  • We've finally entered the world of autofocus anamorphic lenses, on a budget. But are they even good?
    I've gotten some time to play with the Blazar Apex 1.33x AF Anamorphic, and I have to say, I am impressed. This lens fills a niche of content creating, weddings, run n gunners, and more. Is it a replacement for any "proper" cinema lenses? No. Is it something I can use often on my channel? Certainly.

    Its as everything thats APSC: its cheaper and lighter than FullFrame, but its entry level and has its limits. I am waiting for x1.5 FullFrame AF for my FX3

    I think this is quite solid. After a few tweaks, I think this is going to be a great entry lens. Especially for solo users. Thanks Brady for the bts!

    Great video! This is my first time considering an anamorphic lens, do you think it's usable if my main camera is an a7rv (full frame)? Could you use it for vertical orientation video as well or just horizontal? Also would this be usable for still photography shooting? I'm not sure if the photos would come out really squeezed and bad looking...

    finally autofocus on an anamorphic! ngl the vignetting is a bit distracting even after knowing its cropped on a full frame sensor -- the bgm shouts cammackey to me lol

    What do you mean by "camera doesn't know what they picking up"? This could be true to locking focus on faces, but anything else is just some shapes to a camera software. With camera autofocus you can track any object like lamp of a car, building corner or watermellon on the grass. Camera inner software does not care if you put on sensor "real" or "squeezed" shapes.

    • @Horizons_Roses
      @Horizons_Roses 13 днів тому +2

      Think of it as a workflow.
      Image is captured and stretched by the lens then projected to the sensor. The sensor is interpreted by the AF algorithm who first is seeing a stretched image, recognise faces and objects and adjust focus back and forth then the processor destretch the image to the monitor for you to see.
      With a stretch of 1.5 or 2x. Algorighm wouldn't recognise the faces as they would appear too distorted. The Autofocus Algorith needs to be trained to recognise faces and object that are distorted or to desqueeze and then focus track.

    • @ZvilgantisKailis
      @ZvilgantisKailis 13 днів тому +1

      @@Horizons_Roses Try to shoot party balloons. What will you get? Vertically oval shapes. Can auto-focus track selected balloon? Yes. Nor sensor neither AF algorithms doesn't care. IMHO the only thing that matters is sharpness / contrast of the tracking object to prevent lens from hunting.
      Try a test - put video of people on TV and stretch vertically. The try with camera AF the faces.

      @ no it’s not the same thing those are 2X and FF, how are they the same ??? The price are almost the same for both sets. But you get the 2X and ff. you get the Lidar and yeah it’s a bit more expensive, but it will work way better.

    • @1-UP
      @1-UP 12 днів тому

      @@35mmdigitalcinema you're absolutely right that they are different things, my bad. The Apex line of lenses is for those with APSC cameras, while the Cato line is for those with Full Frame cameras. So, Apex vs Cato with lidar are both for different audiences and budgets. Also, the Cato is 2x squeeze, while the Apex is 1.33x. These are two entirely different lens sets for entirely different people, so I'm just wondering why you are suggesting it over the Apex?

    • @35mmdigitalcinema
      @35mmdigitalcinema 12 днів тому +1

    • @1-UP
      @1-UP 12 днів тому

      @@35mmdigitalcinema that's a very good point!! I love the look of the Catos also! Your original point was that Cato + lidar was a "better deal" when it's in a different budget range, and for a completely different thing. 1.33x anamorphic and 2x are for entirely different purposes and audiences.
