Lefty was not only one of country music’s greatest, but also it’s most influential vocalist, if not the absolutely most influential! I bought my first 10-in. Lefty album when I was 15 years old and I have every LP he did in my collection! I also have the Bear Family CD collection of all of his recordings. P.S. I’m now 87 years old!
You can hear Merle Haggard listened to a lot of Lefty as did many others . Lot of Bob Wills and Hank Williams in Lefty too. George Jones listened as well .
Had a family member who passed years ago. I still remember him singing and playing this song. Happy to see it posted. He sure did a great job of it. His best imitation of Lefty
This is a great album. Merle Haggard (my number 1) certainly sounds a lot like Lefty Frizzle. Thankds to you tube have something new to play. Thans from Queensland Australia. RIP MERLE LEFTY AND BONNIE❤❤
I heard a lot of stories about time my parents spent with Lefty when I was growing up. Finally getting around to really deeply listening to his music. Love that you posted this!
A story goes that when Merle was 16 or so, and Lefty had a gig in Bakersfield, Lefty loaned Merle his guitar and allowed Merle stage time leaving Lefty totally impressed!!! Thus, the seed for the great Merle Haggard to succeed at Country Music was really planted and the rest is Country Music History!
Man! Thank you so much for posting this!! I was looking on UA-cam for an old cd of mine called The Final Recordings Of Lefty Frizell. Could only find a couple tracks and then you come along to help rewrite my Lefty Frizell history. The tracklist is similar but different! Makes me love it even more. Thanks for this!
Nobody sounds like Lefty Frizzell exactly ..Merle Haggard sounds closer than anyone else..both great..both did a little public service maybe that had something to do with it..
Lefty was the most important and influenceal Country singer(after Bing Crosby of course, who was a big influence on Lefty) Merle's forte was songwriting.
I have a similar collection that ABC Records put out way back in the early 80's....Some of the tracks that are on this album are on that album. Would still love to have this album. One to treasure. Anyone know how I can get my hands on a copy of this particular album??
You have it backwards,Lefty was first, and the Hags idol.Hag had a great deal of the Frizzell sound because he loved him so much.Lefty gave Merle Haggard one of his first starts. He told a club owner he wouldnt go on unless he let Merle,an unknown young singer go on ,he let Merle use his own guitar i believe.Merle and a friend of Hags got back stage, and He sang a couple of songs for Lefty.Lefty heard how great that Merle was.So against the club owners wishes,Lefty told the guy he wouldnt go on,if the club owner didnt let Merle go on First. True Story,as told to me by Merle himself, and of course Lefty had told the same thing to me.
I think merle's voice is much more gravely and forgone. To me, randy travis sounds like lefty Lefty was the original along with Hank. My opinion. I am 85 and listened to hank and Lefty as a child

Lefty put it together with subtle grace, not excessive volume that pounds and vibrates the walls and the windows ❤😊❤❤😊
Every country singer would love to sound like Lefty.

Merle refers to Lefty in his songs
Their voices are sooo smooth

Merle Haggard was his son.
Yes, lefty fathered him when he was 9 years old..........
spiritually
he sounds like merle haggard in this

I can hear Willie Nelson similarities in some of his songs, many learned from Lefty
This was after he wasnt young but merle based himself on lefty
Son, it's the other way around.
HA!!!
Olive, Jim Reeves wasn't too bad either
I think merle's voice is much more gravely and forgone. To me, randy travis sounds like lefty
