Airbags in cars take care of absorbing the shock of a crash, before the persons in the vehicle take the full impact. The same principle applies to ventilated storm windows and leaving the window open. The downfall, is that you need to remove all valuables & breakables; as the wind may create a turbulent, especially in a closed room. The idea is to allow the wind to evacuate (unlike a fire). In that if the winds come from the north, allow an overture south, etc. Don't block a force (wind is a very strong force) inside a box. It will explode. That is to say, allow the winds to escape.

I’m staying........24 hours later....hello 911 I need help!!! My house is flooded and I am trapped on the roof!!! Send somebody to help me please!!!! 24 hours after that.....on the news of course “we were trapped for hours and thought we were going to die. We kept calling 911, but no one ever came to save us until today. It was so scary, but why it took so long for help to get to us is beyond me, people needed help and the police were nowhere to be found”.
ABC News is doing excellent storm coverage. Most of the other networks could learn a thing or two about covering hurricanes from ABC here. They let the weather do the talking and had a meteorologist calmly deliver useful storm safety advice.
I'm in Polk County, Florida and am hoping all Floridians are safe from this storm. We took a huge hit from Irma last year and that was scary. We are a tough bunch here in Florida.

Not to mention that there are two other empty tripods there which means they didn't move all the equipment to a safe place (only leaving one camera). They're still standing there and may have "run" when the building fell down at the end.

The other cords you see are going to the broadcast truck. And panning isn't controlled by wires as the cameras are locked off when not being touched... It's pretty obvious as well that the camera is hand held.

After Hurricane María struck us in Puerto Rico with cat 5 intense winds (eye landfall was weaken cat 4) it makes you feel sorry for everyone who have to deal with these disasters. Prayers for them.
In Norway where I am from, such storms, but of local kind, tend to pop up from clear sky and do a lot of damage. For some strange reason, they never get great coverage in the media, even though whole villages may have been destroyed. These events are most common along the west coast, but I have experienced them inside the eastern part of the country. Now I live in the Caribbean area, but in a shielded part, We always get some of these storms, but only in moderate degree, not like you see in Florida, and in parts of Norway.
Right now many Norwegian valleys experience massive damaged due to uncontrollable floods after heavy rain, but this time not so much storm. At other times great areas dry up and are prone to massive wild-fires that also destroy whole villages.

eathrquakes by far, my city (Acapulco) has been hit by cat 3 and 5 hurricnes and nothing really happened expept by lost of flood
