Idk if anyone has said this, but it's not the gear but the chase of the gear that makes you better. You get the gear, that means you cleared the hard thing. You farm the gear, it means you're probably doing the hard thing optimally. Both the gear and the experience are what make you better.
Doesn't mean you are doing it optimally. It means you and your group had the fewest fuck ups or had a strat that worked for your specific comp and/or situation. Optimization comes from reclears. You get better gear, you can do it faster, push phases, beat dps checks or even just never see enrage timer again. These afford you more wiggle room in mistakes. But BiS is not useless, it may be for a big part of the casual player base, but BiS gives you an advantage on the next raid tier. Only at the end of an expansion is it really worthless outside of glamor, bragging rights, and just showing that you have a high level of skill at the game. But just play the content you want. I wish there were more gearing options and ways to get BiS but that's another topic.
@@Jedda678 I feel there can be varying levels of what can be considered optimized. in this case if you can consistently clear that would be optimized enough for me.
This shit is the dumbest new conversation. If you do end game content of course it matters. Its basically mandatory for ultimates on release and it makes criterion easier/faster
Haven't raided seriously in ages, but mechanics are always more important than stats. If you suck, you suck even with BiS. So BiS is mostly a crutch if you're just barely good enough. A better player wouldn't need the BiS. With that said, I also do not see a reason not to pursue BiS if you have time for it. It's going to make your life easier, so if that matters to you, do it.
Yeah especially as someone who likes to do fights for fun anyway, I might as well make it as comfy as possible haha the early prog experience is fun but not *all* the time
@@Sonicrida Exactly. Although I always found more value in trying to get better at the fights instead of getting better gear. The static I raided with all geared up with HP gear just to survive easier, not to beat the fight, but to get more time to actually experience the mechanics and get better. Sometimes we actually did beat the bosses with that gear though, but usually we just switched to our real gear once we felt comfortable enough and attempted it.
@@CottidaeSEA yeah that's the most fun thing for me for sure. Learning and experiencing the mechanics is just so much fun haha I try to blind fights when I can too
from my own experience I can't say that i've felt significant difference between true end game best in slot and the equivalent best in slot gear for the minimum ilvl to do said content. It's always come down to how well myself and my party members can work the mechanics of the fight. Maybe there might be a noticable difference if everyone had BiS, though I feel that would be a bit realistic because at that point most people probably wouldn't be interested in doing that fight anymore.
it only important at the start of a raid tier and ultimates, there isn't accuracy stat in the game anymore either so at least no one is getting a ton of points that get wasted because you have reached the stat req to hit a boss with out missing. Ofc u kill things faster out in the world, but everything else is level synced like you said, so no it don't matter to the majority of the player base, but in the end it comes down to a personal thing what an individual want to spend their time on, no answer is correct or wrong imo. Ive seen Destiny players wanting higher power level to grind, but the diminished return is insane, that either show a lack of understanding how a game works, or you just like to see the number in the inventory screen go up, giving a illusion that you get allot more powerful.
By definition; best in slot is usually useless. Best in Slot usually drops from the pinnacle content. If you already beat that content without that shiny item... what's the point of the item?
I love how people are actually talking about this now. Especially now in post-EW where there’s no exploration PvE zone to actually USE that BiS gear you farmed out. If ultimates are the “reason” for getting BiS, then gearing in the endgame is absolutely worthless for 90% of the player base. And farming BiS for the purpose of reclears is just plain boring. Huge missed opportunity and oversight on the game design.
Exploration zones were never the reason for BIS gear! Simply because it was never needed BIS gear was always for those who go for raiding...yeah, BIS gear was never important for 90% of the community but it still needs to be there for those 10% who enjoy endgame raiding. It's like this for most MMO'S
Crit savage would be more accessible and more popular if you could rez. They add that and many many more will play it. Hardcore players just swipe on, I know your opinion is probably different. If you can rez in 8 man you should be able to in 4 man that is harder. I also think it would be way more popular if it dropped the weapon upgrade item and even more so if it dropped a gear set.
Gah!, im so mad that they locked a sweet 660 item lvl tenacity tank torso armor to p11 savage and the alternative 660 that you can get with comedy tomes has critical hit as a stat instead!
I've found if you casually enjoy playing ff14 the bis for myself is the current crafted gear otherwise the chase for bis is pointless if you don't raid high-end content.
Unless you specifically want that gear for its looks or you think people are impressed by it, then yeah, BIS is completely irrelevant. You don't need it for anything, not even Ultimates. It's really no point in pursuing it unless you think the content is fun and the gear looks good, but that doesn't make it "relevant".
"you don't need it for ultimates either" yeah, go ahead and do some current ultimates with non bis gear and see how quickly you either get kicked or your squad fails because of failing the DPS checks. if you got a lot of gigachad players from for example LPDU, then yeah, you yourself might not matter that much, seen things die so fast that i couldn't believe it, yet even with that much DPS, phase 7 of DSR is still somewhat tight and with good DPS you can expect it to die shortly before the final sack mechanic starts happening, if DPS isn't good then you can expect it to either fail the DPS check or barely squeeze past it. ToP is still tight on DPS checks as what i've heard.
@@pineconerudy1519 hm, no, the game is dying because the “content” you’re referring to has been less and less with every expansion, and if you think I enjoy beating my head against 12 fights for 2+ years because there’s literally fuck all else to do then I’ve got a bridge to sell you.
