I remember buying their 1st album back in around 2006. Fast, dirty, proper rock & roll, as a 20 year old i loved it. Still one of my favourite albums. The contrast with The Car is astounding. And I now can't stop playing this album. What a band.
I have no words that describe my love for this album. If the time is right, these songs will make me cry. Body Paint and Perfect Sense are my favorites on this record. So glad you got to experience this album. Such a beautifully created album.
I don't know if you would be interested, but since this is your first AM album, it would be cool to see someone go through their discography in reverse order
In this album, you can seeThe lead singer of Arctic monkeys combined their music with his side project "The last shadow puppets" sound. No doubt it's their best work to date.People have to always remember how they opened their first album "Anticipation has the habbit to set you up for Disappointment" try to be like this guy. Monkeys always try to give you something new with their stuff. It's up to you to take it or leave it.
Love it all but the one song I keep gravitating towards is Perfect Sense. The strings are perfect. I think it kind of makes sense to work backwards chronologically and listen to Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino next so you can see where the sound for the car, and the 'new direction' that, should you end up listening to all their albums, was born. Their earlier stuff would be too much of a contrast next to this album I think
So good! That's the actually the plan, I saw someone suggest it in the comments and I think that's a fun way to do it. Keen to check out tranquility base next
Please please do their other 6 albums, debut would be funny after hearing this one lol also my favourite is tranquility base hotel & casino please do it you'll love it
I'd think you'd really enjoy the album Seldom Seen Kid by Elbow if you loved this. The strings and composition are similarly stunning. First track is called Mirrorball as well (I think)
Its makes me so happy to see someone enjoy this album every reviewer called this album pretentious and boring but seeing you enjoy it as much as i do just brings a smile to my face.
I NEED to see you listen to the meeting place the last shadow puppets (the band hes in with miles kane) ESPECIALLY the end. The strings are just so amazing at the end. I LITERALLY cried like its so good OMGGGGG
I love your reactions to this! I saw Arctic Monkeys in concert last month - "Body Paint" was so much better live than the studio version! I look forward to when they release a live album with this new material. Their Royal Albert Hall live album is excellent.
The string arrangement this record was collaborative over frontman Alex Turner, long time producer/fifth Monkey James Ford, and an orchestra maestro by the name of Bridget Samuels. Excellent artists.
Their evolution reminds of Radiohead's really. I'm quoting someone else's comment on an AM video: they're all intelligent musicians; the music might change, but the quality stays.
Their first album is a rock classic, they have experimented a lot since then, but still brilliant. Glad you appreciated this, I love the strings too!
strings were soooo good
I love the fact this is your first Arctic Monkeys track. Amazing.
Working backwards is fun.
*album
That's the plan go back through their albums in reverse!
Humbug should be fun :)

"Gradually it's coming into view" is the highlight of the album for me.

@@cavemanjack Elbow and Arctic Monkeys are good friends - you will notice overlap in their sounds, particularly the later albums.

I am reacting the same way as you during this video, and I literally listen to this album every day. Vocally, musically, and lyrically beautiful

My third favourite by them

Im very keen to return to the world of arctic monkeys soon!
