    Ludwig is very kind with his comments. His playing sings and his phrasing is completely natural - he does not sound as if he is TRYING to play - he just plays.

    Super helpful for my own upcoming Principal Cello audition preparation. Thank you, Maestro Quandt! For those interested: his pupil, Ms. Bourderionnet, is a fine professional cellist in her own right.

    I just performed the 5th Symphony just last Saturday and this is most interesting to watch after playing it (the conductor is a cellist so came up with similar ideas and the same fingerings as in this video).

    Personally, I've been trying to learn how to play this piece properly for year's on my cello. It must have been really cool to have Ludwig Quandt instructing the best of the slow movements of the Beethoven symphonies. Also, just look at those fingerings!

    Ludwig is wearing rubber bands on his 3rd and 4th fingers . Does anyone know the reason ?

    • @aristideduplessis8151

      He had an accident a few years ago and since then he's not been able to hold the bow "properly", so this is an "emergency solution" (his own words). He advises people to please not try to imitate it!!!

    WHAT IS ON HIS RIGHT HAND FINGERS?!?!?!

    • @trlewcun
      @trlewcun 7 років тому +32

      Some time ago Mr. Quandt injured a tendon in his right hand while chopping wood. Now he wraps a rubber band around the 3rd and 4th fingers on that hand and connects it to the bow so he is still able to hold it.

    • @niravb.patelmdjdfacsfclm4232
      @niravb.patelmdjdfacsfclm4232 10 місяців тому

      @@trlewcun wow! If I were a professional cellist of his caliber, I wouldn't take a risk chopping wood like that! From my experience in hand surgery, those types of injuries are hard to come back from yet still have the fine motor coordination to resume high-level activity such as cello playing.

    Would it be sacrilegious to improvise this into one long Cello Solo?
    Just put all Cellos on the stage. Would be awesome.

    In fact I do not care if "Steinway and Sons" is the preferred piano, as this is exactly what I assumed anyway . By the way: what about forte? Basically I would be more interested in the preferred döner provider and dentist. To be serious: I do not like this advertisement at the end of the video, especially as there is no pianoforte, but only two cellos.

    When he makes a correction he should let the pupil play that piece again to see if they've mastered it . He speeds through it all much to quickly .

    • @YueWang

      There's no need. A cellist as smart as Georgia Bourderionnet could easily understand everything Ludwig Quandt talked about in this video.

    Oink Oink. Quandt is not necessarily a second Jacqueline du Pre and his English is improvable. Fifth league at best.

    • @thomasbrogsitter361
      @thomasbrogsitter361 2 роки тому +6

      I completely agree. Neither is he a second Maximilian Hornung and his Suaheli might be very poor. But he can definitely share a lot of experience with this particular piece as principal cellist of one of the best orchestras in the world. When you hear him play a solo passage with Berlin Phil it's really outstanding. So please, do not mix things: Du Pre was a fantastic soloist and he is a fantastic and sensitive orchestra musician. And yes, his English is not the best, but I know many world class musicians with less knowledge in foreign languages. But they play and sometimes teach very well!!!
