I also saw Lefty, backed up by a local band in a small club in 1965 . Very cordial and generous with his time - completely immersed in his songs and his vodka but still put his songs across with all that feeling and on pitch. I'll never forget that performance.
Please listen to Charley Crockett from San Benito Texas. He’s a time traveler and he’s keeping real country music alive. Let me know what you think of Charley. Caught his show 12/5/2022 and it was so good. Check out his tribute to James Hand album “Ten for slim” album. 🎶
Aside from Hank, Lefty is the most influential singer songwriter in country music history. Remember what Merle said folks, Lefty’s impact on music is immeasurable.
one of the two or three or four great singers of all types of music. He's probably my favourite and a great soulful inspiration, he and hank they could write and sing. I always do at least one lefty song at every gig i play. His songs, arrangements and melodies are timeless, his music will always live on.tom
I've loved Lefty for years. His unique voice and style are what really great country music is all about. I am finding more wonderful songs by him here on UA-cam - some I had never heard before . His love songs are pure magic for me. Whether listening to him on the radio or watching him in the videos he just sounds awesome. My favorites are "She Found the Key" and "Yesterday Just Passed My Way Again". I listen to those regularly. He never recorded a song I didn't like. Thanks. - Paula
Lefty was worth his salt no matter the situation. His heartache came out in his music. Lefty may have had a drink, we all try to hide our pain. The man was a fantastic entertainer and his personal life was his own BUSINESS; MIND yours. PINHEAD
This was my late fathers favourite song of all time........I can see why......Lefty is breathtaking......I can't get enough of this video.......Thanks You so so much!
Better? How about both great? I don't understand how one could be better than the other. They're both so different. One nice thing about Lefty is that we got a chance to see his style mature into his 40's. Those albums from the early 70's are really fantastic.
Truly a great song. Supposedly written to his wife while in jail. Telling her his love and promising to be good when he is free. My favorite Lefty song. I sing it often while driving big trucks cross country. :-)
I don't believe there was ever a prettier love song written to a girl than i love you a thousand ways, just something about how simple it is along with that pretty melody, this man knew how to write and sing a pretty song ill tell you that much, his style was something else.
He influenced many great musicians, I remember listening to his wonderful songs growing up because my Dad is a big fan of the old Country and Lefty was a favorite, they broke the mold with musicians like Lefty, he was awesome.
Boy, Lefty is one of the greats who kept the juke boxes going in the past. Everything sounds so good on them and any time one of his songs came on the juke box at our Legion Post everyone either got up and danced to it or sang along with him. I do feel if he had made it into the senior years he would have sounded just as wonderful. An icon for sure. - Paula
Love this kind of Country Music! The new country music can’t hold a candle these old ones, most of the new ones can’t touch your heart like these do.♥️
Had a wonderful dynamism - from a whisper to a powerful reach - he had what maybe Roger Miller captured too - but Lefty's voice was more controlled..from what I have heard. GREAT!!
The greatest two-chord country song of all time. Can you see how Lefty is already fading at this point, not only in his voice, but in the overall sadness of his delivery. It's the tragic essence of country music. There's absolutely no one like him since. He's the end of an era. A genius, no less than Einstein was in mathematics. His impact is immeasurable.
Randy Travis' father loved Lefty Frizzell,Hank Williams and George Jones and he encouraged him and his brother to pursue their musical talents due to these artists. Great taste.
has anyone heard the studio version where Lefty sniffles just before he starts singing? I think it's the original recording. It's the best version and that sniffle exemplifies what so many artists aren't anymore: HUMAN.
Only 18 and loving this stuff respect im 33 and been into it for ten years or so Ray price, George jones, Waylon jennings, Moe bandy, Loretta lynn the list goes on!
Yes, George and Merle both have mentioned many times of his influence on them. Willie Nelson did a whole LP around Lefty's tunes.. To Lefty From Willie. Great Great stuff..! Thanks for posting.
My mother and father were divorced in the fifties but I could visit him in the tavern he owned in El Paso and play lefty Frizzell and hank Williams for free all I wanted. Their voices just hug me to death 🎶
I listen to a lot of different people that sing leftys song i love you a thousand ways and many sound good, but nobody can sing it like he did, just something about how he did it smooth and from his heart and i believe that's exactly how he wrote it and actually all his songs but this one is my favorite.
Whether He was declining here or not, I do not know. But if Lefty was declining here my God strike me with declining now forever! Sounds pretty darn good to me!
He has to be my favorite country singer - all the rest learned from him. The best - greatly under-rated - better than Hank - this sounds relatively modern but is 60 years old.
Ya. Lefty was one of my favorite artists when I went from pop to country in the early 50s. I saw Lefty at Johnny Ryan's Hillbilly Park on South Broadway in St. Louis back around 55. I must add a few others from Lefty's era to the list of what was good country singers - Carl Smith, Faron Young, Web Pierce, Ray Price & Hank Snow,
Paula is right, Lefty was easily---in my opinion, the George Jones or equivalant for his day. He had unusual talent, a style of his own. His songs all told stories you could easily remember. I've got quite a few old 768's still around the house here, enjoy them even now.
Sadly Lefty went out of this world a forgotten man, His life from what I hear, was not to happy the last few years. It's such a shame, He was such a great talent.
@PaulinaRena -your right about his style setting a pattern. George Jones credits his vocal style to Lefty. Lefty was the first to bend and twist notes in this fashion. Hank Williams did it some, but not like this. Lefty is a true legend. I wish they would call the stuff radio plays today something else, because it surely isn't Country Music.
more or less true. Hank was and always will be country music's greatest artist, but lefty must surely be one of it's greatest vocalists - just behind George Jones [who to my mind combines the best of both]
With all the love and respect in the world, even Lefty s brothers David and Allen are not as amazing as big brother Lefty - they are talented and they are good BUT Lefty was and is melt me to my toes AMAZING
sounds like the "Old Violin" song by Johnny Paycheck- what music did for him. I've loved lefty for as long as I can remeber- See Ya' when we all R.I.P. w/angels.
You're right about the first song, but the second is called "I want to be with you always." It's just that he sings two songs in this clip. Both great.
BILL .....your comment is way off my friend , there are very few people can sing like this man could...his voice is warm melted chocolate, appreciate the man cuz there is never gonna be another like him.....
It would be so nice to hear some of this real country music again on the radio, a real differential from anything rock and roll. Seems there is so much gray area anymore in country music, it is tiresome.
I also saw Lefty, backed up by a local band in a small club in 1965 . Very cordial and generous with his time - completely immersed in his songs and his vodka but still put his songs across with all that feeling and on pitch. I'll never forget that performance.
No one can hold a candle to the great Lefty Frizzell! He simply was the greatest C&W singer of all time in my opinion!
one of the greatest singer in the history of music! I would give anything if "country music" today was half of what Lefty was.
Please listen to Charley Crockett from San Benito Texas. He’s a time traveler and he’s keeping real country music alive. Let me know what you think of Charley. Caught his show 12/5/2022 and it was so good. Check out his tribute to James Hand album “Ten for slim” album. 🎶
You're right about that. I would listen to the radio again.
Wouldnt consider myself a country fan but love his voice@@Gratefulman1965
I can not believe that six people have "disliked" this video. Few singers today can even come close to this fellow.
So true.
Aside from Hank,
Lefty is the most influential singer songwriter in country music history. Remember what Merle said folks, Lefty’s impact on music is immeasurable.

Lefty is one of the best country singers of all times. He sings from the heart.
This is truuuue country music--more Lefty please.
Lefty was worth his salt no matter the situation. His heartache came out in his music. Lefty may have had a drink, we all try to hide our pain. The man was a fantastic entertainer and his personal life was his own BUSINESS; MIND yours. PINHEAD

A great Ballad and a great balladeer.
Truly a great song. Supposedly written to his wife while in jail. Telling her his love and promising to be good when he is free. My favorite Lefty song. I sing it often while driving big trucks cross country. :-)
Lady lead foot here, remember to get enough sleep. Keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down. 10-4?

Another great country artist who lived hard and played hard, and like Hank, died way too young.
Boy, Lefty is one of the greats who kept the juke boxes going in the past. Everything sounds so good on them and any time one of his songs came on the juke box at our Legion Post everyone either got up and danced to it or sang along with him. So true.
Lefty will all be remembered for singing ,The Mom and Dad Waltz. A true legend.
"Let him without sin cast the first stone"- A Quote from our Brother !
Had a wonderful dynamism - from a whisper to a powerful reach - he had what maybe Roger Miller captured too - but Lefty's voice was more controlled..from what I have heard. GREAT!!

Great taste.
Seen him @ the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino Ca. with my mom & dad. He is sacred to me. NOBODY like Lefty.
Brings back memories to my late dad who plays his records in the early sixties...
Truly one of a kind.
And nobody since like him
So many artists copied Left's style.
Thank you for allowing us to view this performance.

Heart felt love he does sing to all the beautiful fans out there who are in love.
He’s at the very top of country singers.
Real Country music right outoff the heart...
Great! Makes me remenicing to my childhood when my dad turns the long play records, somewhere in the early sixties.
Oh how I miss that man and his music!
Fabulous. You can hear both Merle & George in him.
He was George and Merle's favorite singer. In my opinion Lefty was a better singer that those two great one's!
A big fan of Lefty`s*****Thank you for posting. Thank you blue65 for sending.
Hard to get better than this.
Beautiful.
This is Gold!

Want to hear, see, and feel real country music? This man was it cause he lived it!
He has to be my favorite country singer - all the rest learned from him. The best - greatly under-rated - better than Hank - this sounds relatively modern but is 60 years old.
Thank you for taking the time to answer the question.I find all of the history of our favs interesting.

Sadly Lefty went out of this world a forgotten man, His life from what I hear, was not to happy the last few years. It's such a shame, He was such a great talent.
The greatest Honky Tonk singer of all!
@PaulinaRena -your right about his style setting a pattern. George Jones credits his vocal style to Lefty. Lefty was the first to bend and twist notes in this fashion. With all the love and respect in the world, even Lefty s brothers David and Allen are not as amazing as big brother Lefty - they are talented and they are good BUT Lefty was and is melt me to my toes AMAZING
unfortunately someone who could sing like that today wouldn't get a chance to show it. That's the sad state of Country Music now.
Lovely sounds ;)

The 4 most influential performers in American music history -

Never see another lefty or the old ones that had to be good.
You're right about the first song, but the second is called "I want to be with you always." It's just that he sings two songs in this clip. Both great.
Fantastic.
He inspired my Brother to keep on doing music. My brother's songs are out there and some on a movie soundtrack,

I like Lefty Frizzell, thanks for putting it on UA-cam.

Lefty, one of my Favo(u)rites!
The next thing since Hank and before George Jones' late fame!
BILL .....your comment is way off my friend , there are very few people can sing like this man could...his voice is warm melted chocolate, appreciate the man cuz there is never gonna be another like him.....
Amen to that!
It would be so nice to hear some of this real country music again on the radio, a real differential from anything rock and roll. Seems there is so much gray area anymore in country music, it is tiresome.
Love this song so much.
He's great
