If you have heard, "Cowboy Carter" by Beyonce, you've heard Giddens playing banjo. Ironic that the banjo player is the best singing voice on the whole album. (I have complete respect for Beyonce but someone has to point out the obvious.)
Gaaa Damn! Her voice and this song takes me to some 1700s voodoo, slave trade, pirates on the open seas, colonial western hemisphere. This might be the best "supergroup" ever. Bob Dylan, you are a lyrical genius man. Even the stuff you didnt record kicks ass 40 years later. May you live on forever in you art. And well done to all the guys in New Basement tapes. Way to put the lyrics to relevant, both current and classic sounds and honoring the Dylan lyrics as they should be. Tbone, you sir are a genius. :-) Thank for giving us this work of art. Rock and roll sorely needs a kick in the ass today.
Rhianna - was on CBS Sunday Morning - a month or two back. First time I'd ever heard her. She has a soft and yet stunning and captivating vocal presence. I've never heard so much delicate range and power in the same package.
@@charlesmiller6281 New Orleans has zero to do with it. I was born and raised there and I love this. It isn't up to fans to decide who is included in projects. You'd have to become a successful producer to have that control. Good luck. Until then I think T-Bone did a wonderful job.
Im only the 114th comment and the last was two years ago? Are you serious? Rhiannon Giddens, thank you so much for an amazing performance! You rock MAM!
I was extremely fortunate to run into Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued on the Showcase channel & couldn't believe the mash up of some of the finest bona fide musicians living today all packed into a basement. Some I known of & some I just heard for the first time like Rhiannon Giddens. What a grand talent and rare find she IS ! To see & hear all of these masters of musicality collaborate & create tunes simultaneously to unpublished Jedi-like lyrics of iconic Bob Dylan was nothing short of an audible mystical trip into the history of adoration, suffering, injustices, love, & everything else. The cherry on top: T-Bone Burnett producing this genius group. MUST. LISTEN.
This song is just crazy, the music starts to fall apart and then Rhiannon just pulls it all back in and again, and again and her magnificent vocals just run like a thread through all of it keeping it from flying apart all together. I've been a enthusiastic music lover since I first experienced it but this something else, bravo.
I saw the documentary of the Basement Tapes remake last night on ShowcaseW. I was over whelmed at how these artists came together in such a awesome collaboration with each making inspiring contributions. Just blew my mind. Loved the way Marcus and others supported Rhiannon in finding her perfect take on "Going Down the River"--gives me the chills.
There's an idiot in every village Jane, looks like a few of them viewed this? Pearls before swine as Richard Burton once told an unruly audience he was reading Dylan Thomas to.
Please release this whole concert somewhere, somehow! I was at the show and want to relive it. It was seriously one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
A great collaboration! People express with instruments, but from their faces you can partake in their sheer joy for something passing through them which did not exist before.
I can say this is the best album I've heard in last 5 years. Such talent on stage + timeless Dylan lyrics... Production is amazing, arrangement and sheer playing talent of all involved makes this record excellent and it should be heard of more but in today "music scene" its hard to get this on stations. Sadly. I would love to see more albums from this line up :)
I’m so sad I never got to see them live. Would love if they did a ten year anniversary tour or something. Or at very least release this professional taped concert on dvd or streaming. So freaking good
Sitting in a brexit-ridden Britain in which the fear and loathing are almost tangible I listen to this music and am moved to tears. The shallowness of nationhood, nationalism and patriotism and all those other poisonous -isms is shown by this music which originates in different cultures and crosses cultures and speaks an unmistakable message of hope.
Well nationalism is not necessarily an evil but misrepresentation always is. British nationalism is the creed of the invader but many nationalist movements are of and for the weak and dispossessed against the invader.Or do you think that the racist British, racist Nazi and all other racist empires were not defeated by nationalists asserting their right to self government. Do you really think the Vietnamese ejected America because of Communism.
Mate. Their is nothing wrong with other cultures. But try thinking about your own culture and how it has been eroded. The English are not allowed to have a voice without being called racist by people like you. Just because a majority of people in this country are tired of the bureaucracy and corruption of the European commission and the uncontrolled immigration, that does not make them racists. Be proud, we have given this world a lot. Including freedom from fascism!
sickofamericanidol - that's Elvis Costello, not Dylan. And I'm pretty sure James was just reflecting on how the music made him reflect rather than trying to describe what the song was about. Let the man be in his feels instead of being a prick maybe, huh?
Rhiannon Giddens is one of the greatest.
Love her.
Rhiannon Giddons is Absolutly Beautiful in this one ... Wow BREATHTAKING
The joy from that bass guitarist gets me every time. Love this song.
The cameraman tries to follow him, but it's just not possible.
This album is pure magic..I've fallen in love with the album..and this woman, Rhiannon is pure spirit and soul.
Ms Giddens is mesmerizing!

Phenomenal performance. Rhiannon and her band take this to a whole other level. Wow.

Rhiannon. And yes, she is truly special.
Are you sure you’re not confusing her with Rhiannon?
@@janegrenfell2116 LOL. Yeah, I think he is.
The 11 people that disliked this.... What planet do you live on? So much talent on one stage
Carson, I agree.
Bet a majority of them are young, and 45 zealots
The planet of New Orleans. Knopfler fans jealous he wasn't included.
Seriously, I can't fathom the mind-frame of someone who would dislike this.

One of my favs. I always come back to it.
Always such a difference when the musicians are intense like this and feel every beat, every note, every word of the lyrics.
You just know when you are watching something special.
Wow! That’s it! I could say a lot about Rhiannon but it’s mine to keep! What a powerful song and an absolute beautiful woman!
the whole world needs to see and hear this. the best stuff ever....
What an absolutely brilliant performance. The energy carries through even on video.

Wow! Thank you all!
Its awesome, beyond words, to have new, old rock n roll.
Anything by the New Basement Taps is awesome! Especially with Rhiannon singing and playing!
this is musical perfection everyone
One of my favorite songs on the album, love it
How can anyone dislike this, especially when you know the story behind the music
There's an idiot in every village Jane, looks like a few of them viewed this? Pearls before swine as Richard Burton once told an unruly audience he was reading Dylan Thomas to.
I like it, but different strokes for different folks. An overwhelming majority like it.
Thanks, T-Bone, for putting this amazing group together.
goose bumps, girl you give me goose bumps from my head to my toe and there's nothing i can do goose bumps!!!! :-D
Those people are mesmerized in their seats , seats of rich Corinthian leather at Ricardo Montalban theatre
Route66 😂😂😂
My local community radio station played “Going Back To Kansas City” from this album, so I explored the rest and found this…. Terrific stuff.

This is the woman who just won the MacArthur Genius Grant last fall. She is so amazing!
Love and desire, beauty and art, the pain of loneliness, chasing love which you will not ever catch. Beyond the Human condition. Alas
She’s so cool while the men get carried away. Perfect for the song.
She's incredible in this.
A great collaboration! People express with instruments, but from their faces you can partake in their sheer joy for something passing through them which did not exist before.

Ella es un viaje de ida.

I bet Dylan never dreamed that anyone could take his lyrics and create this.
