Good lesson. You did a nice combination of the guitar and piano parts on the original recording. It is a bit mind blowing to realize this song is 42 years old as of this writing.
Listen to Andy play it live back in the early 80’s and then listen to him play it on the 2007/2008 reunion tour. I like the way he plays it, especially on the reunion tour.
Agreed, in the reunion he was doing these beautiful little fingerpicked arpeggios that nailed the vibe of both the original keyboards and added the Andy touch it needed (imo). One of the best guitarists ever to do it
Such a cool tune and the picking is quite a great training exercise. Happy to hear it's a series. Police are such a great band that are often overlooked. Cheers!
I love this song because it strikes a nerve with the insecurity associated with the risk of spilling your guts to a woman with whom your mesmerized. Its a rollercoaster ride of emotion that over takes your being and whisks you away. The symbolism is that of a passage from a classic piece of literature and the protagonist must come to grips with the fear of being alone in his journey.
Is the song in 440 tuning? It sound’s slightly out. Did the police do that? I know Van Halen early albums were a half step down but not to 440 tuning. I think Highway To Hell is also not in 440. Anyways, great vid.
I don't understand the verse and chorus pattern. I trying doing it by ear but I think I missing something. I think it's D down G down A up D down down up G down A up D down G down A up D down in verse section. Am I right?
Andy Summers doesn't play any of that from 3.30 to 5.15 in your video. That's played on a keyboard on the record. In fact I cannot hear anything what Andy did on the original record!!! I gather your just teaching everyone to play ELTSDIM on a guitar. Well done👍🏻

Anyways, great vid.
what really makes this song is Jean Roussels piano
Great content...but please put even just the basic chord shapes for reference.
Thanks 😊 please
Sting apparently wrote this is the late 70's, the "other" two didn't like the song, and Sting had to wait until Ghost in the machine to release this.

i think that is the piano that plays that part , not guitar
