You're right about the people. They're amazing and incredibly friendly but also look out for your welfare and genuinely want your time in Cali to be enjoyable and safe. I'm Australian but my wife is originally from Cali so the city holds a special place in my heart.
Watching from NYC, Im Dominican...I already went to Cartagena and i stayed in boca grande witch is 10 mns or less from the tower clock, i felt very safe... then Medellin and i stayed en el poblado very safe too...and my next trip will be Cali GOD willing...love Colombia...they have this lemon juice with coconut milk...mama mia, delish....o la cazuela de mariscos in cartagena is like a soup with sea food but the twist is the coconut inside...ymmm... great video!

You cite venues for salsa but I remember Colombia for its original cumbia, surprised that this native music isn’t highlighted. It’s still a favorite of mine. For another specialty try a shot of aquaardiente. It’s flavored from anis seed and literally means firewater. Not sure if it’s local to Valle del Cauca or national.
Hi! Just curious where you found that Cali is the safest city in Colombia? I will be traveling in July and everywhere I research, it says that Cali is the most dangerous city in Colombia.
Online has conflicting information. Make sure to look over more than 1 article. There are parts to every city that are not safe to be in, so research where you will be staying.

My girlfriend is from Cali and it's definitely dangerous if you go to the wrong area at the wrong time. It's more dangerous than Medellin (and also smaller than Medellin)

- La Feria de Cali it's in December, not September.
Cali is larger in area but Medellin has more population
