He's never appeared in an MV before - it's just another example of "whatever IU wants, IU gets".
The song is about saying good bye to her 20s since she's about 29 in Korean age and her 5th album Lilac (Lilac is also the name of the title track) will be the last album in her 20s. The where are you going sign has all the title track songs she made in her 20s. Including Lilac which you can see at the very bottom of the station board and on her train ticket. Also Lilac is her fav flower. It's associated with spring and it blooms in May (i think). It is also her birth montg and the color is more like her outfit when she had the blue contacts on.
