- As you probably know I fish here often, tossing big smelly baits for the giant catfish that patrol these waters. This is the first time I've tried fishing here casting a lure. The time of the year I was fishing is the fall walleye run, that is what I was targeting. I did manage to get my target species but not before hooking into a few surprise monsters. You CAN"T fish the might Red River and NOT catch a few river monsters!
I caught the sauger/walleye hybrid saugeye, as well as the big cat using a #northlandtackle #whistlerjig and 2.5" #berkley #gulp minnow. This place surely is special. If you get a chance to fish #Manitoba and enjoy #bankfishing be sure to give the #redriver @ #lockport a try! You shall not be disappointed! Cheers and tight lines!
Cool fishing! Can you give advice on where to go fishing from the shore. Predatory fish. Winnipeg.
Only spot I know for predatory fish around Winnipeg is right here in the Red River for walleye in the fall. I don't live here so I don't know all the spots, a local person would have more info on that. Good luck fishing!
Thanks for visiting our great fishery!!!
Whistler jigs are the best and under-rated. Its what I use exclusively.
I love Lockport fishing!!! Great place.
Lockport is so amazing, I like to hit it a couple times every year at least! Much more variety than we have here in NW Ontario. My wife is from Manitoba so I do fish there often and love it! Cheers
Nothing better than a day at Lockport!
So many fish there, and different species. That is what I love!
Man I would love to fish Manitoba. Great fishery. Especially the winter lake trout bite! Safe travels back to Ontario.
I am back here. Yeah its great. Had two solid days of fishing this past weekend in Manitoba. First day I fished same place as here but opposite shore. Caught maybe 4 dozen saugers. Second day I hooked up with a fellow youtuber and we went out in his boat further downstream. Caught some nice greenback walleye, few monster bullhead and again a ton of saugers. Great spot!
Def a saugeye due the white patch on the tail. Only walleye and saugeye have that
Yup, another telltale sign is the spots on the dorsal fin are more irregular shapes and sizes on the hybrid. Pure saugers have more uniform spots.
Great video buddy! I love shore fishing
Thanks man, most days I prefer shore fishing especially a place like Lockport!
Nice fishing Man keep it up!!!
Saw your channel from Mark’s video of you guys fishin for walleyes! Good stuff bud, subscribed :)
Hey thanks, I got you back 😉 I'll be uploading my version of that at trip tomorrow, scheduled for 4pm. Right now I am heading out to the Bush for a walk with the gun looking for birds. Cheers!
@@differentfins Nice! gotta love those armed bush walks. I went on one a few days ago and got some good bush chickens too. good luck!
@@OutdoorsAnonymous it was a good evening. 5 birds with the .17
I'll take a big channel cat over a walleye any day! Not as nice on the dinner plate but they sure are fun.
Oh man if you like big cats you gotta fish Lockport. Manitoba someday, I've had 25 plus cat days there and they were all 15-30 pounds.
Saugeye 💯😁
That cat was a beast! 💪 Nice saugeye. Not bad for a quick trip.
Oh man you should see the channel cats here. They average about 15 pounds. I've caught one here over 36" literally every time I've fished for cats in the Red River. This cat I caught on the jig was slightly over average but if you chunk stinky baits you'll get a dozen like this in a day.
is this on the north or south side of the locks?
North/downstream side. Also on the east bank of the river ;)
@@differentfins north or south side of the floodway
@@HansRiveraCreations I am right at the locks, floodway is about 500m downstream
@@differentfins thanks
I thought it is zander
Our walleye and sauger are same family as European Zander 😉. Scientific family name is Sander.
