The Frodo and Sam were a pretty big miss in my book. Either make them the tattered mount doom version, or give them their orc armor so we can complete the disguise. This version of the characters were never in Mordor.
I agree, I also think the new Legolas looks somewhat bald on the front of his head. Also I wanted to thank you, you are the reason I started making videos of my own.
To be honest, while I understand and agree with the decision, I am a bit sad they didn't do the massive absurd Knight's Kingdom-esque version of Sauron from the TT game.
I feel they didn't do that is because then he's far too big. Sauron towers over others, but isn't an absolute giant compared to them. I feel if they did the minifigure version of Sauron from the game (specifically just making the helm and shoulder pads separate parts) and made him just a bit taller with slightly longer legs and arms, and made the mace a new molded weapon, then he'd be perfect. But what we got is good enough, I just wish the eye holes of the helmet actually lined up with the fiery eyes printed onto the minifig head underneath.
That was definitely my big takeaway from comparing the Rivendell figs. LEGO's graphic style has changed considerably since 2012, and unfortunately I think it's made a lot of these new LotR figures inferior to their 2012 counterparts. The best solution ends up being a mix and match of parts between the eras
@@jamesw3413 I mean this in the nicest way possible: what on Middle Earth are you talking about?! @@jamesw3413 Oh ok, now I got you. I was just very confused with your initial reply. Idk, I just don't see how having the pupils is any more in line than not. Also, on a related-unrelated note; I don't get why everyone is so upset out over mail not having pupils, yet Palps lost them like a year ago and barely anyone said anything?
It took me some time to get used to it but ultimately I think Gollum's redesign was an ok decision. The old one looked like a minidoll, while the new one is a little more in line with modern lego minifigure design standards. I like both versions for different reasons, and it's nice to have an option.
I disagree with calling the Mouth of Sauron's inclusion "bizarre" - Barad-dur is essentially a fortress-citadel, and MoS had a high position in it along with the likes of the Witch-King and Sauron's other main subordinates, so it's good that he's here. Not only does it make perfect sense for him to be there, but it also punishes the scalpers pushing insane prices for the old Black Gate set (where MoS was previously an exclusive) with an improved version of the character now being relatively available. All in all though, I liked the video! The Gollum figure is disappointing, but considering the character's long absence, he's a welcome enough inclusion in an overall solid fig line-up.

A proper Minas Tirith would be so cool, I hope if they go for that they also include a few ghosts and Aragorn in the chainmail with the reforged sword (and the witch king. Please.)
A perfect compromise, so you could still have their normal look for when they're with Gollum on the mountain, would be to give each a copy of Gothmog's armor. It wouldn't get in the way of the capes (because they're weren't even included for some reason, but also because you can just take them off, or put them on top), and would also allow you to beef up the other Orcs (altho, there is something special about Mog only having that armor, but my point still stands)
I had the Shelob set from 2013, including gollum, frodo, and sam along with a giant brick built spider. It was a very memorable set for me and i remember it fondly. I feel that lord of the rings is at an age where Lego doesnt need to StarWars-ify the series by giving us every single scene over and over again. We’ll likely never get another shelob, or another riddles in the dark, or another mines of moria. And thats ok. The franchise feels more adult now, which allows Lego to raise the quality and take more time in releasing bigger sets.
Shelob's Attack is such a great set! I'm curious to see what the future holds for this theme - if we'll continue to only get 18+ sets, or if they'll try smaller playsets.
I’m gonna be honest, while I understand why they did it, there will always be a part of me that’s super angry the only Sauron figure in the entire Lego LoTR catalogue is locked behind an absurdly expensive collector set.
Planning on buying this anyways, but the Mouth of Sauron really sells it for me. He's an incredibly unique character, and they really nailed his appearance, especially considering they can't really portray the bloody cracks on his lips.
While there's little chance of me picking up the set, Sauron would be amazing to own. These sets are making me want to see Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon sets. Would love a wave of dragons akin to the Hungarian Horntail.
I couldn't agree more. This set isn't good enough for me for it's price, but having some of the figures would be great. I can hope that they will come down to more earthly and normal prices eventually, but I think there are far more people that want the figures than there are that want the whole set, so it is unlikely any of them will ever be cheap. That said, having a game of thrones line would be awesome, if they make it at least somewhat affordable. Game of Thrones has so many great characters, it would be a lot of fun to collect them all. :)
I think it is perfectly okay to not have everything. I mean, it really sucks for collecters that are also completionists. But for regular people, having a limit on things you can have is not a huge deal. As long as regular bricks are affordable and there are still fun minifigures and animals to put in and around them, I'm happy as a camper.
@@pinobluevogel6458 ok but sauron is literally The Main Bad Guy. i dont think figures of major, fan-favorite characters should be inaccessible to the average fan.
Honestly, I like the new Gollum minifigure better. The eyes on the old one just creep me out & seem not Lego like to me unlike the new one. Also, while I have no interest in the set as a whole, hopefully I can pick up the Sauron minifigure by itself at some point.
Hey I’ve got an idea for a moc you could build! It’s a gecko tank (vivarium) with 2 geckos : a crested gecko and a leopard gecko. While one gecko is in the tank, the other could be on a little stand by the side! I tried to build this myself but I don’t have enough bricks in the right colours so I though, because you’ve got a leopard gecko and I’ve got a crested gecko (that’s the gecko on my pic) you could build it instead.
I actually like all 3 Golum's pretty equally. Obviously the old ones captured the likeness of the character better, but I like the new one and appreciate the effort to keep it more in the LEGO style. I wonder if maybe there's a way to capture the best of both worlds
Honestly, if they put the nose on the new one I might feel a lot better about it. I feel Gollum can break the nose rule since he hardly resembles a Hobbit/human anymore
I was also sad that there is no Witch-king in this set but my bet is Lego is planing on making 1 LOTR set every year and we might get him in Minas Tirith or even Minas Morgul, so there is no worry in that department.
I would really love another playset line but I feel they don't want to do this because of how poorly the last line sold. Those were one of the best lego sets ever done but from what I got kids just didn't want to buy them because most don't even know what lotr is.
3:24 I dont hate it. im not one of those hardcore lego fans, however i am still waiting on more ghostbusters sets (pls lego, i want gozer,) so im indifferent to how the minifigure turned out. But I like how you honestly said that you thought it wasnt an improvement and kindly pointed out your issues instead of belittling it, calling it the "worst thing you've ever seen," and over reacting like other lego youtube reviews. you are arole model of what other lego channels should be.
I think it's so important to remember that real people make this stuff, and they probably put many hours of work into each and every thing that they design. I definitely wish more people would be kinder too!
Still hoarding my original mouth of sauron helm. As someone who missed out on the majority of lotr sets on release I can still say I got that piece on bl in 2014 i belive for .48 cents 😂
Hot take-- ive never really understood the hype around wanting a sauron Minifigure. His character in humanoid form only shows up in the one scene at the beginning of fellowship, and after that always appeared as an evil pressance theough his servents, or directly through the eye/palantir. As a kid i never bemoaned the lack of a sauron fig, since it represents the least important aspect of his character imo Also i agree the old gollum figs are definitely far superior at representing andy circus's likeness
That's a very fair take. I wouldn't have even noticed if he wasn't included. Realistically, there were all sorts of other villains that would have made more sense (Like the Witch King! 😂)
I think I prefer the new more Lego styled Gollum. If it were released first and THEN the "realistic" styled eyes versions after, people would say "this new figure is not very Lego, they never should have changed it." A lose-lose, I suppose. But then, I'm the kind of fan who misses when Lego animals had hollow divets for eyes instead of paint apps, so I'm probably in the minority.
I do agree that the hollow eyes are superior. To me, that will always be *the* LEGO aesthetic. That approach may have looked absolutely awful on Gollum though. 😂 Or imagine something like early Dobby or Yoda lol!
A pelennor fields playset with a brickbuilt oliphaunt and nazgul with a healthy amount of rohirrim and easterlings, with eowyn and the witch king would be perfect next but I don't know if Lego would make a play set instead of an overpriced display dust collector like minas tirith.
Sauron is way too short. I think its mostly the helmet being a helmet instead of a molded head. It makes him look too disproportionate. He would've benefited from either longer legs or a molded head and shoulder armor, or both.
I do have a couple issues with some of the figure. For one I would heavily prefered the long legs and arms for sauron. The helmet/shoulder piece is just way to bulky this way and it makes him look way to booble head like and i lowkey hate the way he looks :D Also i think frodo and sam look way to clean here, both should really have a more tattered and dusty print, i mean they ran around in the same clothes for half a year at that point in the story. And i think its kinda weird that we got their orc helmets but no bodies to go along with them, just 2 extra orc torsos should have been there if you ask 450 euros for this. And to go further on the price, including stickers in such a set is just kinda pathetic and sad. If you market you stuff as luxury products and raise luxury price you really should also deliver a luxury product
Lego in 2024: We can print on the most obsucre accesories like shields but we still cant/wont print on 2x2 tiles and give you a a5 sticker sheet instead.
They're all pretty cool minifig but the i feel like the older orc seem to have a more scary look on their face which is more orc-like imo, the new one seem a bit too kind. And also new gollum is really not as good as the og one. Pretty sick overall tho.
The new printed torsos for the lil' hobbits feels like a bit of a downgrade, the old torso has more of a personality. Gollum feels a bit more Lego-y like you said, but its a little wonky. Maybe if it was a Gollum from like Lego Dimensions [or a Lego game]
It’s a cool set but I can’t afford it 😅 Trying to save up to afford T-1 Typhoon, or, if the Lego gods see fit to bless me with a listing, the Mars Mission Crystal Reaper

I really don't care much for him either, but I've been surprised to see that many people like this new version far more! He's certainly a divisive figure xD
The tower itself is fantastic. I'm excited to see what set they do next! Hopefully LEGO will take our minifigure feedback and use it to make improvements in the future too.
As someone with an old Gollum mini-figure, I have to say that the new version is definitely a downgrade. It's almost remarkable how none of the features could be called improvements.
I know Gollum is tan in real life, but I feel that light grey would have looked much better in the sets, since they depict the mostly grey-washed and nighttime scenes of LOTR, where his skin is significantly less saturated and bluish gray. And yes, omg those eyes are just way off. Overall, this year Lego ruined every IP faces from Star Wars to Lotr because of the eyes.
That's definitely an undeniable downgrade. It's weird that they made the custom arms for him in much smaller sets, but weren't willing to bring them back or make new ones for this bank-busting monstrosity
Screw this set. Lego promised exclusive minis together with this set, when bought with VIP status during a Limited amount of time, but didnt ship them. After contacting them about the issue they said they wouldnt ship them either way. Trash.

It wouldn't get in the way of the capes (because they're weren't even included for some reason, but also because you can just take them off, or put them on top), and would also allow you to beef up the other Orcs (altho, there is something special about Mog only having that armor, but my point still stands)
I want a GWP of those "disapprove" - Hobbit neighbours that we see at the start of Fellowship. Maybe that's just my German soul though haha
Lol! Imagine those grumpy face prints. I'd love more Hobbit figures one way or another too!
These minifigs look sick
They're so good! Lots of wins in this set
1:49 Me and the boys in bedwars armed with iron tools and iron armour getting ready to attack the red team only to die again
Thats me every round with my team
@@MaxM210 don't worry im sure we'll get a microfighter or advent calendar with him soon
@CaptainBuilds Christmas sauron with a wooly jumper on.
dont forget the sauron mech
@@Oscar-ek2jx Sauron Claus.
Planning on buying this anyways, but the Mouth of Sauron really sells it for me. He's an incredibly unique character, and they really nailed his appearance, especially considering they can't really portray the bloody cracks on his lips.
I love that they went all out on him. Both versions are glorious!
I just need a small-ish Eowyn vs. Witch King diorama. That’s all I need! It’d probably be more affordable than these giant D2C sets too 😭
That would be legendary...
@@CheeseyStudiosagreed. It’s crazy Lego hasn’t made Éowyn except for a tiny figure in a game set.
Honestly, I hope we get this same Sauron in a $13 one ring microfighter soon 😂
@@CheeseyStudios it's just a polybag with a single ring lol
I can totally respect that! I think I'm just too familiar with the old ones.
Never got one of the sets but always wanted onev
I wish I had picked up more of the playsets as a kid. They're so hard to get now...
You asked for which LOTR we would want next, yet we never had an official Tom Bombadil minifig, we need the goat back.
so so true
Hey I’ve got an idea for a moc you could build! It’s a gecko tank (vivarium) with 2 geckos : a crested gecko and a leopard gecko. While one gecko is in the tank, the other could be on a little stand by the side! I tried to build this myself but I don’t have enough bricks in the right colours so I though, because you’ve got a leopard gecko and I’ve got a crested gecko (that’s the gecko on my pic) you could build it instead.
I would love to build a gecko at some point. I'm so terrible at creatures though 😭
@@CheeseyStudios hahaha lol same!
I only would like Sauron be light metal colour and helmet and armour being separated
Two separate pieces for the armor and helmet would have been very useful
Amazing minifgures, but I do think Golum looked better in the earlier attempts. 😅
I can see what they were trying to do, but yeah, it doesn't quite work for me
Everyday I PRAY for a Witchking on a Fell Beast set😭
likewise 😭😭😭
old golems arms were actually also used for a teenage mutant ninja turtles set in pink
Oh wow! I didn't even realize that. That's kind of cool
I was also sad that there is no Witch-king in this set but my bet is Lego is planing on making 1 LOTR set every year and we might get him in Minas Tirith or even Minas Morgul, so there is no worry in that department.
Fingers crossed! Hopefully we see another set, or even a whole playset line next year too
I would really love another playset line but I feel they don't want to do this because of how poorly the last line sold. Those were one of the best lego sets ever done but from what I got kids just didn't want to buy them because most don't even know what lotr is.
I think they should’ve given us a mordor version of Frodo and Sam with their jackets off
That would have been really nice. It's a bit weird to be getting repeats in the theme already
Legendary 🤣 Ah, I miss pre-pandemic Bricklink prices so much...
I just really want a ucs-style Bag End :(
That would be incredible!
Hot take-- ive never really understood the hype around wanting a sauron Minifigure.
His character in humanoid form only shows up in the one scene at the beginning of fellowship, and after that always appeared as an evil pressance theough his servents, or directly through the eye/palantir. As a kid i never bemoaned the lack of a sauron fig, since it represents the least important aspect of his character imo
Also i agree the old gollum figs are definitely far superior at representing andy circus's likeness
I'd love some proper playsets again. It sucks paying $400+ for just a handful of figures.
I for one like the gollum figure
It seems quite divisive! A lot of people do like it, which I'm honestly happy to see.
Should have given gothmog the yoda headpiece
Some ears (or a ear, rather lol) may have been nice
Sauron is way too short. I think its mostly the helmet being a helmet instead of a molded head. It makes him look too disproportionate. He would've benefited from either longer legs or a molded head and shoulder armor, or both.
Separate armor/helmet moulds definitely could have helped
I do have a couple issues with some of the figure.
For one I would heavily prefered the long legs and arms for sauron. The helmet/shoulder piece is just way to bulky this way and it makes him look way to booble head like and i lowkey hate the way he looks :D
Also i think frodo and sam look way to clean here, both should really have a more tattered and dusty print, i mean they ran around in the same clothes for half a year at that point in the story.
All fair points! New Frodo and Sam prints would have been greatly appreciated.
Minas Morgul please.
That could be really sweet if done right
Lego in 2024: We can print on the most obsucre accesories like shields
but we still cant/wont print on 2x2 tiles and give you a a5 sticker sheet instead.
Classic LEGO behavior 🤣
Funny enough the first time we’ve ever seen Sauron’s face is in LEGO.
He was in the Rings of Power 🤮
Don't remind me, Benobrien 😭😭😭
They're all pretty cool minifig but the i feel like the older orc seem to have a more scary look on their face which is more orc-like imo, the new one seem a bit too kind. And also new gollum is really not as good as the og one. Pretty sick overall tho.
It's probably all in the eyes for the orcs too. I can definitely see what you mean
The new printed torsos for the lil' hobbits feels like a bit of a downgrade, the old torso has more of a personality.
Gollum feels a bit more Lego-y like you said, but its a little wonky. Maybe if it was a Gollum from like Lego Dimensions [or a Lego game]
New Frodo and Sam variants would have been very nice. At least the helmets are super cool!
It’s a cool set but I can’t afford it 😅
Trying to save up to afford T-1 Typhoon, or, if the Lego gods see fit to bless me with a listing, the Mars Mission Crystal Reaper
Yeah, why is the Reaper so rare? It was the last Mars Mission set I was able to find too 😭
@@CheeseyStudios right?! About a year or two ago, when I first got back into Lego as an adult, there was one for sale on Bricklink sealed for ~$160. Been kicking myself for not buying it ever since. Hopefully some day 🫡
Also if you got one, does this mean Mars Mission Wave 2 video is in the works? 👁️ 👁️
Indeed. I have no idea when I'll actually get around to recording it, but I have the sets together, waiting :O
@@CheeseyStudios your videos are always amazing, so I’m sure whatever you’re cooking, it will be worth the wait 👁️ I’ll keep an eye out for sure!
Lego LOTR Rivendell & Barad Dûr 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
It's a good time to be a LEGO Lord of the Rings fan!
I just want LOTR sets that aren't a billion dollars and take up an entire shelf. Give me a play set scale Hobbit home
That would be awesome. These things are impossible to store, that's for sure. I have no idea where to put this one 😭
There is a (rumor) that there will be a minis tirith set
We'll see what happens - that would be an awesome one!
New Golum is better. I like consistency and a standard that way it fits in well the the overall look
I'm glad you like him! It's funny to see how polarizing the figure is 😂
Make a car content some times pls
Could be interesting! Good idea
Me sees golem (ptsd from golem the game) AHHGHHHH
Hello
Hey there!
2024 Gollum looks more like Voldemort at the end of The Deathly Hallows
lololol true
The new Gollum is a travesty
I really don't care much for him either, but I've been surprised to see that many people like this new version far more! He's certainly a divisive figure xD
Wow; the new Gollum really is terrible. 😂
Yeah, he really doesn't do it for me. Makes me glad I have the old ones!
@@CheeseyStudios I'm guessing that someone at LEGO was like, "isn't Gollum supposed to be ugly? Let's make him ugly!"
There's actually 4 not 3 of that new printed shield in the set, 1 on the green orc, 2 in the forge and 1 in the mess hall
Oh whoops I wonder where I put the 4th...
Nossa, que set lindo. Mas não gostei da minifigure do smeagle, prefiro as mais antigas.
The tower itself is fantastic. I'm excited to see what set they do next! Hopefully LEGO will take our minifigure feedback and use it to make improvements in the future too.
@@CheeseyStudios ainda bem, mas espero que lance mais coisas do senhor dos anéis, eu realmente amo os livros e os filmes!!!
I think : we don't have the witch king only because they want to add him on Minas Tirith set in 2025...
That's my suspicion as well. We'll see what happens!
lego golem game when
I'd love to see some sort of LEGO Lord of the Rings game again, kinda like what they did for LEGO Star Wars a few years back!
@@CheeseyStudios you mean the goofy ahh Lego Star Wars game that has all the movies named after anikan skywalker
As someone with an old Gollum mini-figure, I have to say that the new version is definitely a downgrade. It's almost remarkable how none of the features could be called improvements.
Yeah, that's unfortunately how I felt too. Oh well, glad you have an old one!
Tom Bombadil
so true
Hi
Hey!
That could honestly be very interesting with the grey. Yeah, minifigures all around have had some strange stylistic choices.
We nedd following sers from lord of the rings

Yesssss
Cat or dog, I prefer cat
Dog, but gecko even moreso!
@@CheeseyStudios me too, I actually have a Leapord gecko!!!! Got him a month ago, his name is Gojira
The new gollum is far inferior. It’s really all the in arms. He very much looks like Lego pieces for arms rather than just normal arms…
That's definitely an undeniable downgrade. It's weird that they made the custom arms for him in much smaller sets, but weren't willing to bring them back or make new ones for this bank-busting monstrosity
New Gollum is one of the worst redesigns in LEGO's history IMO
Yeah, I'm not really vibing with him. I can see what they were going for, but...
The new orcs don't look right to me, they just look off....
It might just be me but they don't look like orcs anymore.
I think it's the face prints for sure. The eyes on mouth aren't as menacing as the 2012 ones.
Screw this set. Lego promised exclusive minis together with this set, when bought with VIP status during a Limited amount of time, but didnt ship them. After contacting them about the issue they said they wouldnt ship them either way. Trash.
That sucks. :( What exclusives were you supposed to get?
@@CheeseyStudios the nazgul on its fell beast. This issue is the reason the set has almost exclusively negative reviews
I simply want the gorgeous minifigures, but no, lego just has to put them in a $400+ set 🥲
I really hope we finally get some smaller sets next year 🤞
