- Many have asked, "Why didn't the Fellowship use the eagles to fly into Mordor?" In this video, I give my over the top take on why. Although walking into Mordor is never simple, it is more discreet.

I had no idea Orcs had such enriching recreational opportunities.
But their contract does have dental.
Moreover, LOTR made clear the threat don't always come from trolls and orcs but also from our own "weakness". Eagles are powerful beings and powerful beings are easier to corrupt for the Ring. The One Ring may not be able to fit an eagle claw (though it used to change size according to his owner's finger) but it can spread doubt in their mind and convince them to keep the ring "safe" in their home, rather than fighting the fell beasts. Even if fell beasts are no match for eagles, a spirit corrupted by the ring won't think rationally. Meanwhile Sauron's army will take over Middle-Earth and the ring will "leave" the eagles the same way it left Gollum. Then it will go from bearer to bearer until it finds his way to Sauron's finger.

I love the idea of an eagle becoming corrupted by sauron and hoarding the ring on the top of a mountain like a magpie. I guess they maybe could wear it too given that in the Hobbit it's said that Gwahir was given a crown by the dwarves of erebor.
For one sec, I thought "how can such noble creatures be corrupted?" then I recalled that even Galadriel was tempted...
Let this be a lesson to you Cinemasins, HISHE and Screen Junkies.
Yeah, drop them right where Sauron's infinite armies can overwhelm them.
Cause sure eagle would fly low enough to get hit by arrows... Or better, from all the places they had to fly over black gate. Fact stands that eagles would solve everything.

Tolkien didn’t want to use the eagles as he considers them as a dangerous plot devices and kept them at Deus ex Machina when the narrative demands it.
There was original 1958 script that had heroes using the Eagles early which Tolkien hated it.
Also in the books there's a part where Gandalf asks the eagle how far they can take him and they're straight up like Bruh I'll get tired soon.

The Eagle theory isn't possible anyway because in the book this is considered but then then I think its Gandalf that says the eagles would just point blank refuse to go to such a place
Also, in The Hobbit, to back up your statement, the Eagles didn't want to fly over the lands inhabited by humans.
In the rescue of Gandalf, the eagle said he couldn't take Gandalf to the ends of the earth. eagles are spies, not taxi drivers. Only a few times do eagles give rides, and most of them are for short distances. Only Beorn in the Hobbit got a long ride.

they are called Fell beast not dragons. Fell beast are more like wyverns weaker in some aspects lack speech and just overall animistic

This is a nice comeback to the HISHE running gag. But to be fair, the Eagles could have taken them 3/4th of the way and then they could have walked from there, saving almost a year of travel time and thousands of lives in battles that never would have happened.
Not clearly stated in the movies, but in the books, the eagle's aren't at Gandalf's beck and call. They're very busy with their own things going on.

Someone finally points out that flying on giant eagles into a heavily guarded fortress full of relatively accurate archers, not to mention Wyvern mounted Wraiths, is a bad idea.

Gandalf was planning to travel with eagles: when he escaped orthanc, he went to the eagles and made agreement that they will carry him, frodo and sam. He kept it secret, because surprise would be the best advantage. Suddendly the party was 9 persons, but gandalf thought there could be plenty of eagles. Eagles live in east from misty mountains. Gandalf planned the way over the mountains, but saruman ruined it... they had to take through moria. There would be so many orcs, that could report to saruman or sauron, so Gandalf's plan was in danger. When gandalf is holding on from the edge of khazar dum, he yells, hoping that at least one of the remaining companion would understand "fly you fools!"
Sorry to tell you, but this theory is absolute bullshit. You haven't read the books I guess and just saw some internettheory. If you wish I can tell you why, but I don't have the time right now.

Oh my God I remember about year ago me and my friend would always watch your lego parodies and we were obsessed and now I found you again! Yay!
People seem to forget that even though Sauron possessed no physical form he still had some of his powers. If he ever caught of glimpse of the Great Eagles flying there, which I'm sure he would, then the Fellowship would be done. This video represents it very well with the frying thing, even if humorously. The whole point was to SNEAK the One Ring into Mordor, because even then The White Council was AFRAID of Sauron, rightfully so (every single person throughout Middle Earth's history who underestimated Morgoth's greatest servant suffered for it)
The only reason he couldn't do anything to stop Frodo in Return of the King was because Sauron thought Aragorn had the One Ring, and everything that followed happened extremely fast: Frodo puts One Ring>Sauron notices it>Gollum bites his finger off>The Nazgul move to intercept>Frodo fights for the One Ring> Gollum falls.
Very funny alternate ending. Eagle alerted, troll catapult, gollum, and eagle problems.

This is the canon reason why they couldn't just take the Eagles to Mount Doom. The Eagles wouldn't fly over Mordor while Sauron lived, because the orcs would shoot them down and the Fellbeasts would tear them apart and even if they survived that, the Eye would cast terrible curses at them.

For those of you who think the Eagles would be the best way.
1. The eagles are Manwë's acting force in Middle Earth after the Valar realized that their direct influence only ended in tradgedy. Gandalf wanted to return to Valinor, and after the Ring had been destroyed, he refused to help the Hobbits with chasing out the occupying forces in the Shire. He didn't want them to rely on him when he was gone. Maybe the same went for the Eagles. They only intervened when absolutely necessary. To save Gandalf, stop the Orcs in the Battle of the Five Armies, save Gandalf again and then once more before finally aiding in the battle of the black gates.
2. The Eagles would most likely be exhausted by the time they reached Mordor, and even if they rested, the Fel Beasts would be waiting for them (with Sauron's Eye easily spotting them), and they could not fight with Frodo and Gandalf on their backs. And even if they managed to get past the beasts, they would have to land to get to the opening of Mt. Doom, because, you know, relying on Frodo dropping it at the exact time needed from hundreds of meters above is fucking stupid.
3. The most important part. Frodo would not have thrown the Ring. By the time Gandalf told him what he was possessing, Frodo could not even throw it into a hearthfire. He had put it in his pocket before trying to throw it and realizing it no longer was in his hand. Without Smeagol taking the Ring so Frodo could come to his senses, he would have not have destroyed the Ring.
Oh, so THAT's what they mean when they say it wouldn't work...
This video must be shared with anyone who believes they should have flown to mordor on the eagles.
