I love this talk. Marcel, thank you for opening up with your beautiful and varied collection. I agree that it’s a great time to buy special and more limited pieces nowadays as Samuel said. (Thanks for the shoutout). Keep these great talks coming. Manor
Great to finally see Marcel‘s collection! Very down to earth considerate collection, much like him! I was very curious to see it since we met at the trip. Awesome job you 2! 👏🏼
This is literraly the perfect collection and mix of everyday writers and collectibles. Unbelievable and congratulations Marcel! Fantastic way to spend an hour after work. I recently got the Lamy Imporium in titanium and love the way it writes.
Keep the collector talks coming, I know they can be hard to put together regarding the logistics involved, but I think everyone enjoys them immensely, I know I certainly do. It is fun to "meet" other collectors and see the paths they have chosen to take in their collecting journey.
Love these Collector Talks. Thanks Samuel and Marcel. I am also an Otto Hutt fanboy. I appreciate your organized approach. Mine is similar, but the opposite. I love color, I look for fine art. I have almost no brown or black pens at all (I could make an exception for the GVFC Pen of the Year). I have lots of Italian pens, Visconti, Aurora and Montegrappa (and Scribo, Santini). They are usually the brightest ones. I seem to buy anything that has blue swirls, the astronomical look. I also enjoy ST Dupont, probably use the blue guilloche more than any other. (I think you might like ST Dupont.) Always great to see a person with a different perspective than my own.
It's interesting to see what well heeled European collectors look for in pens as well their strategies for collecting. In America we tend to look for exciting materials/colors - for me, I have three basic criteria that must be met for any expenditure on pens no matter the price: solid gold #6 or bigger nib (the soul of the pen), quality design using precious materials such as celluloids/gold/silver/ebonite/compression acrylics, and thematic connections for me (e.g., historical, literary, artistic). to answer your question: I love the three dimensionality of Montegrappa's Dante themed pens as well as the Chaos. Because they still use sterling silver overlays and intricate hard enamel work, I put their pens at the top of my "to collect" list!
I enjoy these collectors series, not just with the pens but their stories at the same time. I recently got hold of mb boheme rouge, do you recommend inking it with only mb inks or can i use also pilot iroshizuku in it? And would it not do harm to use pilot iro inks or is it safe to use only mb inks, because with boheme its hard to clean. Thanks
Fountain pens and watches are useless. We maybe love them because of that: they are beautiful and that's enough. After that, we buy them and make them useful. Now I don't see the time in my cell phone anymore, but in the watch I carry on my wrist. And I don't write on my ipad as often as before, but in a Rhodia notebook, using one of my pens. Like this guy, I moved from watches to pens, and my collections are also small.
Its so nice to see people collecting these things, especially when there are so much problems in the world, hunger, people starving, suffering with so many physical and mental illness that most people are experiencing. Materialism will never bring happiness, just look at this guy. Maybe this old man needs a girlfriend or boyfriend or both or even friends who aren't materialistic
Just because you don‘t have your life together and are frustrated about the world around you doesn‘t mean that other people shouldn‘t live out their passions. Such statements are always the mirror of people saying it. Instead of judging how other people should live their life or spend their money try to understand how you could improve yours, instead of spreading toxic judgements on others.
What is the most exciting piece of his collection?

He accquired all of these over a 15 month period?
IKR!!! Like 100K worth of pens--- well at any rate 50K prob alone on those collectibles...then all the others--some of which are not inexpensive!
Yep
@@SamuelNaldi Wow, he really jumped in with both feet, right into the deep end didn't he. Good for him, he has an amazing collection.
