- Winter HERRING Sabiki BRIDGE FISHING in Jamaica Bay NEW YORK CITY, NY. Went up on the bridge looking for some herring. Did not know what was going on but decided to bring a couple of rods just in case. Untangled an old sabiki while I waited on the herring. Late afternoon sun dropping and not a herring to be found. As soon as the sun dropped pulled a few herring out enough for a fried herring sandwich. Dropped another on the high trip up the bridge. Sun set in the dark and the bite was off. Called it a night and satisfied with an easy dinner. That is really a good video . I used to to fishing in pay park in nassau county. That is a good spot too. ( Except back home without any 🐠)

Jerry got your samich, great. Love the old Mitchell. Still have my old 300 which was paired with a Herter's rod which a friend of the family made for me from one of their kits, still have it also. That was a long time ago in the 1,000 Islands, St. Lawrence River.
Hi John thanks well worth's the cold for a little! I think I have a old herters fly rod some where that sounds like a awesome combo. Had that rod a bit about 20 years I think originally was a walleye set up but found it worked well over loaded and a nice touch on the herrings so been using that for them the past decade or so. Love using what I got mix and match and making it work. Have a awesome holiday season to you and family john!

Thanks much! That is plastic diamond plate cut in strips. you can use about anything I have used cans pans and wrappers and all seems to work

Yes brooklyn been holding fish at its regular areas as well, some tighter some loose. I have not tried SI

Hi Jerry, That looks pretty cold outside but I'm glad you caught some fish. I cut my sabiki rigs in half and made two shorter rigs with three hooks on each. I was getting too many tangles . I haven't herring fished this year. Hopefully we get a few nice days. Take care and good luck, Mickey
It got pretty chilly Mickey you can tell when the gloves come out wind picked up to. 3 drops is plenty I think great idea to split them up will be keeping in mind. When they are thick they are thick! Thanks as always Mickey!

Do herring normally bite in the dark?
I tried going last year for them the first time no luck.
If they are thick they will! I think they go after the glow beads at night more then the actually sabiki. More then once I was getting em in the day with a sabiki with no beads and night fall the bite would stop. More then once I have swapped the sabiki to one with the glow beads and the bite started up again. but if they are thick you'll get em every which way! They do move, come and go through the season. Some areas will hold them longer then others. Good question Wr!

Those herring must be high in fat to withstand cold water. Just by observation I get the chills.
Hi Fernando, yea they are pretty nutritious with a high oil content and full of fish! Cold one but sunny out got lucky with that!
