Hey Pat, been watching your content for about a year or two and you’ve been a great instructor and mentor of sorts to me and just wanted to let you know I’m thankful, saw your 10 videos on visual patterns which have helped me more than anything else on UA-cam and your videos on pursuing your passions are inspiring. I’ve come a long way with my photography but I’m currently struggling with being extremely shy and getting a lot of social anxiety when shooting, it’s almost impossible to pull out my camera in public sometimes even if I’m just photographing my friends, I’ve also got a fear of failure where I prefer not to take my chances on an opportunity to take a great picture because I fear not being satisfied with the results so I refrain from taking them and end up barely ever using my camera on the daily. I’m working on all of that and you’ve been great help, I appreciate your content and will always be here watching 🙌🏽
Thank you for watching! With just a little bit more practice and more exposure to those uncomfortable situations, I'm sure you'll overcome your fear in no time! Everytime you step up to the plate to face your fear, it gets smaller and smaller every time. Keep it up!

Hi Pat! Are you able to create a video about typography and the relationship it has with images? I love your style and know you have a lot of knowledge regarding this!
Similar to the point about too much clarity, I think I'm reaching a point where I can't stand the obsession with sharpness. Everyone loves a sharp lens, of course. But when a photographer's entire portfolio looks like it was focus-stacked with the sharpness sliders cranked to the max in Lightroom, it comes off as way too sterile and frankly uncreative.
I was guilty of true clarity thing for a while, pushing it up and pushing the de-haze down in order to get more information out of the raw file. I would look at the histogram and play with those sliders until every part of the histogram was shooting up on a high but consistent level (whist protecting my highlights I must point out). I also had to push around lots of other sliders to get what I wanted but focused far too much on the histogram instead of the image in front of me. It was an experimental process and I did get some okay images out of it, mostly architectural stuff. However I’ve since found that there are better ways to edit and better ways to find my own style (and you’re right Pat, it ruins portraits!). Fortunately, the other mistakes you talk about have been left behind for some time so I think I can say I’m not a beginner anymore! Thanks for making these very informative videos by the way. Some tips on black and white editing would be great, maybe you’ve already done that, if not I’m sure many out there would love it too. Thanks for your time, love watching this stuff.
Amazing video ! in general I'm the most interested in on how to regroup colors in complementary tints to give a specific vibe to my image, could you please make more videos about that ? I wish to get not only beautiful pics but an aesthetic with a distinctive look.
I mostly agree with the saturation point, but a counterpoint I would offer is someone like Alex Webb whose colours are very saturated and his photos are incredible.
When it becomes a style over *an entire body of work* , that becomes a completely different thing altogether. When you're in your first few years and you don't understand *why* you gravitate towards that, it's still unintentional and thus a mistake.
The pro mist fad is out of control. I haven't seen a clean line on my feed in months. It looks like they all went to KFC and put fingerprints all over the lens. And it looks way worse than if they just spent $50 on an old Olympus OM or Canon FD lens. Also, another one I see a lot along with over stylization, is forcing stylization when the context isn't there. Not everything needs to be moody, you emo fun sponges. It's fine to let the sky be blue sometimes instead of grey teal. This and not understanding white balance, or the context for a stylised white balance bother me the most. 😂 /rant

But I think it’s worth taking the course unless it only teaches how to use Lightroom. I don’t have eyes that can tell what is good or bad edited images yet. Do you cover these kinds of stuff in the course?
It teaches how to use Lightroom and then finishes off with several hours of real-time examples from me, so perhaps that can be of some use? If you already know the program though you may not get the full value out of the Masterclass however.
Hey, great video but I have some feedback as a beginner that you as a professional might think is unnecessary. Sometimes you are explaining how things will look with certain settings but then I have to pop open google to look for what you mean, so to me the videos could sometimes benefit from a bit more examples.
It would dope to see a video on calibrating your monitor for photography
