The WRC is the FIA World Rally Championship, a tough motorsport using rally cars on real roads around the world. Watch the best rally drivers battle on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat! Watch high speed action as the rally drivers power slide and drift round narrow corners, go flat out over a big jump or through a watersplash, handbrake turn round a hairpin, survive a big moment, or have a massive crash! Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion.
Each rally has timed sections called special stages, on closed roads. Drivers complete these stages as quickly as possible. A co-driver reads pace notes that explain the hazards ahead. Rally drivers use the same rally car to travel to each stage on public roads, following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Championship points are won using the same scoring system as Formula 1. The championship is administered by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body.
Over 30 countries have hosted WRC rallies. Rally Monte Carlo, Rally Argentina, Rally Finland, Rally Portugal, Tour de Corse on Corsica, France, Rally Sardegna on Sardinia, Italy, Safari Rally in Kenya, Acropolis Rally in Greece, Rally New Zealand, Rally Australia, Rally Japan, Rally GB, Rally Catalunya, Rallye Deutschland, Rally Mexico and many more.
Some of the world's greatest drivers have won the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, like Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Petter Solberg, Ott Tänak. The list of world rally champions includes many Finnish rally drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm, Hannu Mikkola. French drivers have had success with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times world champion Sébastien Loeb. Famous drivers from other motorsports have come to try rally driving like Ken Block from Rallycross, and Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1.
Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers awarded to the most successful WRC constructor. Winners include Citroen, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Ford have had success with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta when the M-Sport team won in 2017.
The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro.
Japan dominated the 1990s with the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla. Toyota returned to the WRC in 2017 with the Toyota Yaris WRC, winning in 2018. There's so many great moments in Neste Rally Finland over the years. I remember back in the days where 4 first drivers timed the same time (in tenth of a second) in quite a long SS. When interviewer asked Kankkunen how this was even possible, Juha answered: you cannot drive it any faster ;-)

Somehow I only need three gears on the street, since It's not necessary to shift to 4th gear until 100kph in my forester
@@emeryguo5158 nessesary? Is It really redlining when youre doing 100kph in 3rd? My 206 does 100kph at redline when in 2nd, ~140 in 3rd.
For a country its size, Finnish drivers in my opinion are the best overall drivers in the world. Yes other countries have more F1 and other league winners, but for the amount of champions Finland has for only 5 million people is incredible.
I must admit I'm proud of finnish drivers. It's almost unreal to have Top rally drivers and 3 Formula 1 champions as we only have some 5.5 million people in this country. It must be in our genes.
I think its the quality of the levels of driving expected as a learner. When you add the weather you guys get i bet it makes lots of great drivers 👍

I love how we get the footage of Hirvonen hitting a camera on the side of the road and then see a footage of him driving with a broken windshield.
The last clip reminds me of the one time I drove my 307 through fast mountain roads, using only the first 3 gears for the whole 50km+. The car failed emission control a few days prior, so I was advised to burn the sediment in the pipes by driving the engine in a higher rev range. So I did so, pushing the car as high as 5000 rpm (which was literally as high as it went, despite the rev counter being marked all the way up to 6000), and the emissions result afterwards turned out better than ever before. Gotta say it was pretty hard to keep my right foot steady, going 90 kph in the second gear, a small lift off caused the car to slow down massively :D

Came across a finn driver in car video where he never hits the brakes through all the turns using only the throttle and weight transfer of the car. Definitely a whole lot of sisu if I spelt that correctly.

Man give me back the golden era of Gromholm, Solberg, Loeb, I could go on but those were the main guys I think about when I think about growing up watching WRC. I remember Loeb dominated the way Lewis Hamilton dominates F1. But I always cheered for Solberg bc I was a Subaru fanboy
IMHO Finland is the absolute best rally-country but I believe Basti Loeb is the bestd driver ever.

I know that Lahti is in the area but can we have WRC Poland, Subcarpatia, only asphalt routes. Nice places we could even to a tam and 180 but it is up to the science, nice place ready to cooperate on this.
In Finland in order to get your driver license. You have to learn to put your car in a 360 spin and regain control, same with drifting a corner. Idea is they want drivers to be able to control their cars when they lose traction. Finland has some of the best racecar drivers and one of the lowest car accidents.
