- The bullbar on our 80 Series Landcruiser takes a beating when we're out on the road. We decided to RAPTOR Coat it to help protect it for the long term and to make it look mint!

Great job
Just about to do my bar too with Raptor Coat. Can send you a picture if ya like.
That's a pretty awesome looking bar how thick is the base plate where the winch mounts it looks pretty thick?
It's not bad eh! I reckon it suits the 80 pretty well. Very, very thick - from memory is 11mm thick. Not sure why whoever built it did that, but I guess it's strong 😂
@@OverlandNZTV it certainly looks tough on the 80 mate! I'm looking at building a bar like that for my 80 might have to try and copy it a bit haha. How many bolts hold it on? it looks to be around 10 bolts
Oh nice! It's pretty simple - similar to the XROX one as far as I know. It has 6 bolts on the bottom (3 per chassis rail) and 4 per side (from memory, can have a better look tonight) - all M12 bolts, I'm assuming the holes were already in the chassis. Hope that helps!
Cheers mate it helps alot I cant wait to get my 80 up to spec lol
What did you use as a base coat
Used the Raptor etch primer 👍
how many coats did you do? just 1?
Did two on the exposed bits and one on the inside of the bar 👍 Could probably have gotten away with one but once the cans are started you need to use the lot. Cheers
@@OverlandNZTV yeah so might as well hey hahaha
What was the piece on the angle grinder to bring it back to bare metal?
Wire brush attachment - really handy for tidying up metal 👍
@@OverlandNZTV Awesome I didn't know they existed for angle grinders. Bought one today and it's way better than the drill attachment (spins at 3x the RPM). Makes it very quick and I completed one rock slider really fast.
Can you use any primer?
Sure can - any etch primer will do the trick
How many cans of primer and paint did you use?
Use a can and a half of primer, did two coats - then all four cans of RAPTOR to do the bar - it was just enough, a fifth can wouldn't have hurt though. 6 months on it still looks awesome and has help up real well
@@OverlandNZTV primer is $40 a can and raptor is $93 a can been thinking off raptoring my alloy bullbar but for $400-500 i think ill just cheap spray can it every few months only payed $50 for winch bar and $100 for sliders and brush bar that $500 i dont spend on raptor i could buy a 2nd hand fridge, roof cage, awning and something else i could need ive been thinking about raptor coating the whole car with a kit seems like $500 to do the whole car would be a good deal but not that much just to freshen up a bullbar
The cans aren’t great value for money when doing a big job - won’t deny that. They were supplied to me by the RAPTOR team - if I were doing it again, I would just buy the standard kit and spray the bar work and anything else that way, works out far cheaper
@@OverlandNZTV if raptor would supply me id do front n rear bars side steps brush bars and a whole body spray lol but im not that lucky n dont have a youtube channel i just 4wd when i can afford some free time but such is life
Nice! Nek minute the Hilux is black...
😂I considered doing the whole Cruiser - but decided to start small! Maybe the Hilux will be done one day... It still looks good for now though (minus the dents)
How is the Raptor coating holding up now?
I sold the 80 Series ~2 years ago, so not 100% sure. I still see it around though and from afar, the front bar still looks good. Only downside I found is it seemed to hold dirt - could never get it looking 100% black after a month or so
@@OverlandNZTV very good point on the dirt...it was my concern with a coarse material. Thanks for coming back to me and look forward to catching up off road.
