The power of Peter Cushing's performance I think. He absolutely set the bar in what to expect from Imperial officers. He's the perfect ruthless other hand of the empire alongside Vader

But when you take it to the level of what the empire does on a daily basis, which is just commit genocide and indiscriminate brutality is against billions of people. You wind up, creating a bunch of people who have either lost so much or have so much to lose that not opposing you is the stupid decision in that equation.
The fact he called Vader "My friend" says a lot about the relationship they had...I remember hearing somewhere that he suspected Vader was the late Anakin Skywalker.
Tarkin earned more of my respect after reading the book. I respected him, but knowing his backstory made me really give him the credit for being a truly ruthless man.
The methods he used were certainly morally Ambiguous to say the least. And yet one does have to respect his and his family's history, traditions, and the simple fact their methods produced extrodinary individuals.

Kinda understandable why Tarkin disliked the Jedi so much. Imagine spending your entire life as a military man and excelling at it but then some Police officers were put in charge of you as your General. I'd be pissed too especially when said Police officers would give orders that are more inclined for Police protocols than a military one.
I’d say it’s more like if warrior monks or janissaries had sway over regular army officers and units. Imagine a monk apprentice, somebody around 14-15 years old with no life experience being given any sort of position of authority again over professionally trained and experienced officers whether clone or regulars; possibly over you. Then you can understand Tarkin’s chagrin towards Ahsoka on Lola Seyu.

The "Tarkin" book is one of the few AWESOME stuff the New Canon has given to us. There's no doubt James Luceno wrote that book when the Legends continuity still existed
@@darkwolf4434 Luceno sure had to rewrite Tarkin's origin in order to be more fitting to the New Canon. But you can't deny that book was at first considered for the previous continuity as it is full of references to the Darth Plagueis novel, the Darth Bane Trilogy and other material.

I know that every youtuber and their brother has covered him, but I'd love to hear your interpretation of Dessel/Darth Bane's story. He's recently become one of my absolute favorite Sith Lords, his trilogy is God tier.
From learning about the history of his home planet and it's technological advances in large weapons and starships I can see why Moff Tarkin was so fixated on the development of Project Stardust the DS1 Orbital Battle Station the Death Star and the massive Imperial 1 and 2 Star Destroyers and the super massive Super Star Destroyer the Executor that were created under the doctrine bearing his name.
Can you do canon of Palpatine so far?? I love your obscure character videos more usually but I think you do the absolute best job of describing things, even movie scenes you explain motives better than the films

Tarkin had to get a phenomenal backstory to show how he became so imposing. I mean, he's the only person we see other than the Emperor who openly stands up to Vader without any fear of consequences.

I've watched all the movies, seen all the animated series, and even read Tarkin's book... and I have just never been much of a fan. I've always seen him as a diet version of Thrawn. This however is probably the most enjoyable delivery of the character as a whole. About to jump on Part 2 of this.
Tarkin is such an interesting and frankly underrated man, yet he’s the namesake for the Tarkin Doctrine that guided the Galactic Empire’s military. And much like his doctrine Tarkin is an incredibly cold, calculating, and Darwinistic man.
They really arent Thrawn believed in a flexible military, he would have preferred more star destroyers or better TIE fighters. Tarkin while I could understand his Ideology it is however fundamentally flawed, people while could be considered animals are not ruled by instinct while animals do, this is where he fails, he thought by having the death star everyone would submit but it was the building of the death star that would be the empire undoing by plunging the galaxy into poverty making everyone think negatively of the empire and see them as tyrants.

Rising through the ranks dealing with rivals and making superior officers look like fools. I will admit how they did it was vastly different and I'd rather be under Thrawn's command any day of the week. However there is something nice about watching people beating the odds.

We need a Star wars movie where Tarkin is some sort of the main character and it's taken place during the time Tarkin would speak to Palpatine and argue he doesn't Trust Vader because he is a Jedi/ force wielder. This is where Palpatine would admit he is Anakin and then decide to give him a chance. This could be a great story.

there are a bunch of good canon ones now. My favorite is Dark Disciple, but all the Thrawn books, Catalyst and Lords of the Sith just a few.
