Gary Oldman did a great job. Belo has the old school 1930s I vant to suck your blud vampire accent. Garyoldman has that 1990s Eastern European grandpapa vibe. Both iconic.
Bela Lugosi is the definitive Dracula. There maybe hundreds more adaptations of Dracula in the future...but i gurantee when someone says the name Dracula, the first actor y'all think of is B.L .. he is iconic.
In the mid 1950's I first saw this film & other horror classics on Saturday night TV late movies. Almost 55 years later I still think the "children of the night" line is one of the absolute greatest lines in film history.
I 1st saw the film in the mid 1950s when I was a kid. It was scary... & fascinating. As a kid, Halloween was my favorite holiday because it was the 1 night of the year where we could roam far & wide...as the children of the night
"As I ooked towards the window I saw the first dim streak of the coming dawn There seemed a strange stillness over everything; but as I listened I heard as if from down below in the valley the howling of many wolves. The Count's eyes gleamed, and he said 'Listen to them-the children of the night. What music they make!' Seeing, I suppose, some expression in my face strange to him, he added:- 'Ah, sir, you dwellers in the city cannot enter into the feelings of the hunter'."
+Thenextworldwar I'm sorry, Count Dracula, I obviously have the wrong castle. Tell you what. I'll come back.....in the daytime.....with a Kukri knife. You stay here.
MY emotional favorite as count Deacula, the prince of darkness .Portrayed honestly, humanely and convincingly by the grand master, may he rest in peace, the one & only Bela Lugosi
Vampires back then: poet, philosopher, shakespearian monster, gentleman, living legend, the night incarnate, class and dapper, epitome of fear and nightmare brought to life. Vampires today: sparkles and misplaced hormones
It wasn't bad. It's a completely different take on the character, trying to make Dracula appear more human than previous incarnations. But it's a far cry from Bela Lugosi's performance imo.
Nosferatu. Vampier. An immortal with a mortal's passion. "Listen to them, the children of the night. What sweet music they make." Vlad...Vlad...Vlad...
Whenever I hear coyotes howling near my house, this is what pops up in my head. A timeless masterpiece that paved the way for the horror genre of today! R.I.P. Bela Lugosi!
I used to enjoy watching a local band in Delaware County Pennsylvania called The Children of the Night. They played at a place called Mattero's T Bar. I was told they were school teachers during the day. Many years later, when I saw this movie, I realized for the first time why they chose that name.
The sad part is, he was not considered for many roles after this because of his accent....it proves Hollywood didn't and still doesn't know much about who is truly talented
@SteveJ2008 Actually, Ygor was Lugosi's favorite character to play! What's ironic is, Ygor's brain was transplanted into Cheney's Frankenstein. Then Lugosi played the Frank monster in the next film!
The American Film Institute ranks Dracula's quote about wolves #83 on their list of the greatest film quotes. It should be in the top 10. "Children of the night, what music they make" is one of the most poetic verses I've ever heard, whether in film or in print. Don't you agree?
I think most people are aware that this is a direct quote from the book but, just to give credit where credit is due: '“Listen to them-the children of the night. What music they make!” Chapter II, Jonathan Harker’s Journal from ‘Dracula’ (1897) by Bram Stoker.
@@OldFartFilms Yep. Elsewhere at this video is another comment by me: "Listen to them. Children of the night. What music they make." Dracula....nature lover. Bram Stoker's poetic prose, so beautifully expressed by Bela Lugosi, is also wonderful for people like me to use about our love for bats, flying free in the Texas night. Texas, home of the most populous bat cave on Planet Earth. And a gargantuan number of other bat caves in the Lone Star State.
I went to an abandoned building once that used to be like an old youth center I think. This was written in Sharpie on one of the doors. Inside the room was loads of tickets to some music event at some school spilled out from a shopping trolley. When we got out we smoked a zoot and headed the fuck home lol

@ScorpiiBuscemi1822 - are there any other lugosi films that you like, apart from dracula? i saw one called night monster from the 40s. lugosi was limited to a supporting role as he tended to be by then but it was quite watchable.

A classic line delivered by the classic Dracula with perfection by the classic Bela Lugosi. Total perfection.

Bela Lugosi is Dracula for all time. Great actor, watch the 1934 "Black Cat". Superb.

Such a great classic movie. I saw it two times this halloween season already. Dwight Frye is so under rated as an actor. I love this movie

'Go and tell the children of the night to make vonderful music somevhere else, Vill you? I have a

I like the part in the book when he tells Jonathan he is free to leave anytime then opens the door and all the wolves are outside.
May dreams be brought that I might reach...
The gentle strains of midnight speech
And frozen stars that gild the forest floor
Through the swirling snow
Volkh's children come
To run with me, to hunt as one
To snatch the lambs of Christ
From where they fall...
What music they make!! Classy creepy
They don't make monsters the ways they used to,even they had class back then ,not like it is today
What a man!
