I’ve never heard of Dura-lar until I saw you working with it on IG and it sparked my interest heavily. This walk through helps get an even better understanding for it, I’m especially loving the possibility of working on both sides and not giving up your detail work for full coverage color. Thank you so much for sharing your work steps with us
This is a truly GREAT video. Your willingness and ability to explain your process is awe-inspiring. And, of course, the finished art itself is spectacular. Many thanks.
HOLY SHIT THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING 😱😱😱 Thank you so much for sharing this process! I've never seen this process done before with the Duralar paper (never even heard of the paper before!) You shared some amazing techniques that are really handy to know, thank you so much for sharing this! It's crazy techniques like this that is getting me really excited about getting started with traditional art. I've always been a digital artist, and I'm starting to figure out how much I've been missing out on! There are so many options and effects you can create :O
Wow, that’s pretty amazing! Your art inspires me so much. I’ve started drawing only a year and a half ago so I have a looong road ahead. When I watch a lot of tutorials and people drawing for work ut’s really easy to forget that even a professional artist can just sit and create something for himself because he enjoys it. Thank you for the time you’ve spent on making this video, we really appreciate that
Loving your work so much!, and how you think of your process as "analog photoshop". Thanks for sharing. It was very interesting and fulfilling to watch.
Awesome stuff! I have a couple of questions. 1) what kind of dip pen did you say you were using? "Neco"? and 2) why is this in the "Autos & Vehicles" category?
Nikko 'G' nib gets most of the use. And I don't know why it is in autos! I have another channel for cars and guitars, must've mixed categories! Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
Either thickness of the Matte Duralar. The thinner one will let you see the work on the back a little more through the front, but it isn't a massive difference and you can still see the back side work through the front even with the thicker. Naturally with both it will be lighter than the way you see it on the back. So a pure black on the back will be a grey on the front.
Sometimes I paint the back with gesso to make it all white. Othertimes it is just a piece of paper sandwiched in there, which is kinda fun because you can chenge the color of the paper.
Awesome work... . Always wanted to try duralar with ink so thanks for sharing your art and commentary! Will you be selling this particular image or prints of it?
Acrylagouache is a hybrid between Acrylic and Gouache. Doesn't change color when drying as traditional gouache thankfully, but is a matte finish and is stable and can't be reactivated with water like gouache.
I leave it unvarnished back there. Though it wouldn't be a bad idea to varnish it! It is much harder to get paint off Duralar than you would think though, as evidence by the Nail Polish remover, lol.

Love how this art really pops off the page. Lovely piece
The warmth in this piece is very peaceful even tho there's violence coming from the 🐅.

Hi Scott, what grade duralar film do you use when combining with oil paint?
Either thickness of the Matte Duralar. The thinner one will let you see the work on the back a little more through the front, but it isn't a massive difference and you can still see the back side work through the front even with the thicker. Naturally with both it will be lighter than the way you see it on the back. So a pure black on the back will be a grey on the front.
I'm curious as to how you do the final framing; do you permanently attach a white background sheet or do you just frame with a white sheet behind it?
Sometimes I paint the back with gesso to make it all white. Othertimes it is just a piece of paper sandwiched in there, which is kinda fun because you can chenge the color of the paper.

Yes This is for Illuxcon this week. Keep your eyes out for a print announcement in the next couple days.
Scott Fischer thanks man! I'll keep an eye out for it :)
Beautiful work! :D 💞
What kind of varnish do you use?
I use Gamvar Varnish!
I use acrylic and I've used guache. What is "acryliguache"? Who makes it? It doesn't come up in google.
Acrylagouache is a hybrid between Acrylic and Gouache. Doesn't change color when drying as traditional gouache thankfully, but is a matte finish and is stable and can't be reactivated with water like gouache.
Thanks for sharing Scott, curious to know, do you leave the underside unvarnished? Or do you hit it with varnish as well?
I leave it unvarnished back there. Though it wouldn't be a bad idea to varnish it! It is much harder to get paint off Duralar than you would think though, as evidence by the Nail Polish remover, lol.
Gotcha, thanks for the reply!
I almost cried when you got rid of the first face but the second one was definitely better
I swear--acetone is the answer to everything. It removes just about anything.
Do I message you here for questions or in Instagram, here’s mine Incase you do respond. @jerryalvareztattoos
I check IG much more often, but have been trying to get here once a day, thanks!
