Julian and his trio co-headlined with The Bad Plus, with monster/master Dave King drumming for both outfits.
Julian played a stunning show. Was happy to be able to capture this rendition of "Fairbanks," the closing track to his 9/22 Blue Note release "View With A Room." Jorge Roeder opens with a powerful bass solo. Dave's deceptively prosaic rock rhythm allows Julian's recently reinvigorated Indie pop sensibilities regarding harmonic structure to really shine.

Every time, Julian blows me away with his diverse improvisation -- while Jorge and Dave kill as always. I've had the privilege of attending a couple of their shows in the last couple years. Can't wait for many more in the years to come.

If I can't see the guitar players hands at a concert it's almost like I wasn't even there! Seriously though, I was super lucky to have gotten passes to the show that allowed me to be in the almost empty VIP balcony. I couldn't get any friends to come with me so I gave my two other VIP wristbands to some nice strangers I met in the smoking section. I was very close to the speaker too, glad the sound came through clearly. Might have been better dead center, but I wanted to be closer along the side.
