- These are the best downshifts that I captured in Istanbul Park 2021 Turkish GP. Alpha Tauri AT02 sounded incredibly good with RA621H Honda engine especially when downshifting. It reminded me sound of the 2011 blown diffuser cars.
That's exactly how my old 98' Civic 5 speed sounded when I accidentally downshifted into reverse.
ahh the good old days. blew up a 92 integra gs by downshifting into 3rd from 4th instead of upshifting into 5th at 7200 rpm. the tach said NO

Yes yes yes, those Honda engines were horribly slow in 2015 and a lot better in 2016, but still a bit off of Renault. But both of those years they sounded incredible, they had the best V6 turbo sound of any year by far

I was there at the Abu Dhabi '21 Grand Prix and despite being a Ferrari fan, this was easily the best sounding car on the grid.
must have sounded especially good as Max threw one down the inside of Lewis on the last lap😉

I'm a bit of a Honda fan, still have my first car ( a 97 Civic 3 Door Hatch manual in red in mint unmolested condition) tucked up in my parents garage. I've had it about 22 years and it still runs perfectly. But despite the bias that comes with that car being my first automotive love that I could actually afford, run and own, out of all of the current F1 engines, the Honda is the only one that sounds decent, especially off throttle. Takes me back to the blown diffuser days (although that was a far more brutal sound). Man, I wish we will go back to naturally aspirated v8/v10s on carbon neutral fuel soon for a motorsport enthusiasts best compromise.

Question for you both: is Formula One driving today too complicated with twenty and more buttons on the wheel, are you too much under effort, under pressure? What are your wishes for the future concerning the technical programme during the race? Less buttons, more? Or less and more communication with your engineers?

@@justlucaas23 No, the tech all has it’s place. It’s a beautiful dance of machinery and electronics, made to push human engineering to the absolute limit, and that is what makes it spectacular, and that is why people innovate, if it was better without it, they would’ve not evolved.

Some people disliking the Honda sound, that's fine. But in F1, Honda is the only engine that has a mean motorsport sound. Unlike every other engine in F1 that still sounds like a chiptuned vacuumcleaner. Everyone their own taste, but I understand if they say they hate all the sounds in current F1 but will not understand when they say they prefer a Merc or Ferrari engine over the Honda in F1, that makes no sense if you love engine sounds.

So many F1 videos promise "loud" and "brutal". So precious few actually are.
I was at the Austrian GP last year and its so cool to hear the different engine sounds. The Honda engines definitely had the most agressive engine pops. I guess they used engine braking the most to.
Last weekend I was at the Barcelona gp and the engine pops where a bit less I believe compared to last year.
The Ferarri engines somehow produced a lot of sound when accelarating over the kerbs

I also attended Turkish GP and yes AT downshift sound was brutal, but Ferrari's sound was the best!

I went to the Jeddah gp at a braking zone and the braking noises were exhilirating!

As far as i know, it’s a system Honda invented which keeps the Revs high even when not accelerating, in order to keep the Turbo spooling. That prevents the Turbo lag

@@juaneer if you can read, you see that i wrote that Honda invented a System that let’s the turbo spool at a certain rpm in order to “don’t” have a turbo lag (turbo hole) when they hit the accelerator. Plus anti lag, and a turbo which is laggy is not the same thing. Their system sort of accelerates when the pilot doesn’t accelerate, just enough to prevent the Turbo Rpm from dropping. Because Turbos rev too… next time before your inner demon starts to type just anything because you think you have to, wait a minute read carefully and then think again 😂

Everyone that says "brutal downshifts" with this engine probably never heard a downshift during V10s era, or during v8s with blown diffusers era.

That's primitive anti lag, Honda has been using it since 2014 in F1, whereas Mercedes and Renault would make use of the MGU-H.
No lol. 1. Honda didn’t enter in the Hybrid era until 2015 and 2. The sound is a product of aggressive cylinder deactivation. Off throttle the PU reduces to 3 cylinders.

Though your saying that Honda off throttle induces anti-lag with 3 cylinders or spins the MGU-H with half the available power? That sounds highly inefficient because both rely on mechanical engine power to keep the turbo spooled.
@@cordaveast FYI to anyone who does not understand how antilag works .. retard timing to the point of engine backfire .. use violent backfire to keep turbo spooled. That's the popping sound you hear from the Honda engine. Not cylinder deactivation. It's impossible for any combustion to happen when there is no fuel being provided. Aka cylinder deactivation.

Compared to engine sounds of F1 past formulas, go to GP’s in the 70’s, 80’, 90’, 00’s,10’s and a practice day pre-covid, to me the modern V6 hy sound so shite.
