  • Japan is the world's third largest economy and its products and culture have influenced nearly all the countries in the world, including China. But China and Japan share some very difficult history, so how do today's young Chinese feel about Japan? In this video, Eileen interviews Chinese on the street and ask them the following questions:
    1. What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear Japan? 01:15
    2. Have you been to Japan? 01:54
    3. What is your impression of Japanese food? 03:25
    4. What is your impression of Japanese appearance? 06:26
    5. What is your impression of Japanese dressing style? 08:36
    6. What is your impression of Japanese personality? 12:08
    7. What is your impression of Japanese products? 14:41
    8. What do you think about Japanese anime? 19:30
    9. What influence do anti-Japan films have on how Chinese view Japanese? 26:26
    10. Have you thought about learning Japanese? 29:57
11: Anything you’d like to say to our Japanese students? 31:17

Hi there I’m a Chinese don’t worry. China has strong rule against foreigner being harm in any way. Also Chinese young people is very influenced by anime. If you go to bilibili which is Chinese versions of niconico it’s almost all about japan culture. Chinese people today are not caring about history in general. Japanese are welcome now days.

It's good to hear their honest opinions about Japan because I watch tv news and everyday I only see politics and no local people's personal opinions.
Also regarding daily TV news I hear a lot about bad mannered Chinese tourists throwing away garbages on the street, but most of the people from China I met in person are really nice and polite. So see for yourself, is really a good piece of advice.

Eileen, that was TERRIFIC! As always, you are so skilled at relatingto the people you interview. You make them feel comfortable but at the same time you push to get a good answer.. Also the way you handles the question of Chinese Japanese relations was great. I have many friends among both Chinese and Japanese, and I'm often confused by this problem, especially since my father and other relatives fought in WWII. The young Chinese who answered you gave some very thoughtful answers. I have not seen anyway who really gives a deep impression of China the way you do. Brilliant work!

Your channel is some of the best PR I've seen for China. The people are sincere, thoughtful, and often judge them selves as much as any other country. I'm too old and handicapped, but I would love to be 20 years-old and healthy... I'd visit China and see everything in a heartbeat. US culture is more 'pop', Europe is medieval... you guys were charting supernovas and working on artistic impression when others were living in huts. The US seems worried you'll take over... I prefer to see your videos and find Chinese that are intelligent, friendly, and considerate people I'd like to meet. Much respect to you.

    • @Mario-kf3ej
      @Mario-kf3ej 2 роки тому +1

no it cannot . Japan is thanks to video games (play station but not only) , manga and anime is no.1 cultural influencer in the world. Thier culture is well known everywhere be it Africa, USA, South America, EU, Australia or Asia itself. Frankly it is shocking that Japan culture is influencing even China which ... lets be honest is often very hostile to Japan for historical reasons. And add to that chinese great firewall ... and you still see those dudes knowing Japan VA's , games , anime and VP kek.
And Germany ... frankly they have hard time being culturally inflential even in Europe. And I tell you that as Germany's neighbor. I was to Germany enough times .
Btw I'm not trashing German Culture ... but there is like nothing outstanding about it and certainly it got absolutelly limited influence outside of EU. And by outstanding I mean stuff like Manga or Anime which everyone around world knows well.
Don't take is as attack, but you try to compare your culture to no.1 influencer in world. Nothing to back it.
Today in USA best selling manga ... single title got more sales than WHOLE USA comic industry together... just to repeat - single title in USA home ground.
The only thing relatable is that both Germany and Japan commited multiple attrocities against nations around them. Nothing to brag about really. And you didn't give us cute anime waifus as reparations.

But I have to say the difference isn't as remarkable as I expected - I'd say it's basically the same. It's still a different experience to really eat in Japan end experience the service culture and the table manners there though.

As someone who loves Japan (and, in fact, a Japanese woman) but also the People's Republic, I'm happy to see that the people asked in this video are rather positive about Japan. Being German, I can relate to Japan somehow: Both countries did terrible things in the past, but on the other hand this is nothing that people today are responsible for. It's a good feeling when people whose country once fell victim to yours nevertheless display an attitude of forgiveness. We (speaking specifically for Germany now) should never forget the crimes our country committed, but then again we're not guilty of it. Today's people are responsible only for present and future times, and that's why I hope that people can forget all their prejudice and feelings of superiority and anger from the past and so on and just get along.

Dude I'm British, I can tell you categorically no country is without shame, internets a wonderful thing, and we can all connect now and hopefully see how many of us have shared values, my only worry right now is with chinese censorship, but with VPN's I see a lot will get around it, advise for everyone, never follow everything your Governments say's, they have their own agenda and always think for yourself and ask questions. We should be Earthlings first and working together.....probably sound like some weird conspiracy nut now haha. My point is the worlds a smaller place than you think. Love one another.

Though I like Japan, there is a big difference between Germany and Japan regarding the war atrocities. Germany accepted their crimes and apologized.
Japan denies it and apparantly teaches the complete oppositie of their actions. They were 'rescuing' the other countries (at least according to what i've heard from other japanese).
Because they deny it, they won't apologise about it.
It's a shame but that is all politics.
All in all though, the people are nice and their many entertainment are great

      @@jyashin ok,which one is "Chinese" : 汉语,or 中文?

    • @jyashin
      @jyashin 4 роки тому

@@kokolexx 中文 is Chinese, the actual language. 汉语 refers to the entire spectrum of the spoken dialects. Sometimes you'll see 华语 used as a synonym for 汉语.
语 generally refers to a dialect family. For example, 粤语 is the Yue dialect family, which is notable for having Cantonese in it. There are 10 dialect families in Chinese, but Mandarin doesn't have a "语" translation.
Rather, mandarin is often called 普通话. However, 话 actually refers to a specific dialect (ex. 广东话 = Cantonese), so 普通话 in fact is only standard mandarin. The mandarin dialect family actually includes many dialects, notably Sichuan, Tianjin, and Manchuria dialects.
Non-mandarin dialect families are small enough that it identifies a region, with the dialects themselves being even smaller. For example, Cantonese is only spoken in the Bay area (Guangzhou to Hong Kong). But the mandarin dialects encompass huge regions, hence no "语" for the mandarin dialect family.
Combine with the overall non-interest of the anglosphere in learning the nuance of the Chinese language, and you end up with a mess of an English translation.
When people say "Chinese", "Mandarin", or "Mandarin Chinese", they're actually referring to "standard mandarin dialect of Chinese", which is 普通话. It should actually be called Putonghua, but use of the word hasn't caught on yet.
