To be able to listen to anything this woman does is a massive gift!
Rhiannon Giddens is an incredible talent and stirs the soul. With her charismatic presence, you can almost miss the seamless contributions of her musical and life partner Francesco Turrisi, himself an amazing multi-instrumentalist and composer. The two together create magic.
Ah, Francesco blows me away. You never know what note he is going to play next, but they're transfixing, transporting.
I'm finding it difficult to find the appropriate superlatives for this supremely talented woman. Ever since she blew me away when she appeared on Jools Holland's New Year's Eve TV programme a few years ago I've been bowled over time and time again by her awesome vocals and musical talent.
I first saw her at the Houston International Festival. At that time, she was a member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. She is so talented and sings pure joy and sadness❤️
So talented!
You just expressed my same sentiments!
Goddess.
Was that the show she played with the Chieftains? Sadly, I no longer have access to Jools. Also first saw Alabama Shakes through him and London Grammar.
Rhiannon Giddens is definitely a national treasure! I am privileged to have seen her a couple of times live, up-close, and in-person in Sugar Grove, NC as part of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. They brought the house down!👏👏👏
I can’t get enough!!! The music, the voice and the history lesson!!! Thank you.
Rhiannon Giddens, Your haunting voice, your beautiful face with that slight bit of smile , your passion, your energy , your ease playing all these instruments & you might wonder just why do I feel like you've taken me back to Woodstock 69. Wish you all the best for making so many of us giving the sense of fulfillment with your music.
As Paul Simon so clearly showed on his two albums from South Africa, American music does not come from Europe, but from AFRICA!! Ms. Giddens is a true historian of that truth! It takes great courage and tireless work to find, prepare and present each piece, true to his roots. When we are ready in this country to accept this truth, we will know a great deal about who we are!! I and my children will always be eternally grateful to this beautiful gift from those very roots she re-turns to! "Somewhere up above our heads." If truth is beautiful then she truly is Ms. America!
Actually it's the mix if European , Asia, Spain, Arabic, Caribbean and Africa. Shows the Beauty we can create when we act as one race. The human race. Music and musician were the first to integrate.
She's a living legend. I really hope I can see her live someday
she's coming to the ryman in nashville.
One thing I need to add to my bucket list is to see a Rhiannon Giddens Concert!
Wow! What a treat! A complete concert of Rhiannon Giddens! Thank you!!
Wow, Wow and Oh-- my-- goodness gracious 😮, this Lady 👏 is 1in a million, what I mean by that is she's generational, an immaculate tone in her voice 😢 tears of joy is what she's capable of! This is by far thee best out there as far as Americana, folk, or whatever nowadays-- Peace ✌ out from ETn
After sixteen years abroad, this is exactly what I miss about being in the U.S.A., the types of music that are so varied, all being what makes America the most special place on Earth. There's nowhere else that has so much talent, much that goes unheard in other parts of the world, not because it's lacking in any way, but because of the media and the music industry itself. If not for UA-cam I wouldn't ever hear anything that is new and wonderful. Rhiannon Giddens, you are an Earthly treasure!
Rihanna lives in Co Wicklow Ireland
She has just completed a European tour played Dublin Feb 25 ... European are very generous in their appreciation and interest in all musical genres.. Her current partner is from Sicily....
Humanity is beautiful. The culmination of experience into Art, becomes the justification for all suffering, and the enjoyment of all sweetness. One song at a time.
Yes, indeed.
I lack the words to do justice to her talents (and those of her fellow musicians). Such a pleasure to watch. An experience, an education, perhaps a reminder, personal and collective. I so hope I can see her live one day.
A world treasure,
What an amazing woman and group this is.....
Love the scat in "bye bye pretty baby" She's the best!.. .and with Fransesco - OMG!!! Thanks for your collaboration and for sharing Spirit!!!
❤💟💕🤗😆😎🙂🌼🌺🌷🌄🌄🕊️🕊️
I wondered where this beautiful voice had gotten too recently. All her performances here on UA-cam music are nearly a decade old. Nice to hear something more recent. 😊💕
You can find her at the Newport Jazz Festival - 2022, I think; or it might have been just before the pandemic.
Today is Aug 18.2023 and she has a new album out and posted to UA-cam just today. Check it out - you sure won't be disappointed: "You're The One""....
yesss!!! all instromental players yesss
Thank you - thank you - thank you!
I was hoping someone like this would come along and get rewarded for all the hard work they did and how they harnessed their talent. It especially pleases me that an American woman achieved this and was able to channel all the history through herself to a living presence she connects via historical and geographically particular instruments and her voice which sums up the musical tradition she is living today and transforms it into a relevant narrative - a new unpretentious world music she created. I am a very grateful musician fan.
I just found out about Rhiannon last night on The Daily Show! (10/18/23) I've been posting her music and history to everyone I now since. Phenomenal!!! Jon Batiste and her should collaborate if they haven't already!!!
She's a treasure and a wonder. Remarkable.
Bloody awesome👌💯👏
You are such a vibrant among person . Thank you wish you were at celtic connections 2024. What an inspiration you are a thousand million thanks yous.
A fine woman indeed , I can feel the history....
It was such an honor for Paul Simon to gift you his song. He knew what he was doing. I am so pleased that you have taken on the the responsibility of carrying it forward to the next generation, with your own spin. We must keep singing.
i was there. there were so many great performers in 22. but i will never forget hers.
It’s a treat every time I hear you sing!!! From:Fairmont in Westwood..
Any one have the opportunity to see Omar the autobiography of enslaved man Omar Ibn Said. Music by Rhiannon Giddens in the form of an opera. You will be amazed, educated and moved by this entire production. Entire ensemble is magnificent
I hope Jeff Petrocelli won some kind of award for this. The audio quality is ''perfecto.'' ...Listen to the bodhran resonate at 1:02:22 !
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Never heard her before
It seems I’ve not been on
this planet. She touches
the essence of our lives
since time began. Wow.
Nature can be wonderful if we treated fair. What a voice ,Thank you.Reminds me of Billie holiday.

Outstanding! She is a superb musician and vocalist!!
I luv RHIANNA GIDDENS. HAD TO HAVE HEART BROKEN TO SING FROM THE HEART LIKE SHE DOES❤
Much of this music makes me want to storm a castle.
Would love to see Rhiannon come to Australia and meet up with the Bush Wackers ...that would be awesome

This wonderful, rich voice reminds me of Buffy Saint Marie ♥️
Or Odetta Holmes. Same pure emotion and naked soull
Love this trio combination.
Simply incredible, amazing, thank you for being so great
Having grown up listening to my parents' and grandparents' music from the '20s, '30s, and '40s, I could have told ya this song was older than Eric Clapton. The Googles can be wrong, and Rhiannon Gidden is brilliant.
So wonderfull music! Thank you!
First rime I heard her I was looking for the best rendition of Wayfaring Stranger and ran across her on UA-cam with her fretless banjo and and old white man on an accordion. It was haunting.... I was hooked..
She's keeping those Appalachian and those old Black slave songs alive .. Growing up in Florida we were taught them in school... though slavery is a grimmer subject, it produced some of the best music which in turn is the basis of blues , which it and Appalachian , which comes from Ireland and Scotland, is the the basis of all the music we know in America today...
Wished she would take up the penny whistle, aka tin whistle..... that would be so awesome..
Music we have today is such a mix of different cultures from around the world. The history can be very interesting to study. Its a mix from Asia, Europe, Caribbean, Americas and yes Africa. Place like Spain, Persia, Southern USA and West Africa. Just tracing the history of stringed instruments takes you to many places in the world. From the harp to Oud to the lute to ukulele to the banjo to the guitar of today. Giddens reminds us of the African connections and contributions. But we also hear contributions from places like Brazil for example. Music is best served like a Gumbo.
The greatest thing about music is the shear variety of genres
Looking forward to seing her live in Dublin 2024 got the tickets, Christmas present.
you can take my body, my bones but not my soul ... chilling lyrics. hard to listen to... yet an amazing song!
Happy to have seen Ralph Stanley sing 'Death' (and other O' Brother songs) at the Philly Folk Fest. I really like Rhiannon's version.
Wow! Lovely!!!!
WOW! It doesn't get any better than that!!
Excellent
She sings with her face and with an awesome voice.
"Bluegrass and Brazilian Forró connecting the roots". I thought this is a kind of my impression when Istarted listening to Bluegrass music , but it's Real....a kind of "collective unconscious" ..... love it.
everything I have heard from Rhiannon speaks to me. sometimes it is just her tone. Loved her in Carolina Chocolate Drops and with many others, her work on Dylan's words in basement tapes, Allison Russell, and her solo work is great!
Brilliant start to finish. I'm not a big fan of according, but this Brazilian style is great! I'll never say I dislike accordion again.
Its so nice Art of music. She is very talentiert. Its so cool
Wow wow wow...
GODDESS !!!
Amazing person. X
❤❤❤❤
pure. clean. heartfelt. quality. nice to not hear all the other instruments and voices for a change. I still like mainstream of all genres too.
Such beautiful music, thank you! BTW, Chris Thile says that contemporary bluegrass is defined more by instrumentation than anything else, which I think is a great definition.
💜🙏
💯
has that unique sound of bluegrass. Very Unique
Can anybody tell me the name of this waltz?
Amusing music, it's true that Riannon Giddens at Talens, very pleasant performance.💥👍
Well to be fair to Clapton, on the original record regarding the song "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out", ( I went and looked through my collection) he gives the credit to the song to someone named "Ronnie Cox". I never thought he wrote it as it sounds like an "old song". even the music. It may be one of those songs that would just have to fall under "traditional". It doesn't sound pre 20th century though.
Written by Jimmie Cox (July 28, 1882 - March 3, 1925) in 1923. Bessie Smith made it a hit when she recorded it in 1930 during the Depression.
It's not usually my music, but I like Rhiannon, is that true?
don't put it in a box
Rhiannon, you are an amazing performer. I love your unique stage presence, and you are so very talented! You've got the attention of this old lady for sure, love ya! ❤
I love playing guitar to “Your the One” Rhiannon!🙋👍👏
Esperando El Momento De Poder Verte En persona Mi Amor
Do we know the tuning of her banjo?
I have seen her retune it for different songs.
Female Bob Dylan....what a force!
She’s a good old Mississippi girl.
Rhiannon is from North Carolina!
Cued a mile fàilte
Musicians of this caliber are proof that aliens live amongst us and hide themselves in the arts and humanities on earth.
She sure has some very complementary musicians playing with her for this concert. Not great... but just right. Safe to say that Ms. Giddens has the juice, eh? Wow. Her voice along with her command of her various instruments is sort of dazzling at times. You're not sure if what you just saw and heard was THAT good. (I'm betting she was a pretty willful chile...) :--)
Once again, that warm woody sound of that upright bass is too low in the mix. It can't add its wonderful sauce to the mix if you can hardly hear it at all.
I'd give her flowers.....if she played didgeridoo I'd give her more flowers.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Mel Lyman may have reincarnated. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
❤🎉beautiful
Fair play xx
❤🎉😂😅😮😮please
