualities in front of the amp but it's all Clean Tones. Anything he wants in his music comes from his fingers. I think if Pop Music, which I enjoy as much as the next guy, was at a higher level of performance we would have much better Pop Music and a much smaller list of GOATS, as they say. Now, anyone can Autotune and Sound Affect their way to fame and fortune and I don't think that's good for music in general. That's the spirit of my comment above.
Just when you think he can’t possibly play anything more astonishing, he does
Yeah incredible

The art of improvisation, so casual (it takes years), a moment in music that will never come back but done night after night.
👍
@@arturomontilla5073this just made me smile. 👍

@@oscarmontague Even mOre than THAT !!

Very fine put :-)
To be fair, none of us have ever witnessed Bach performing live. :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this. It is astonishing, and astonishingly beautiful.
Amazing. Thanks for sharing this.
Glad indeed to have found you this moment of my musician life ❤ This is just amazing what you carry
Wow, come to

The Keith Jarrett of the guitar.

Julian is the Chris Thile of the guitar
or David Blaine
Let's see anyone in our Pop Music culture do anything close to that.
Julian accomplishes his aesthetic goals and so do many pop musicians. Why compete?

Julian's playing is even more stunning than Dave's brushes matching the color of his socks.
Not a trace of Emily in that intro....but some amazing playing...Take a look at his solo version of Darn That Dream....more amazing imagination.
I've listened to that several times, it's amazing!
Actually in the last portion of the intro he introduces the first
Figure of Emily. He is amazing
It reminds me of Greg Koch, which is a compliment to both. Julian is obviously from another planet, however.
Wow! He must listen to a lot of Bach…..it’s all in there. 👍🍷
Yes! And it has Ted Greene in it too : )
@@Oenloveslife …..That’s true…..and Ted was a big Bach follower too…what a combination 🍾🥂
what the hell did I just see
Honestly, it's incredible
to be honest, the audience doesn't want to wait that long
the drummer needs to listen to the guitar man lol
you must realize that his 'intros' are but compositions unto themselves. They have little to do with the original...
yeah it isn't my favorite approach to playing a tune. that was basically just a "Julian Lage Invention"
Only. Need solo guitar on this piece ,,,
