USA CELL Activator - UPDATED USA Recipe only
Make this a little thinner than the pillow or paints.
3 Teaspoons Floetrol (USA)
1 Teaspoons Amsterdam Titanium White paint
4 drops Minwax Wood Conditioner
4 drops Liquitex Acrylic Ink - If you have it.
1/2 Teaspoon Elmers Glue-All
AUSTRALIAN recipe only for Cell activator - The Base pillow and Medium are the same as the USA recipe above.
3 1/2 Teaspoons Australian Floetrol - 1 Teaspoon Amsterdam Titanium White
I use at least one transparent color in my blooms. You can change the cell activator color, it seems only Amsterdam Paints work the best. Amsterdam Black Oxide and Amsterdam Titanium white works the best so far. I always cover my paintings with a box to help prevent cracking. You can add a little bit of retarder to the paints to help slow down drying.

Please remember I am going to change (update) the recipe in the description each time I improve it. So the video recipe will not be the same. The recipe in the video will also work though. The process will be. Please share with your friends and let them see this wonderful world of pouring! Don't forget to like and subscribe.
Thank you for posting this comment. I was reading through the comments hoping someone clarified which recipe to use.
Thanks for your efforts, it's a great help. ❤️
You are welcome!
Great tip about NOT torching the pillow paint,, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Helpful and this technique works well for bloom.
Thank you Tri!
Your recipe works better. Thanks for sharing.
Thank u so much for taking the time to post this! I got the best cells ever with your CA recipe and pouring medium recipe!
Great! I hope you looked at my latest update on the recipe.
Interesting tutorial.
The length of time the paints last depends on the type and quantity of preservatives they contain.
A single drop of peppermint oil can extend the life of 8oz of paint a week in the right conditions, it is often used in glues as a preservative, especially lickable glues on stamps and stickers.
Humidity, heat, cold, lighting, etc all play a factor in how long paints will last as does the storage containers.
Also always use store bought purified water if using water in the paints.
Interesting. Thank you.😊
Thank you so much for sharing your way to mix PM and Ca and pillow paint. I look forward to trying it. You did a great job. Thank you for sharing
If you try please make sure you use the updated recipe in the description.
New subscriber here!!! THANK YOU so very much for sharing the recipe that works best for you!!! I truly appreciate this. All this time I have been trying to get this look with my paintings, and I just didn't understand what was going on. I could never find a video that actually described in detail how to get the results, much less someone that went into great details in the description. So again, THANKS SO MUCH!!!
AAndrews , my thoughts also. So nice she went to the trouble of doing the video.
I just saw this comment. My pleasure hope you get great results. Thanks!
Thanks Elaine!
Love your instructions. Thank you very much for sharing.
You are so welcome!
New subscriber.I’m in the US.Thank you for sharing your recipe. Now I know where to start from.
Glad to help. Thank you Alpa.
Thanks so much Patty. Giving the recipes and explaining why they are used cleared up so much for me. Also letting us know if it's optional or what alternatives can be used. Invaluable really. Fantastic details in explanations with additional tips places where to buy things as well. Thank you thank you. Great job. Sandie
Thanks so much!
The Amsterdam white will cell with just water....have you tried that..It works for me,just like the lamp black does.
I will try that. Simple is good. Wow.
Yeah i have watched many artists on here now who have completely alleviated the need for all of the extra from the pillow paint to the wood stain
Great teaching😁
Thank you Sharon.
Thanks for the awesome video! Love your work!❤️
Thanks for watching!
So much excellent information!
Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!🙂
Hi Patty, went to Walmart today to get the Color Place Satin ENAMEL White paint you have listed in your written list of ingredients for the bloom recipe. It could not be found by me or the paint sales person because the Color Place Satin Interior paint does not say ENAMEL any where on the can, not even in the ingredient listing. You need to readjust your written list to delete the word enamel. I am the 2nd person writing about this to you. Just trying to help save time for all the newbees following you. Your channel is very informative. Thank you for all your guidance.
You are so right. I just changed it. The can I showed on the video is the correct one. I have never changed the pillow recipe. Thank You for catching that. Only the Behr paint says enamel.
Thanks soooo much for this video I’m in the US I did the course but I had a little trouble with matching the paint and this video helped me out I’m going staight to Lowe’s 🤩 I had to subscribe 👍🏾
You are so welcome!
Hi Patty. Thank you so much. Could you please show a photo of the containers of your supplies for bloom. I see it on thumbnail but can't see all labels. I would really appreciate it. About to place big order and don't want to make mistake irdering
I spell it out with brands in the description. I don't have the cans for everything anymore I have poured in other containers and in the description, it gives you some choices now for the medium. I do show each can in the video. Show me how your paintings turn out. Good luck.
Just signed up with your code.
Thank you! The Face Book group is very helpful. Enjoy!
Can't wait for your help to me now my fellow expirimenter! :)
Thanks a lot
Sure!
My goodness I wish there was a more simple way to get the bloom effect than all the videos I've seen with all the different ingrediences. I've purchased all this stuff over months but afraid to try and mix something up because I have to go back and find videos that are using the products I have. I mean it's like I need to type up a bloom recipe book so that I remember and or can keep up with the products and the measurements. One drop of this, two drops of this, one table spoon of this. It's frustrating and makes me wonder how do yawl remember what you are doing, do you keep trying and write down your measurements each time? I love the look of the blooms but thinking I should stick with resin art lol it's much more simpler. I want to take the Shelee course scared that to will be a waste of time if I don't write down the recipe(s) in saying all that I have a new found respect for you Bloom artist because it just seems like a lot. If I get involved my goal would be to set out to find a simpler way, with less ingrediences. Thanks for sharing Your technique and know that my hat goes off to you and all other bloom artist out here, I truely have a new found respect for you guys. In the midst of my frustrations I guess I'll try to toss something together with what I have, and just see what happens lol I have some of the things you've use here, wish this frustrated chic luck.
I hear ya! It took me a while to get it down. If you look at the bottom in the description I have a recipe you can print out. The blowing part matters too. A simpler way is to order Aussie Floetrol for $29 on ebay shipped for 500ml. See some of my other videos using this and for that recipe. I love resin also. Will be doing some of that soon. Thank you for watching.
@@PattyPuckettPouringArt I'm in the USA and just recently started to dabble in shelee art type pours from seeing people do their own version or a cross of a bloom and a regular pour and I'm 5 mths into paint pouring but figuring out how much a difference an exact brand or something is like floetrol compared to owatrol is killing me! I have the untinted house paint and the minwax polycrylic and the amsterdamn and the technique, now I just need to pick a house paint and I can start but they all have so many variations I feel like I'm looking at a million brands!
I will tell you that if you watch an artist name naptime she simplifies it down to just needing the amsterdam titanium white you should watch her it shocked me but it does work i have tried it
Go watch tammy anderson. She explains everything perfectly. That's how I learned
Great vid! Beautiful work!
Thank you Debbie
I’m going to have to watch this a couple of times to get all of these mixtures 😂geez
Make sure you look in the description to get the latest best recipe that has changed since this video. If you get Austrialin Floetrol from eBay you won't have to add all the other stuff to the cell activator.
New subscriber. Thank you, very informative. I have only done 1 set of coasters so far with this new technique.
Great! Keep it going and share it with me if you can.
Seems to be expensive and a whole lot of work for a beginner. But it does give beautiful paintings.
Hi Charles, Yes it can be. But each of those cans you see in the picture can last a long time and you can do a lot of paintings. Thank you!
Patty Puckett Pouring Art hope you didn’t take that as a criticism it was just an observation. Your video was very informing.
@@charlesschnardthorst7065 Not at all Charles. I mention in the video it is expensive especially when you experiment like I did. So buying the products in my video will actually save you money. Though it still is pricey.
.
First of all, Thank you for sharing! I have finally made my first attempt at a bloom pour with the above recipe but seem to have some issue getting the cells to stay. They are fairly small and even when trying to stretch them, they shrank back. Do you have any recommendations on how to get them to be larger?
Try a little thicker cell activator. If you haven't taken the Shelee course I highly recommend it. You learn so much! There is a FB group just for people who take it also. In the end it will save you because this video is almost 2 years old and so much has changed since then. So many new recipes. You can also look at one of my other recent videos with updated recipes. I pour everything on plastic sheeting and use those skins from all of it. Try it!
Some of the BEST pours I have are on the plastic sheet! wink wink
I also found these alphabet practice writing "cards" , size 9"X12", double sided, do not warp,at all, and I can peel off my skins and reuse them! I tossed most of them before I realized what I could use them for....very disappointed in myself for that one... sigh But I am always on the lookout for more. and different sizes.
I plastered one of them on a tall metal decorative floor vase, and my husband was floored at how great it was! He usually does not give a hoot!
Cool, you can also try pouring on tiles. I have a video on how you can get the skins off of the tiles. Sorry I just saw this comment.
What other paint brands work besides Amsterdam in the cell activator?
Also interested to know if you could refer me to your latest bloom recipe video...
I'm a new subscriber 🙂
Just click any of my latest Shelee Videos and the new recipe will be down in the description. Thanks for watching.
Hi, thank you for sharing your recipe. I too took the Shelee course and am in the US. I recently switched from ColorPlace to Valspar 2000. No problems with ColorPlace or any type of crazing, just prefer a whiter white than what it is, I am curious as to why you are using the Airbrush Extender?
I saw somewhere where it helps with cracking when drying. Since, I stopped using it with my latest recipe. I cover all my paintings with a box the first 24 hours. Gac 800 also helps with cracking. Thanks!
Triple thick turns yellow as it cures (it takes 2 week cure).
I have never used Triple thick. Thanks for the info.
I took the class. I don't do face book. Can't get blooms. Hope this helps. Thank you so much!
You are so welcome Linda. Make sure you look at the updated recipe in the description.
Cannot do s part 2. Sorry. I can't find part 2.
Not sure I know what you mean?? You can't see it? Or you can't do it?
Can't see it
Why glue all in cell activator? Thank u for your recipe/tips! 💞
The glue acts like a pouring medium. I just like the results better. If you use Australian floetrol you don't need to put anything in except the paint.
Ok. Thank u! It seems to work. So i will try...👍🤗💖
What kind of tails do you use? Can I go into Home Depot and just buy white tiles? Like the kind you’re going to put up in your bathroom?
Yes they are about 8 cents each. Or Lowes.
Good morning question with cell activator. And pouring medium is that only for balloon technique? Are all pours . Thank
This is for the Shelee Bloom Technique. But you can use it nicely in a swipe or spin also. It would be too thick for a flip cup or Dutch Pour. Check my other videos for those recipes. Mostly use Just Floetrol and water for most pours.
Hi. I’m not seeing that you can find the Behr Premium Plus Deep Base 8300 on the net (in US). Any suggestion on what to use instead?
You can also use HGTV Ultra Deep Base from Lowes or Glidden Semi-Gloss Base 3 untinted from Home Depot. Recipe is in the description of the video.
@@PattyPuckettPouringArt thanks for replying back. Unfortunately the HGTV is out of stock with Lowes and can only find the Glidden semi-gloss base 3 in exterior paint. Who knew it would be so hard to get these supplies. I look forward to creating blooms but guess will have to wait. I had just signed up for the Shelee Art e-course yesterday.
@@kmarks4748 It's always hard because the paint names change and they discontinue. If you sign up for the class and get on the FB group there are other recipes you might have luck with finding.
Walmart Color Place is the way to go
Yes it is! THanks Judy.
You use such a variety of products in comparison to others which has prompted a zillion questions in my mind motivating me to learn the chemistry behind the concoctions people are using so I am not just buying a bunch of stuff. Have you seen anything about the chemical make-up and interactions of all these substances?
No I'm not that scientific. I learned from experimenting and getting some ideals from the private Facebook group that Shelee Art has. I have tried different products and recipes and for now the recipe in the description works the best for me with USA products. Of course if you use Australian Floetrol the cell activator recipe would only be 2 products.
Have you seen shelees new video? Really fluid with big cells. Its pretty.
Yes, ordered me some Aussie Floetrol finally.
Do you think it's that?
Let us know how you like it.
@@weegie2818 Not sure
Patti, I accidentally purchase in paint with a primer, I have already mixed a batch of the pillow paint. Is there any thing I can do to counter act the primer that is in the mix? Than you for your help.
I have heard people use the paint with primer. Try it. Nothing to counteract it. You may want to just experiment and see what you get. Let me know.

ua-cam.com/video/a3opeeouj28/v-deo.html Yes.
Question: I varnished my pictures with polycrylic. Can I put resin over it after it has dried with polycrylic?
Hi Laurie, Yes you can! Make sure any oils from your hands aren't on the piece.
how nessasary is the alcohol ink and if that important does it have to be acrylic alcohol ink
No Alcohol ink, only Acrylic ink. It is not necessary.
When you used the white Amsterdam, can you use different colors instead of white? I’m almost positive you’d be able to, but wanted to check
I would say yes. I love the Amsterdam Black, but I haven't tried other colors yet.
Just make sure it’s opaque, the denser the better
How do you thicken the paints if they are coming out thinner than the cell activator?
Sorry just saw your comment. I add more thick Behr untinted base.
THANK U! No substitute for black Amsterdam? And the Oxide black only? Thank u again!💖💞
I have only used the Amsterdam Black Oxide. Try another black and see.
I have tried various blacks. Didn't work. I used white Amsterdam. Worked. Didn't have black Amsterdam. What do they have in that paint? THANK U 4 replying!💚💙💜
Please tell me ,the Minwax® Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner, is oil based or water based ?
It has a strong smell. I think it is oil based. Use very little.
I cannot find the Josonja varnish here in Canada. Would the Minwax polyurethane water based varnish be equivalent?
Yes, you can use that. Thanks for watching
Is Liquitex varnish and gloss medium the same as Creative Inspirations that you are using?
Look at the recipe in the description. Whenever I change anything to improve it I change it there. I am using Jo Sonja Varnish now. I would say to try what you already have.
Is the minwax wood conditioner water based because that darker label says oil based when I google it and the label that is light yellow on the minwax says water based. Anyone please let me know thanks.
I think it is Oil based. Has a strong smell. I use very little. Using Australian Floetrol is best to use.
I can't find any colorplace white paint, everywhere is out of stock... what can I replace it with?
Glidden Premium Eggshell is wonderful!
(**Home Depot)
***Sherwin Williams Color to Go “Reflective White”
(*** SW store)
@@PattyPuckettPouringArt thank you
What is the ratio of medium to acrylic paint?
It really depends on how thick your paint is to begin with and how pigmented your paints are. A good guide would be 3 parts medium to 1 part paint. Adjust consistency to a thicker one. Use more Poly Crylic to make thinner. More medium to make thicker.

Where can I find the Behr Premium Plus High Gloss Enamel Deep Base 2-8300? I can not find it anywhere that sells the Behr products. Do you know if any other untinted enamel paint would work?
Hi, I heard you can use this you can use HGTV Ultra Deep Base from Lowes also and Glidden Semi gloss Base 3 untinted also works. The HGTV is in my recipe down under the video. I always update when I change anything. They stopped making the Behr now I think.
On the medium is 50 % Behr High Gloss and 50% of minwax polycrylic. I have a note to self that says 25% minwax? I am confused
Thank you, you are great...
I do update my recipe the latest is in the description. Whenever I change and it works better i update the recipe in the description. Medium to mix with colors - UPDATED
50% Behr High gloss Deep base 8300 enamel. Not colored
25% Minwax Polycrylic
25% Jo Sonja Varnish
You can use any gloss polyurethane that is water-based. Thank You.
you probably wrote down the minwax stain conditioner....
Why are these commonly done on small tiles and not canvases?
Hi Andra, Well when this video was first out everyone was just learning this technique, so you have to blow with your mouth. Now that we know of the swipe with cell activator we are doing bigger pieces now. Coasters also sell well resined. Check out my other Shelee technique videos on canvas.
Do you use a respirator given all the chemicals you inhale/are exposed to?
No I don't. Not with Acrylic pouring, only the 2 drops of the wood conditioner is the only thing that has a odor. I do when I work with resin. Really no odor when It's all mixed up and when I am pouring.
I can’t find the behr 8300 online - I accidentally bought it in white, mixed it with the recipe you provided down below and it was SUPER thin. Obviously it’s wrong because I got white but is the 8300 supposed to be thicker too? Do you have a link to the 8300 and what can I do to thicken the medium?
Yeah sorry, you needed the non-colored 8303Behr. I use Golden gel gloss to thicken sometimes if I use pigments if I feel it's too thin. But, that is expensive, so I would just try and get the correct Behr. Or see if you can get Sherwin Williams HGTV Ultra Deep Base. Some people have luck with that one as well. No color. Good luck, hope you find it.
Patty Puckett Pouring Art thank you. I looked up the sherwin Williams too and just can’t find one that’s non colored. Are you able to provide a link? Maybe It’s just right under my nose!
Sherwin Williams description is “tintable white latex”
Annie Jacobson Loews sells the Sherwin Williams. I bought mine two weeks ago
Hi there. Do you know how to buy the Australian Floetrol from U.S?
I buy it on EBAY. Takes about a month to get here. $29 for 500ml
I live in Los Angeles county where they banned oil based pre-stain. Does water based work or am I going to have to look outside the county?
Can you not still just order it off of Amazon? Thats where I got it.
So sorry I just saw this comment. Home Depot should have it. Maybe outside your county?
@@Phosphene_Dream I an not sure, I'll have to check it out. But California is so strict on things it might not be possible.
@@PattyPuckettPouringArt I was looking on their site and it looks like Orange County, and Riverside County don't sell it either. The closest I could find was Bakersfield which is over a 2 hr drive one way. Maybe I'll look when I head to the Bay Area to see my dad.

Pillow 90 per cent Satin ENAMEL. Is that right?
Yes and about 10% Gac 800. For the Pillow.
Do not look for ENAMEL. It is labeled Color Place Interior Paint White Premixed Satin and does not say enamel.
Sorry, It does not say enamel. Just the Behr High Gloss says Enamel.
