    I would really like to see you guys do a price breakdown between the Bison ZR2 that you did in this video and a Colorado ZR2 adding in what you would really like from the Bison as options. For example with the protection plates, without the AEV bumpers or whatever you guys like. I appreciate the reviews from guys that own the truck and have modified it.

    Chevy has a definite winner on their hands. I could see some Tacoma owners trade their trucks in for a new Colorado. Every Toyota Tacoma owner wants 35s and a front locker on their truck, but it takes a lot of work and money to make that happen.

    I bought the 23' Colorado ZR2 a few months back. LOVE IT! Got it for below MSRP; about 49000. Traded my '16 Colorado Z71 in and got 14000 for it. At the time, it was between the ZR2 or wait until the Tacoma TRD Pro came out. I wasn't a fan of how the Tundra looks, and the Tacoma looks like a baby Tundra. When I saw my dealership had the first and only ZR2 coming into my area, I pulled the trigger and got it. Happy I did. Seeing the price of the new Tacos really affirmed my decision as well. I also like the feeling of having a unique truck. I'm sure some of it is due to the strike, but I've seen other versions of the Colorado, but haven't seen any other ZR2s yet in my area.

    I bought a 23 ZR2 and I'm looking forward to being able to add a few AEV bits a la carte. I really love the look of the front and rear bumpers!
    This ZR2 Bison will likely be price competitive with the new Tacoma Trailhunter but offers so much more capability! It's a bit spendy for my blood but may prove to be a good value if you want it all from the factory.

    Under "Dealer-Installed/Exterior/Performance" there's an option for the AEV snorkel. Though I believed its flipped from the last gen. I could only find a protype image for the canyon sporting it though.

    I just recently test drove a 2024 ZR2 Bison. My opinion was Chevrolet knocked it out of the park. I loved it! With 1-2 exceptions. First I will say I had a 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro that I drove 63k. Did not like the drivetrain at all even tuned and leg room at 6’2” was terrible. Fuel milage in MO and KS in wind and hills was terrible. So i traded it for a 21 Colorado ZR2 diesel. So far I love it. Have had it a little over a year with 27k. Fuel mileage is awesome, leg room awesome. Power is awesome. Did GDE tune, AEV skids, 275/70/17 tires on Crestone wheels and I get 22mpg in town and 26-29mpg highway. BEST stock was 32mpg on a 500 mike trip from Dallas to KC MO.
    Now for the 1-2 exceptions. The price and the fuel mileage. 64k with high interest rates is just crazy and the fuel mileage of this turbo 4 is terrible.
    If i were buying a new truck. It would definitely be the new Bison or ZR2. It’s a phenomenal vehicle. If they brought the diesel version they are selling in Brazil Id buy one NOW.
    If I didn’t need the fuel economy and the economy was pre covid Id be buying the gas version.
    If I had a gas Colorado Id probably upgrade if the pricing were better but I could go ZR2 to alleviate the price point.
    I was very impressed with the new Bison. Fit and finish, ride quality leg room power etc etc was really really good. Couldn’t believe it til I drove it.

    These midsize truck prices are just nuts. I understand we’ll never see prices from 2019 ever again, but it’s wild to think how inflated costs have become. New 23 tacos sitting on lots in the Midwest being discounted to $40k for TRD Off Roads. Can put $10k in upgrades on it and still save. These turbo 4’s may not hold up compared to the days of v6 or a turbo diesel 6 cyl. Have a 2015 wk2 ecodiesel with 170k on it and I’m just gonna milk it as long as I can.

    First off, I love these discussions. I feel like you all bring a regular person view point to many topics. A live stream would be fun.
    Second, I am wondering if Chevy is thinking about getting more into the off-road race scene. I know they had one Colorado in a race (Vegas to Reno?) that broke the frame. 35s is a common max size for "stock" classes in several major race formats.
    Third, doesn't the Gladiator Baja have bump stops? Idk what kind, but I remember them getting those and extra stiffening welds on the frame.

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  9 місяців тому +3

      Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed the conversation. I don't follow it too closely but I know that Chad Hall races a Colorado in the Mint 400 and other races. Yeah the broken frame situation is apparently why the ZR2 was delayed a bit. It uncovered a weakness that was remedied on all the trucks after that... which is good because the last Colorado had a tendency to bend frames (which is why we did a video about frame stiffeners).
      Not sure on what bump stops the Gladiator can come with. I added progressive "SumoSpring" bump stops to my Tacoma. They're great for the money and made a noticeable improvement... but don't really compare to the crazy hydraulic ones on the Bison. I had never experienced something like that before and it blew my mind.

    • @aevnate4140
      @aevnate4140 9 місяців тому +1

      You must be thinking of the Gladiator Mojave. It doesn't come with hydraulic bump stops, but a nice set of Fox shocks that are 2.5" in diameter. Another weird thing about the Mojave is that it doesn't come with a front locker.

Two comments, I'm in snow/slush salt belt Canada and wonder about 315 mm wide tires in the winter crap. Second, in some markets GM has option T79 which is a rear fog light incorporated in the driver's side tail light. If GM would just include T79 as standard equipment in N.A. I love Toyota... don't get me wrong... but I feel like Chevy is possibly going for the value proposition. Not the Bison perhaps the the 2024 TRD OR vs a ZR2... you get more for your money with the Chevy. Which is better made and lasts the longest? Remains to be seen.

    I'm planning on getting a 2024 ZR2. Is the Bison worth another almost $12k (putting it in Ranger Raptor price range) without a twin-turbo V6 engine upgrade (the 'Raptor makes another 100hp)? Ahhhh, no. I'll see if I can't just get a lift to put 34's or 35's on it, get a skidplate for the gas tank and rear diff, and it'll be 90% of a Bison for $8k less.

      Adding 35’s was a pricey project on the last gen Colorado ZR2. You’ll likely need to buy a fender kit, either do a fair amount of labor (cutting the body) or paying someone to do it for you, some sort of lift (hopefully maintaining your already excellent suspension), along with the cost of the tires. And don’t forget a tune to reprogram your speedometer and other things.
      I’m not saying have to get the Bison package. But if you plan on 35’s I’m guessing you’ll end up spending the same amount in the end… without a warranty on any of it.

      Watch the videos we did about fitting 35’s and re-gearing for a picture into what it might take. 👍

      @@JasonExplainsThings I think it'll be quite a bit cheaper because as I understand it the 2024 Bison only requires 1/2" or 1" lift (can't remember - maybe $2k with install) and different fender flares to fit the 35's, maybe wheels with different offset, but I can get those cheaper NOT from AEV. So, I'll save in not buying the fancy seatcovers, fancy bumpers, super expensive boron skidplates, etc. If I can go with a 34" tire without a lift AND if it fits underneath the bed by simply deflating the tire a little (I've seen that trick used before) instead of having to put it in the bed, then I might go that route. $12k is a TON of money for no engine upgrade. At that price I'd certainly go with the Ranger Raptor and another 100hp.

      @@JasonExplainsThings I could be wrong but I don't think the Bison is re-geared for 35's.
